I like to do a lot of things DIY one thing I will never touch is garage door springs, will call a professional
Idk if you know this but he was fkn w you when he said the part about goin up and down the ladder all day🤣
I use the same springs in the trailers I built they assist the ramp
That door is my max deadlift
Would say so. Especially for his setup steel injected doors provide warmth in winter and summer coolness while in garage. A nice long panel Bridgeport are great doors.
Man, its the little comments you made to him 5hat tells me you do a good job. You know your stuff, your customer friendly. As a plumber who used to do alot of service, thats how you make your word of mouth clients eliminate do your advertising for you. The fact you told him what his door weighd and the cyclye difference betwwen old and new !!! Perfect man !! Keep on keepin on man ! Glad to see this in other jobs ! You make a handyman/tradesman the good wholsem rep they once had and deserve. Props to you my man 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
I really appreciate the words! I try my very best with every single customer i get to make sure they get a great experience!
The surewinder makes my life so much easier
Next time, I will park the lift closer to wall. Great fun watching some clowns... Speaking of clowns, I backed my zero turn mower into my roll up door and split it open. Now I'm the clown. Trying to figure out how to seal the rip.
We just did this. Our door had rips in it.
Start with a million dollars and she will be happy with the actual price
Big doors cost more
see your problem is concrete termites, we gonna have to rebuild your whole house and they're very contagious may have to rebuild your neighbors house too, give them my business card. LOL.
I know this is an old video, but you already had the torches out, so why didn't you just re-cone it? Much more reliable than clamping it.
Because 2 weeks later we torn the door out and put up new. This was the fastest wat to repair it
I’m currently a pool repair tech but wanting to learn a new trade. Any recommendations on locking down a garage tech job?
What were you guys building in the driveway? A lifestyle screen for thr garage door?
Garage door repair when I work for a company and I learned a lot and I was going to be a powerful tick when I decided I was going to be a tech instead of admin but the owners had such a crazy ego play ruin it by trying to invite me 2 strip club and say women were basically not fit for the job😅😅😅
music at beginning, gotta go away, toooo LOUD!!!!
One of my first videos! of course they arent the best!!
when someone says thankyou, the proper response has always been "You are welcome" not " of course"........ other than that great vid
Interesting
You did that the hard way dude
I did that the way without having to lift up the door!
Previous company ghosted her over something that minor? I would've found that in the first five minutes like you did, man some companies aren't worth a crap
It really is interesting when you go out to the field lol
If you're changing the bottom brackets on a door, can you raise the door all the way up so the tension is gone or will that cause it to go up on one side? Or should you just unwind the springs?
What would you say is the top 5 spring sizes you use. Or come across or keep your truck stocked with? The wire diameters, I mean. etc .218 .225
.207 .218 .225 .234 .243 .250 .262
I’ve only ran into .262 on a wood door with 1 spring, but i have ran into them. But you need .207-.250
Much obliged.🙏🏻
I always charge an extra 50$ if customers want to talk and watch.
no thank you... its part of the job
I've been watching your videos for a while now and think it's amazing what you do, and I was wondering what filming equipment you use?
All i use is a gopro hero 12 and davinci resolve to edit
@@tcgaragedoor Good choice!
I prefer the rope puller instead of those cable pullers. For light jobs like that door, the rope version releases way faster & you can pull the rope tight instead of doing all of that cranking. The difference would also require them to be used hanging the other direction b/c of how the rope grips the puller.
That was pretty cool to see how well the door was packaged with all the foam and plastic wrapped on the front. CHI just throws sections into cardboard and calls it a day 😂 How often do you see damaged sections on the residential doors? Thanks for the video 👍🏼👍🏼
Raynor is by far the best garage door supplier right now. Everything other brand we use does not package like them. The only reason that we cant always install them is because raynor is more high end brand. With the raynor doors, we have yet to get a single damaged or messed up order, with CHI, OHD, and Amarr, we have had issues
Like for manual🤙
😮💨
I have that tool but I don't know what the heck you're doing
who ever kid she has is a monster jam fan i see a el toro loco little rc vehicle
I took the bottom bracket off not knowing it was under pressure how do I fix it ? ⁹
You are going to need to call a garage door professional
1 Million dollars my ASS
Thats discounted?!
@@tcgaragedoor BULLSHIT
Im a garage door technician i wouldve suggested replace the sections only
You would’ve been setting the customer up for failure. What’s the sense in replacing one section when next year he’s going to have to call us back out for his other sections breaking? He also needed new cables on his door and who knows how long the springs
@@tcgaragedoor all four sections on a garage door that’s 8 x 7 probably cost you around 400 bucks for all four of them a spring for 8 x 7 is like 50 bucks cables like 20 probably cheaper & i can have all that replaced in 40 mins minimum $700 for the whole job
@@devilishirv Not everyone wants cheap? He wanted to get more insulation for his garage, and this is a great time to do that instead of making him pay over $700 (because there is no way we are doing that work for $700). We would be setting him up for long term success over short term. It was over 20 years old....
@@tcgaragedoor that’s the difference between us I give customers two options. economically vs expensive…not everyone can afford a new door whatd yall quote him 1,800+ for 8x7 lol i can buy a complete door for $450 whole sale price and buy insulation kits as well all said and done 1,100 for a new door w/ insulation profiting 350+ in an hr n half
@@devilishirv If you are installing a door in an hour and a half, you are cutting corners, which we dont do. We also gave him both options, but you only saw a 1 minute video of a hr call.. sooooo
Beevis and butthead
When someone stops to spend time to watch you do your job because they find it interesting. I ain’t gone lie, it feels pretty cool.
I agree :)
I used to detail cars and I'll never forget this man, about 10 minutes in I started packing up and refused to work on his vehicle because this man would not stop asking me questions and critiquing my technique when he had no idea what he was talking about. I had no idea how much that frustrated me, but I sure found out that day.
Why so many struts?
I did commercial for 6 years for low pay. Not for the faint of heart putting tension on a spring thats the length of your body, 35 ft in the air on an extension ladder....
I can do commercial, but i absolutely hate the heights from it!
I've asked costumer before to please go do something useful 😂😂
Why?
@tcgaragedoor because i feel their eyes 👀 on my back 😂 don't feel comfortable. I wouldn't stand behind anyone doing their job..or if I was, I would be giving a hand.
@@dzsuz1 Totally get it, what i usually do is always trying to be having a conversation, or letting them know what im doing, just so it doesnt feel like they are watching me, but just having a conversation with me while im working
@tcgaragedoor if they only want to chit chat a little that's fine, I like to talk..but then there's not much work getting done if they really like to talk 😁
@@dzsuz1 Thats apart of the job! You want to build a relationship with the customer, so they love your business that they refer you to others!
These experiences are either the greatest or worst thing ever, they either nitpick every little thing you do or they just talk shit and have a grand ol time, seems this was the latter
Ive never had them talk bad about me when im there! I usually just talk to them alot and it helps build rapport and trust from the customer
Great videos always. This new video shows huge improvements in production quality and extremely helpful input. Appreciate you.
I appreciate that! Im trying to make my videos more watchable, i really do appreciate the feedback. Going to start talking more about stuff other then doors too like whats going on in the business to make it more entertaining!
You could of just used 207x22 no need to cut really
Keep it up tho
Reason being from 99 high cycle spring that looked atleast 35in long , the 207x20 won’t last 24 years lol 6 max but hey another spring swap 😂
I replaced the springs with the option she choose which is the standard spring change! If i didn't cut, then the springs would have been 2 inchs too long and the door would not have perfectly balanced :)
What kind of door do you have on your house?
I dont have garage doors, but I will have carriage house doors, they are my favorite. Probably RockCreeke from Raynor or OHD Carriage house doors
@@tcgaragedoor oh sweet! Huge fan of the Martin door myself! I was a lead installer for 2 years, so I got real familiar with em, and then now I flipped over to SVC so I’m sellin em. Best and safest door on the market IMO. When I build my house, I want an 18x8 and a 9x8 Martin flush woograins with 9800’s or 87504’s depending on ceiling space haha! Best of luck to ya brother, stay safe out there! God bless!
Love your go-getter attitude man, keep up the good work👏
I appreciate that! I got some things coming in to plan, and plan on getting the videos more involved with the entire company, and the ins and outs of what we are doing, instead of just single jobs. I want to make it more like a documentary of our garage door business! How does that sound to you honestly because it will take work but i want to make sure the audience will like that.
First, this comment won't get 5 like
I disagree! :) Thank you for the comment you are amazing!!
You know, you could sell popcorn to the peanut gallery and make a quick buck.
No thank you! I like when people watch so i can show them whats going on!
As a fellow garage door installer and tech love this !!!! And have aspirations of getting my own y.t goin for it
Thats awesome! Its definitely alot of hours and work, but if you put yourself to it, and dont care about the long days you can do it!
@@tcgaragedoor 5 year in have my fire door cert I love the trade I love the people I’ve met it’s super super fun the company I work for is incredible
@@MikeMike-f8e Thats really great to hear! If you have something you enjoy keep doin it! Ive recently learned most people dread going to work, even if they are making amazing money (Just talked to a lawyer and a aerospace engineer who regret doing the jobs they do)
Anyone who wont allow someone to watch them do their work, you shouldn’t trust
Thats why i wear a gopro on my head... If I can do this, then our customers should be able to know they are getting our service this way every time!
@@tcgaragedoorthat’s good, wasn’t saying you in specific but. It’s just weird for certain people to do without quality assurance like you have.
@@sampowers8995 i 100% agree
Majority people wont/havent seen someone adjust a garage door spring. id say its probably one of the most watched professions due to curiosity besides plumbing if something of value was stuck in the drain, and maybe home calls for computers or internet
It seems that people like to see it!
Wym spring cycle like they have a life span cause mine been going for 16 years should I be concerned
They are probably close to breaking, but i’d say the same thing about a door that’s 10 years old. standard springs last 10k cycles, but the amount of years you can get depends on the amount you use the door
@@tcgaragedoor no joke every single day min of five times a day. Home was a model home garage was the office so it was converted back to a garage only has one spring it’s a two car garage with the big door not sure if it’s set up correctly I installed the garage opener myself haven’t had a problem with that one it’s a cheap lift master been doing its job well too long I say that because only one bulb socket works in it now lol
@@tcgaragedoor if I had to guess I’d say 2007 house was built all original stuff besides ac and water heater and appliances
@@tcgaragedoor took a good look at it yeah it needs some maintenance asap the two screws that mount and hold the spring on wall are coming out and you can see the whole shaft bending
did you ever address the actual cause? I didn't see you touch the pullies....
That’s because it’s in the full video! 🙂
@@tcgaragedoor ok, Ill see if I can find it.
Garage springs are scary af
With enough practice you dont get scared of them anymore! Why are you scared of them?
@tcgaragedoor the potential energy scares me haha. I know it's not realistic but i have this fear while I'm walking under them that they're just gonna pop 🤣
@@gandalfwisdom So, when the door is up, the spring actually only has abojt half a wind to it. They will not break when the door is up (if it’s a torsion spring)
@@tcgaragedoor That makes a lot of sense! Thanks!
