I think the term "over eat" should be removed from this conversation. Over eating according to whom?
@@snacktivist I think I’m speaking from my experience and my experience has been overeating in the sense that I know I’m eating too much for my body as it’s given me physical signs of fullness. Feeling overly full and sickness feelings. More negative feelings than positive. That’s how I would describe the term overeating its individual to each person but for me that’s how I’ve known. And I think in most cases most people can tell when they have overeaten.
@@hettijayne people with severe restrictive eating disorders who are still struggling in recovery are watching this video. The term over-eat is a trigger. For those of us who are eating upwards of 6000 calories a day, pushing to eat to mental hunger, eating to physical discomfort to get the calories in, eating more than other people ... there is no such thing as "over" eating. Please be cautious with your language. In recovery from starvation there is never too much food. People with disordered thoughts and hard-wiring around food, in many cases, cannot tell the difference between under eating, "over" eating or when they've eaten "enough"
This was such a comprehensive explanation of what recovery looks like. I'm sharing this with a lot of people!

Thx for sharing your experience and thoughts 💭 for me it’s all about trial and error. For now I am trying all in. And then I just take from there. Day by day. Step by step. Structure for now feels still restricted 😮 at the moment.

@@Flauschbally it’s hard to say a definite number or time frame tbh because I didn’t decide to fully recover until years later when I actually realised I had a problem. But I guess 1-2 years after going all in the second time. But it will be different for everyone and their circumstances. Hope this helps 🩷

Hi Hetti, I came across your video and just finished watching! As someone who has struggled with a restrictive ED for many years, the way in which you explained restriction, extreme hunger and the hyper fixation on food that comes along with most eating disorders was very insightful and just shows the understanding you have and the thought you have put into your recovery. I can see that you have worked so incredibly hard to get where you are today and you should be so proud of how far you have come and the freedom you now have. Thank you for sharing your story and showing others that there is always hope for recovery! <3

Thanks - super useful. Had a question - outside of the binges I often have an evening snack which I portion out to eat but most of the time I don’t feel fully satisfied so have another 1-2 spoonfuls or say another square of chocolate with a bit of PB on it. This is not a binge and probably not overeating (as i just have the extra to satisfy before stopping). Other times, say once every 2-3 weeks when it is a binge, I will have a couple of small extra things like usual but don’t stop and keep on going for a couple of hours. Outside of the binge episodes, do you suggest I stop once I have my portioned evening snack and train myself to sit with the discomfort of wanting a little more to satisfy or is it ok that I often have a little more in order to stop at full satisfaction? Many thanks
@@rezar6894 hi thanks so much for your comment and support 🩷 I think if it were me I’d first decide what behaviour it is you want to stop and why. And then differentiate the two. The extra little snack you have, how do you feel after it? Are you full ? Satisfied ? Content and happy? If so is that okay ? The other times are these binge eating or overeating ? What’s the difference? How can you tell a binge from overeating ? Usually binge eating feels much more compulsive, out of body experience. Where as overeating could be grazing all afternoon and then later on feeling like you’ve eaten a little too much and feel abit full or sick. However there are pauses in between. In which case, if it’s overeating then id suggest putting small healthy gentle boundaries in place to help you break the habit. So yes for example you could tell yourself il have breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner and one dessert each day. Stick within those boundaries for example then you know those boundaries, and you know you’re not restricting yourself, but it’s giving you some form of healthy boundaries to stick to to help stop with the overeating. Not sure if this helps at all, I hope it does let me know how you get on. 😊🩷xx
@@hettijayne- thanks so much for your prompt and detailed response. All very useful questions and tips. Just to clarify, 95% of the time they don’t lead to binges and even when I have more than I have on my plate for my evening snack - I wouldn’t call it overeating, as it’s 2 spoonfuls of cereal and a small spoon of honey or 1 square of dark chocolate. I guess even though I portion out a decent amount I don’t feel fully satisfied so usually want a 2-3 more bites to feel fully satisfied. I don’t even classify these as overeating as I don’t feel too full at the end. I guess I could continue as it means when being done with the snack I feel fully satisfied or I could practice not going for any more than I portion out. The only reason I think the latter may be beneficial is it may help me to learn to sit with a little discomfort (not a huge amount as it’s literally a spoon or two more) and thus skill will help when dealing with a proper urge to binge when it comes. Do you agree or do you think it’s more beneficial to have the extra spoon or two to be fully satisfied or learn to be satisfied with the portion and sit with any slight discomfort for 30mins say before re-evaluating if I need another bite or two? The only reason I think it may be beneficial is not for restriction but to learn to deal with the discomfort so when a binge urge hits I can deal with separating myself from the urge to binge. I hope this makes sense and thanks a million for all your kind help and support x
@@rezar6894 no problem at all and thanks so much also for your kind words and support it means a lot. I think your idea and thoughts sound like a fab idea. And sounds to me something quite intuitive from your own awareness and sense. Why not experiment and try with both? Try sitting with that little bit of discomfort and see how that feels, and maybe practice that for a while. Make note of how you feel maybe a few hours later or the next day? Did you need an extra spoonful? Are you okay with out it? Test it again the next time the opportunity comes up. Then if it’s not feeling too good experiment with allowing yourself an extra spoonful? Let me know how you get on 😊and once again thanks so much for your kind words and support. It means the world 🙏🏽🩷

One thing that has stuck out for me recently that has helped me is that every season in life is temporary. Storms don’t last forever, the rain doesn’t last forever. But we need the storms and the rain to help the plants grow 🌱 so although things may be tough right now, I’m trying to lean into the thought that it’s helping me become a stronger more resilient person, and helping me to grow. And I definatly agree, focusing on what things you have in life that bring you happiness and being grateful for those things. 🩷thank you so much. Sending lots of love to you 🩷

@@hettijayne I use to work in education with children with special educational needs. But now I work in a finance department as a regional manager for a well known supermarket chain. It’s boring BUT, it allows me to take care of my family so, it’s all good. Yes, more regular content if you have the time to do so. I know you are busy with real life like me; so it can be tricky. I will probably start to to live streams again in the next few weeks, every Saturday and see where it takes me. My channel is about comedy, supporting others and having fun. More positivity is needed on RUclips in my opinion. That is why I gravitated towards your channel. Have a good evening and speak soon
