    Mark you've shown a profit at Cheltenham every year by as you say trying to pick winners, not value selections, when you went for value at Aintree you lost. This will win over the long term going for value is certainly not guaranteed,stick to picking winners.

  • @kelly2180
    @kelly2180 5 месяцев назад

    I hear you, Mark. Once you have a way into a race, it gives you a level of confidence in your selection. In racing circumstances, change all the time, so once you do your homework with an honest approach, I believe you will show a profit over a period of time.

  • @adking18
    @adking18 5 месяцев назад

    Don't overthink it. If you think it's value, put it up. If it gets beat so be it - over the course of the season it'll even out to a profit and the people who follow long term will know that. Ignore the people who are only following for one meeting. You absolutely have to get on early these days to get any sort of value, there's a lot of people out there trying to find that value and the bookies won't give it away easy. Ultimately I think the way to play this game to make consistent profit is to increase your chances and put up more bets, relying on that variance to swing in your favour over the long term/bigger volume - if that's more losers, who cares as long as it's a profit!

  • @JJRiordan
    @JJRiordan 5 месяцев назад

    Hi Mark , Appreciate your openness, honesty and vulnerability here as always. We all know there is only one way to bet and that's backing at wrong prices and playing with odds in your favour. It's the only way to make this game pay long term. That's how I bet and that's how you bet. With that being said , do you not think it's a bit fraudulent of you to conpletley change this up and advise people to do the complete opposite at cheltenham when you know that's not how to bet and that's not how you bet ? And why? All to appease a few mugs that havent a clue about betting ? The exact type of people you said you dont want as subscribers? Stick to putting up bets at wrong prices and dont worry about anything else. Mozzie is a good selection anyway and I think that horse will go off closer to 5s than the current 10s. It can come stone last, who gives a shite, doesnt change the fact that backing it at 20s down to 10s is a good bet and will have you in front in the long run.

  • @shaungurney3513

    you worry 2 much mark.the difference between value & best bets are you must think the horse has a chance to win & that also the same either e/w bets,the horse has in your opinion has a chance of winning!!!

    • @JJRiordan
      @JJRiordan 5 месяцев назад

      A chance to win? Every horse has a chance of winning. A 100/1 shot means it has just under a 1 percent chance to win , which is still a chance of winning.

    Go on the "chat" good to see you,we betting people know what you mean about other tipsters,a lot have 5 selections and on average on the day Might have one winner,that's ok but the four losers deluts that winner, depending I know on the odds of the win, you keep it nice and simple with not to many selections, regards Gerard from Cork

    Everyone backs losers mark. Take it on the chin rather than going to " well favs are winning and I dont back favs , I back value , so its bot my fault I'm backing losers " approach. Also just because a horse is a big price doesnt mean its value. And your whole approach to cheltenham both this year and last year was the opposite of what u preach. You were scrambling around putting horses in doubles and treble at bad prices praying something would click and in your own words "chasing" your losses you had before the fez even started. The winner you had that saved your bacon went off nearly 3 times the sp you advised.

      Hi John, in the bet review from Cheltenham in the first three minutes I say how hard I find betting now that I’m conflicted by trying to make a profit over value. My bets 10-14 were poor value and yes I chased a profit to keep my run going as I felt obliged to. I also have a few viewers wanting me to fail which makes me want to prove them wrong. I use phrases like shocking betting etc during that video. I talk to friends about the conflict between looking for winners or value. Aintree was different where I had no record to protect so I didn’t take the poor prices to chase losses. Absurde was a very strange bet. I really fancied the horse and he was contracting in odds. I didn’t want a replica of inothewayyourethinkin so wanted to be onboard before he got shorter. Then he drifts like a barge due to the rain. I realise it’s hypocritical to take the poor prices and chase my losses at Cheltenhamand not do it at Aintree but Cheltenham Chat to me is judged on Cheltenham and I chased there to protect my record. Thanks for the comment. It is a conflict for me I assure you.

  • @Paddy-vc3fl
    @Paddy-vc3fl 6 месяцев назад

    Good video as always, Mark, thank you. You're right about value. Any punter who bets regularly and who finds that he is winning in the long-term is winning because he is getting value (even if he's not looking for it). That's what winning punting is, it isn't anything else. Just wish I was better at finding it. 😅

    these people who boom mark are in the business of picking a winner and not value, and long term they are too thick to understand that the maths are stacked against them even if the bet goes on and wins... and because it goes on and wins at such a short price they then think it's a good bet.. so they continue to make negative value expectation bets. Then long term when they finally pull their abacus out, they start to realise they are actually losing money long term, even though their shorties win here and there.. it's what i call too thick to compete, they just want to take part.

    • @adking18
      @adking18 6 месяцев назад

      You're right but there has been plenty of value available at Aintree this week, admittedly with the videos coming out so late it's probably gone by the time they're posted and we don't know why Mark isn't able to get them up earlier, but lack of value seems like a poor excuse this week. Today for example Jimmy Du Seuil was available at 11/2 if you were early enough, Found a Fifty was available at 5/2, Champ was I think 33/1 just this morning. The National I think has value available, Vanillier and Meetingofthewaters should be vying for favouritism in my view and are out to double figure prices. Value isn't always a massive price, it's something above its odds. Now I realise I'm putting my neck on the line here and if these all go and run no sort of race I'm going to look quite stupid but surely they're value at the prices that were available?!

    Like the Facile Vega angle. One i hadn't considered. I will get that one on side. I know you aren't one for book building Mark but it sounds like you are having a little go this year. I got 20 of the 27 winners this year. +3000% profit. You know what you are doing and talking about so you should definitely consider it. A few you didn't mention that are worthy. Salvator Mundi will almost certainly be aimed at the Supreme and will have had 2 seasons in Mullins' yard. The run in the Triumph was just that, a run. He will be campaigned properly next season and the form line with Sir Gino says he could be a very short price on the day. Majborough i have covered for the Browns, Willie says he is built like a 6 year old, and as you say, Ballyburn for the Turners would be the likely chasing target and i can't think of any other McManus novices that could do the 3m distance but will cover for the turners anyway. Another Supreme one. The forgotten horse. A Dream To Share. Again, Form is obviously there and if back to full fitness is a tidy price. Mirazur West was bred to be a chaser and would be surprised if he wasn't campaigned for the Arkle or Turners and would improve a lot for it i think. Keep an eye out for Tiger Bay Queen in the Mares Novices' Hurdle. Picked up a niggle this year and didn't run but is owned by McManus and trained by Peter Fahy. The trainers comments are that this horse ran in a schooling race against one of his good horses and won by a hurdle. Hope you keep the videos coming in the close season Mark, even if it's just musing about all things Cheltenham. 👍

      Can you put up some of your slips showing your 20 out of 27 winners .I have never heard in my life anyone backing over 75% winners as you must be the best tipster on the planet

      @@barrystewart4001 Well they have been cashed Barry. As i said though, i am a book builder so it's not as though i just picked 27 horses and landed 20. You lose quite a few along the course of the season but about, i'd say a third of them stick and make it all the way. I had such a strong first day though that i did a few cover bets across the week. I was heavily involved with Embassy Gardens in the NHC at 25/1, i covered that on the day with Corbetts Cross, think it was £40 at 15/8. Between the two, there was a strong chance i was on the winner. 90% of my ante post bets are EW also so there is also good money to be made on the place market itself. The Ryanair i had the first 3 home, 2nd and 3rd were ante post and i threw £20 at Protektorat at 17/2 on the day, Triumph, Majborough 16/1, Kargese 20/1. Champion Chase i had been chipping away all season at El Fabiolo ranging from around 13/8 down to evens, the odd few quid here and there until it yielded about £200 return but had also been on Gentleman De Mee at 33/1 and on the day Captain Guiness at 11/1. Fact To File was backed at 7/1 as was Gaelic Warrior and Ballyburn was covered at 12/1. Not all massive prices but some are in relation of their SP. It goes on and on but it's a good strategy. This year was easily my best though. If you can work out which novices are going where early enough or have a general idea you can have the top of each market covered at good odds and then selectively play on the day if there is something you have in mind but haven't covered. The handicaps, i managed to land 5 of them, i was only on Absurde and Better Days Ahead on the ante post winners and the other 3 i landed on the day. I don't generally play the handicaps until the day of the race. The value is there at a constant. That was a long winded reply but i don't claim to be a super tipster, i am not even a tipster, i just have a way of betting and trying to stack the odds in my favour. I have £700 laid out for next seasons Cheltenham already. mainly the championship races but there are a few novices in there too. £300 of it is my money and £400 of it is the bookies money. I also have £40 in free bets i have had in doubles with horses like Con Hill and Fact To File etc.I like listening to people like Mark and there are a few others. I am confident i know what i am looking or but i hadn't considered the Facile Vega angle but it's a relevant one and 20/1 is a great price, one that could be 2 or 3/1 on the day.
