Just realised you’re the guy who wrote ‘Brainjo’! Which i’m currently very much enjoying as a new banjo player (20 years of folk fiddle but trying something new!)

Well the 'Penny has dropped' for me, as this approach to playing for all intents and purposes opens up any melody that can be played once its in place and embellished, I just thought well what's the melody to 'will the circle be unbroken' bang, embellish the melody and the song is there, this is why I subscribe to your channel. I also assume the same approach works with clawhammer and bluegrass rolls, you identify the melody and embellish with the particular style, is that correct?

GREAT Video. I am just learning to play and enjoy your video. Being new i am trying to follow the tab on the video and cant get something correct and was wondering if you could clarify it for me. In the second measure where you slide from the 2nd to the 4th fret the fourth note looks like is is to be played on the fourth string but i believe is should be the second string. Am I looking at it wrong? Ive been working on this song for a few days now and really want to learn it. I do like your method of teaching. I'm a visual person and only wish you had a closeup view of your hands as you are playing each measure but great content. Thanks!

So, I have tried numerous banjo tutorial channels for a long time and never made much progress towards an established style of playing. It tended to flat pick the banjo more than finger and when I did it was a technique I called claw finger which kind of produced what I wanted however the timing was never consistent and I relied on the heavy use of hammer ons. I decided that I needed to learn the technique “properly” and so began my journey with Josh at brainjo. Finally someone explained the technique very gradually with the what and why of how each finger is employed. I have to say that my first hour of learning this tune astounded me with how quickly the droning strings came together. Although I’m a by ear player I’m using the tabs to to ensure I keep those drones going between the melody notes. I highly recommend the brainjo method of teaching because for me it has had the greatest and quickest impact on my banjo playing. Thank you Josh

Now that you have numerous banjos that plug in I've got to the point where I ask myself how necessary finger and thumb picks. Besides I might play banjo for 5 songs in a 3 hour set and the rest either on guitar or bass.
