Awesome to see you Killing it here. I DM'd you last year. Got a trip planned in October with my sons. Will be camping and doing some surf fishing for a couple of days below the Point in OBX. I went there last spring and just love all the features of that area with so many good deep close troughs and sandbars and rips that I wanted to try it in October. Hoping to land some with my fly rod. Hoping I get lucky and hook up with an Albie, but of course, that's wishful thinking. I've only really tried fly fishing in OBX once and that was in May of last year. Though there were bait fish around, there weren't any big fish around so I didn't catch anything. I'll probably hit you up with a DM before I head out and see if you can give me some pointers on what flies to use and how to go about landing some fish with a flyrod from the surf. I see you don't cast hard so I'm guessing you're not casting too far. Every time I'm out, I'm double hauling and getting my 10wt out there as far as I can. This time I'm a bit more prepared and will be using both a sinking line and an intermediate line so hopefully I'll be able to get some fish to take the flies. Love seeing the action on the flyrod. I hope I'll be as lucky!

Ill take my hat off to you for your success in what I consider a river not worth the effort for the amount and size of fish that are in it. (with very rare exceptions) Ive fished that river from the park boundary upstream100s of times in my life and it just is not very fertile in terms of fish. Straight fork in Big Cove above the Cherokee hatchery is far superior when it comes to park streams IMO. If you know how to fish it.

Hey man just experienced the same exact thing a week ago during the heatwave here. Had my line in the water by 6am, was having so much fun (glassin with the Butterstick) by 2pm I hadn't realized I did not drink any fluids but my caffeinated drink which probably dehydrated me too. Temp went up from 70s to a humid 98 by the time I realized how winded I was and how hot the sun had gotten. I sprawled out on the ground dizzy and took all my gear off, barely got to the car where I had to cool off. Lets both remember to stay cool and hydrated man!! Also awesome video besides the heat!! What line were you using? I have this in a #4 with SA #4 Frequency Trout. I think it’ll perform better with a shorter taper or their multipurpose which is more like a #4.5, though I still enjoy the slower action. Takes me back to the 80’s only this is a much better glass rod. For the price, this is a great value and feels like my Orvis Superfine. Admittedly, I feel ashamed for having spent $500 on a rod that performs on par with a $40 rod.
