In this brief video I give an update on my seedlings that are heading to the greenhouse. These plants are a little over 4 weeks in the aerogarden and are actually ready to transplant now. I sowed them a bit too early this year and will fix this next year by planting in mid-March. They should do well for us this year anyways, was just a bit more work for me to keep them from growing too tall. I ...

How to Make Homemade Hot Sauce from your Peppers!!!!
It's pronounced CHIL-tay-peen, just so you know.
Hi, I stumbled across your video and Chiltepin pepper is a Mexican pepper originating from Sinaloa region of Mexico. The majority of people confuse or mix it up with the chile pequin pepper which is called the birds eye pepper, or chile de monte. Chile Pequin pepper is the one that is native to northern Mexico and the southern US mainly Texas. Chile pequin peppers are oval and chiltepin peppers are small and round. Chiltepin peppers are twice as hot as chile pequin peppers.
Did you make a follow up with results?
I did it this year and I shave sprouts
Do you ever plan to sell some seeds? On this mix?
How many seedlings do you add to one pot? What size pot thanks?
It's unbelievable how you make it look so easy
how's your chiltepin cross going, got any seeds you can send me?
So did you successfully x them? Did you get a pepper out of it? And how did it look like?
I never did actually. The flower aborted every time. This season I plan on making that cross happen. I think it will work when the Tepin is the mother plant. It never worked as the donor.
Exactly what I am looking for! Great job! What connector did you use to connect the main line in greenhouse to the irrigation line?
Great system.. I'm in the middle of building something similar and I was wondering how you calculate the drop per minute rate? Initially I thought around 2 drops per minute but your system is waaay more than that. Can you give me any tips?
I really don’t know the drops per minute but yeah much more than 2. I’m putting about 1/2 gallon in each pot after 15mims. I have a 75 gallon tank so it works out well. How many gallon hold tank do you have?
I use a regular can opener and it cuts just fine as well. Might be easier than pulling out the drill
Forgot to mention that also has a perfectly smooth edge
I guess I like the danger. Hah na. Very good idea thanks.
When do you prune your Chilpetin plant ?? Like what time of the month or what's the best time and best results for the plant ???
I really wouldn’t prune it. It grows so slow but when it finally puts on flowers it really goes crazy. I’m fortunate to have found a local Texas plant that is shorter and bushy. Most of my chiltepins have been more erect and tall. If you’re growing in hydroponics though, it wouldn’t hurt to top your plant after about a foot of upward growth. It will promote more lateral branches and you won’t have as tall a plane. Hope this helps.
@@thepepperguy6608 thanks
Isnit gonna have a shitty taste like the reaper?
These plants transplant easily. It’s easier just to go out in the pasture and dig some up. I am going to try to germinate some seeds anyway just to try it out
@thepepperguy6608 I grew tepin peppers from seeds. There are a few in each cell.. when transplanting; should I separate them in to invidual plants or plant the whole sell ?
Definitely separate them. I would plant the biggest from each cell into an individual pot. If you have space, plant them all individually.
I want to try hydroponics at some point.
It’s surprisingly simple.
If you have the plastic domes to cover each one, keep them on and the seeds stay damp and easily fall off.
Great point.
So this is my exact setup and I cannot find any domes small enough to still fit all 50 on there at the same time. I do have smaller than the original but they're still too large.
@@brentlygill3534 possibly could cover the entire system in a trashbag? That would keep it super wet inside hah. At least a few days after emergence.
I realized I didn't post the correct video a couple weeks ago. How embarrasing haha.
What nutrients do you use? I want to try hydroponics but I don't know about using nutrients. It's a little complicated it seems.
ruclips.net/video/XqtO-p1VOWU/видео.html
Flora series. They’re just the best to me. I’ve used them for the past several years and always come back to them after I’ve tried other things. I linked a video with more info.
Does it work with vinegar? It's interesting how this works given that bleach is extremely basic (the opposite of acidic). But I suppose it could still work since both acids and bases are corrosive. I'm gonna try it!
Try any texas chile pequin??? Similar to chiltepin.
I have not tried that. Maybe it was Texas pequin that I have had, but not sure.
@@thepepperguy6608 very viney plant. In san antonio, texas it would grow in the underbrush using then as a support. Tiny leaves about 2cm long. Very definate z shaped stem growing hard angles at the node. Prefers the spotty shade and underbrush. But it can be grown as a bush. I over wintered 1 for 3 years outdoors in a fishbowl style 1 ft diameter clay pot at temps as low as 29F in the winter with freezing rain.
@@dterra278 Sounds like a chiletepin as well. This one came from under a tree in the shade in, of all places, Austin TX. Very bushy as well.
@@thepepperguy6608 ahhh, so then is it simply a colloquillism? The "chile pequin". Im assuming then your original had very short rounded peppers on long stems, going mostly upright?
@@dterra278 that’s right. The piquín are more oval shaped, slightly pointed. Chiltepin very rounded.
Nice varieties. 👍👍
The Chileptin is hard to grow and you crossed it.😮😮😮
I appreciate it. I do enjoy that plant. Can’t wait to see what F1 looks like. Will cross the Tepin with more this year.
Thanks for the info on “low flow” equipment because regular stuff needs a certain psi which gravity fed does not provide . Great job!
i really like your system i will be doing a simialar set up great video mate
Thank you sir. Fairly low maintenance. Wish I had around a 500gallon tank. So much rain unused.
❤❤👍👍 After three years, I finally got a Chileptin to germinate. Others have said they are hard to germinate. But it looks like your hybrid germinates easily.
Great to hear. Check out my video on using bleach to help germinate chiltepins. It works really well. ruclips.net/video/shhYlKBKDB0/видео.html
Thank you so much for this video. It gave me a great idea for designing a system for my garden areas that do not have water close by.
Of course. Glad you liked it. Amazing how much water that can be used from rain. Will be starting to post videos again here soon.
Mentioned you in my latest upload, hope you & the fam are well😊😊
I tried to transplant my chile plant to another spot and it ended up dying so I'm going to try this to grow another. Thanks!
I was able to sprout them with the wet paper towel and ziplock bag method. Thyme been transplanted so we’ll see how far I get with them
Don't you ever chew gum while filming again 😂
Used this video as a guide. I have more chiltipen than I know what to do with. Thank you sir👍
Great to hear. Yeah I have a small chiltepin bush now and I bet it has 75 or more peppers on it. Grows real well once it gets going.
Please tell me you’re in San Antonio and are willing to part with some. lol
@@jamessmith4455 no sir. But sadly all my chillies came down with some sort of I don’t know what. But I only have about 4 that survived.
@@jamessmith4455 I could send you some chiltepin seeds if you want?
I germinated harbanero seed last week, just soak them in plain water until they are little bit plump and throw on the soil.in just few days (3-4)they sprouted!works great everytime,if you are in cold area it will take longer without grow lamp.
Man that’s a good looking green house. What was the price of 2x4 at the time lol. Gauging a cost on that thing. Great job 👍
I appreciate it. I believe they were around 7-8$ 8’
So I have made 4 attempts to germinate sets of the seeds produced from this fish pepper x Naga Viper cross and unfortunately have not had a single successful germination. I will have to end this project and start with a new series soon.
It's best to cross the annuum with a baccatum first before crossing it with a chinense as it is going to be more likely to be able to germinate.
@@G-boi i need some Baccatums. So far this is the only cross I’ve ever had that didn’t germinate completely.
Your plants seem to like the system set up. Pretty cool I think. It also seems fairly cheap, you've just gotta take the time to put it all together. Nice job😊😊
Honestly if I had power out there I’d have a small 12v pump and not worry with it. But it works surprisingly well. And I’ll never use anything but rain again.
Did you get them to cross
No not yet. On a new series this year I will be posting some successful crosses I’m getting with the Tepin. Should be posting an update video in the next week or 2.
@@thepepperguy6608 my buddy frank in Texas crossed jalapeño on the tepin mother plant they were awesome
is it ok to use both ph up and down in the same mix?
Absolutely if you need to. I do all the time.
Oh, I love this idea! You really are a pepper matchmaker...
👍👍😊😊😊❤️ thanks for the recognition, I appreciate it as always 😊😊 your plants look so GOOD!! Your channel will be featured in my video tomorrow 😊😊

Yes it’s in the bird stomach soften the shells plus when they shit birds produce guano which is urine and feces mixed and it’s like it’s own fertilizer with the seeds
Normal city tap water has chlorine in it which is bleach I’m not sure about the ratio but I never heard of using diluted bleach to soften the shells I’ve heard of using tannins from black tea or chamomile tea I’ve heard of using hydrogen peroxide I tested both and zero of the seeds I planted germinated come to realize those peat pellets you soak in water suck for germinating peppers in fact I’ve had an insanely hard time germinating peppers all spring the only peppers I’ve got to germinate all spring or to have an arrows none of my reaper sprouted none of my chocolate reaper sprouted none of my chocolate primo reaper sprouted none of my Butch T reapers sprouted none of my non-super hot sprouted and none of my super hot sprouted except two habanero
I just germinated some seeds from a chiltepin plant that I got as a gift and the bleach method worked awesome i have 12 plants started from 2 little peppers thanks
Wow nice turnout there. I’ve got a tepin plant with tons of flowers now that I hope to cross here soon. Will have a video.
look forward to the irrigation system video! :)
I think this is going to be a pretty cool series to follow. I've started some of the seeds you sent me, so waiting for them to pop up to share the seeds with everyone. Thanks again!!😊😊
Sounds good. Of course!
Oh wow! It took 11 months for the plants to get this size ? They are gorgeous
Hah no this is June of last year. I believe this was a little over 4 months after starting seed. Thank you!
Does grow Tent close completely or ants can enter? I have ants in my house. Planning to grow stevia, wondering ants might be attractive because of sweet leaves.
That’s a good question. Im not sure if sugar ants would be attracted or not. My Vivosun tent has decent zippers and tabs though. I wouldn’t think they would but don’t hold me to it.
Does keeping plants indoor in grow Tent with light and fan eliminate aphids and other plants pests?
I gotta say I’ve never seen a single insect in my tent. I guess it would really depend on the house and situation. Same goes with my AeroGarden. Definitely shouldn’t have any infestations like a late season white fly, which I occasionally get outside in my greenhouse.
