lol magic mouse
what's wrong with my Magic Mouse? :(
Been waiting for someone to do Production like this AND with budget gear?!? Way more about the process than the gear and I love that. Between you and Nathan Larsen, yall are my top two favs
My weapons of choice at the moment are: HP Pavillion Gaming (16GB RAM, AMD R5) - Do NOT buy this. The spec itself is very good and the performance is great but Ryzens heat up a lot and my Motherboard fried AND the DC in also got F'd up with the heat+bad case design. If you're browsing for a Laptop, just get a high end, SQUARE CASE (no "gaming case design") with an Intel chip and at least 16Gb of RAM. (you can do with 8 but you're gonna notice and want to upgrade in the future). Lewitt 240Pro - Inexpensive mic with Incredible sound, I love it, been putting it through the Test with Rap, Pop and R&B songs and it sounds very good! I had a cheap (and I mean CHEAP) Behringer C4 and it sounded like crap, I had to upgrade and I landed on the Lewitt and lucked out more than I could ever expect. Komplete Audio 6 - Let me tell you this, people don't talk about this interface too much, I don't see RUclipsrs raving about it but it is a 200$ interface with 6 I/O and a bundle of Plugins that Rival the competition. For a beginner, having so much good stuff and many options for that price, I don't think even the Scarletts are close (I haven't tested the Last one, though). Presonus Eris 5 for Monitors, I do not Regret purchasing these babies. Fairly priced, great sound, Ive put them in all kinds of Rooms and they sound great and are very Inexpensive. 5' Woofers also mean a larger range so you can upgrade your room and still have a decent pair of Monitors to chuck into it without feeling the need to upgrade. I also have a Nektar Impact 61LX+ and though it is a great and reliable Midi controller with a ton of Bells and Whistles, I think you'd rather be better off with a Midi controller that has Midi Out So, grab something with Piano style keys (instead of Synth style Keys), so you can kill two birds with one Stone (learn/play some piano and play your production MIDI stuff in your DAW) and make sure that it also has MIDI Out so if in the future you grab an Analog Synth, you can work with both your MIDI Keyboard and your Synth. For Headphones Im rocking a cheap pair of Senheiser HD220s that Ive owned for years, I'm on my 3rd pair, they're Plastic-y and sound like shit but I've gotten so used to them that I'm affraid to upgrade, to be honest 😂 I'm buying the DT990 Pro, but I fear its not gonna be an easy Switch 😂 For DAW, there's really one choice for any Beginner on Windows and it is FL Studio and if you say otherwise, you haven't been paying attention so let me break it down for you: LIFETIME FREE UPDATES - Buy once, upgrade forever, never pay again. (Make sure you buy the propper version, but you might wanna upgrade later, on sales, like I did, Still one of my best investments). Included Autotune, Pitch and Time Correction and clean up tools Gross Beat A bunch of great stock plugins including Emulations of Hardware Synths. Great, and I mean Great selection of Effect Plugins. Best piano Roll in town. Chord generation tools (like Scaler) and Scale Helpers, etc. Stem Splitting. AI Mastering. Integrated cloud sample library (like Splice but for FL). Easiest interface Ive ever seen, with multiple ways to do the same thing, making it extremely intuitive. And much more... This is, FOR SURE, 100% the DAW for a beginner. You'll have EVERYTHING you could ask for. Downsides: Recording on it is STILL a bit iffy (you can do It, I do It exclusively on FL and got used to it, it has gotten better, but it is still a bit iffy, I admit). They lack real Guitar Amp/FX options with a decent Plugin to just open, slide through some presets and Jam on your Guitar. Other than this, I think it lacks nothing.
Seeing the untameable happiness and your face lighting up like a child when you stumble onto a gold nugget of an idea... man that's what makes creating music such a joy 😭❤ So glad I wandered across this video and onto on your channel. Keep rocking man, can't wait for new stuff... you've got a new supporter 🙌🏻
That's so kind of you to mention, thank you!
beautiful song bro... regards from India
what camera and lights do you use? looks great!!
Thanks! I'm using my iPhone 15 as my main camera. For my lighting I have the Newer NL288.
*i love reaper. reaper is the best daw)*
Reaper was waaaay overpowered for being a free DAW. It was incredible when I used it
@@TrevBarnes yes. reaper can do anything u can imagine. except makin money((
I mixed almost all my videos using Garangeband and PreSonus 3.5 monitors 🤘
Technically you have the seeds, but killer track regardless.
Fantastic!
for windows user I prefer use Waveform or Lmms at your start
Great video, love your videos. Keep going ;)
The AT2020 rocks
Thank you!
Ive been messing around with producing my own demos for a couple of years, and oddly enough just last week I got the idea to record a couple Tom Petty songs. It almost instantly helped me with production. It also helped me with song writing ideas. It's sort of a challenge when I just have a scratch guitar demo to feel out a whole band. But recording a song I'm already familiar with helped me see how parts mesh together better. it's the most fun I've had recording in years.
Sounds like rehash, but I like it
The roli lumi keys is $99 right now if you have a student email
If you tapped my brain, this is the kind of thing that would come out. I hear Weezer and Nada Surf and Beck. What I’m saying is I hate you for being so talented and making it all look so easy. 😅
I hate you too ❤️ (kidding of course lol)
that LUT is a little weird.
subbed, glad that i found u. and thank u
Please don’t tell me you’re gonna release that song with that many sampled virtual instruments😨 it feels like a matter of integrity to me to release something I’ve actually recorded but that’s probably what separates producers from artists most of the time
to each is their own. if you don’t prefer it, that’s fine. don’t question others creative integrity though, that’s not as cool as you think it is. people create for different reasons other than your own, try to have some perspective. if you don’t like it, just skip
That was such a long ad read
I knowwww
I have everything, expect an audio interface.... which is frustrating and I want to record without one
Garage band has been my go to tool to actualize my music, moving on to Logic soon. Great rec!
"Not much work gettin' done when you horizontal" - Trev Barnes, 2024. Me: *buys chair immediately"
A video from Trev is always a good thing! Appreciate your passion and the way you share it.
now all I gotta do is make money to buy these things 😆
Awesome stuff and some really great talent. You got it all, Trev! :)
Great video!
*Why do wives always think that you have too many things, although they themselves have a lot of junk that they have nowhere to put? why do they think that men don’t need anything in this life except women?*
Great video Trev! Thanks for sharing your setup. I also use the AT-2020 and love it. I started on Cakewalk on a home built PC way back in the 90s. So glad we have Macs, Logic and sample libraries now!
I started recording with a Zoom digital recorder , an AT4040, an AKG C200, a pair of Sony MDR-7506 and a Presonus BlueTube 2 channel preamp and the matching compressor. I had no idea what I was doing and this was 2002, so there were no internet videos to help me learn. I was 30 and had been recording for a while. I did have the advantage of working win some of the best studios in NYC and working with some really good musicians and engineers. I had just left my job (and paid for the gear with my severance pay) and I started writing songs almost every day in the morning and playing Tiger Woods golf on the every afternoon. I wrote 35 or so songs in those 6 months. The band I was in was starting to falter after our second record was released at the same time as 9/11, so I was writing stuff I envisioned as my first solo record. I was lucky enough to know the guys from Wilco at the time and went out to record some of the songs with Jay Bennett, who had been the de facto producer of some of Wilco's early records, as well as the multi-instrumentalist. I spent a week in his studio and we put together the record, pretty much just the two of us. I learned early on not to be precious about the gear, even if you have nice gear. Everything is a tool. Over the years I’ve had a full studio and recorded other bands and I’ve had very stripped-down set ups. The biggest pitfall is turning into a gear collector and not a musician, which tends to happen to guys my age. I’ve tried to put a moratorium on buying stuff and concentrating on just making music. It’s harder than it seems like it should be.
what’s your favorite guitar that you own
WOW what a top lad. Thanks so much for sharing your work and your process! Especially loved that guitar sound and your entire production, beautiful vibe on that track.
you're too kind, thank you!
What mic do you use for recording acoustic guitars? I’ve got the AT2020 usb mic I use currently, but was thinking of getting an SM57
I switch back and forth between the AT2020 and the Beta 57A. Depends on the vibe I'm going for. The AT2020 is great for overall acoustic guitar production, but I love using the Beta 57A for getting very warm, almost tape-like acoustics
i’d say use your AT2020 i bought a sm57 to record finger picking and it’s not particularly the right tool for the job. you’ll need more gain from your interface to power it and you’ll be more likely to enduce noise floor
I need those guitars to make music! 🤩
I’m jealous of your guitar collection
I noticed you switch between ezdrummer and logic drums, which do you prefer more? I am trying to decide if I should get ezdrummer for Black Friday prices or just stay with logic drums! Love your vids man!
I prefer EZDrummer. I like having more autonomy of my sounds, and I think that the quality of sounds is much better in EZDrummer as well. There’s great case scenarios for both, but if I had to pick one it would be EZDrummer

Damn this song just made my whole day better, sounds amazing brotha
Very cool. No vocals?! Thanks for the video.
I wanted to but I just didn't feel inspired to do them in this one
This one is so so good. It handles my vocals better than every other comp. And it doesn’t push the lower mids like the uad tube tech does. Amazing
*why u hiding tie fighter?*
the world is not ready for my nerd
@@TrevBarnes noooo
Some super cool Marc Sibilia vibes. Dig it!
