    But this is a lie. The climate hoaxers specifically invented the green economy. Earn trillions and control people. What to buy, how to build, what to eat and where to go. There is no scientific evidence that humans are responsible for the warming of the planet. Now the cold period is ending and the warm one that is familiar to us is beginning.

    The selling the idea of stone construction to the housing marketing - constructor, sales, consumer - requires effective marketing. What I'm hearing here - I am a marketer - is very interesting, prompting me to make notes that I can apply toward developing marketing concepts non-construction industry clients. Hopefully someone in the stone industry is doing the same for its own sake. If constructing with anything less that stone or a stone hybrid is factually identified as relatively inefficient and carbon costly etc., how do the stone sourcing, architecture and building industries effectively communicate that message to potential customers? What is the message? Is there a convincing strapline? I have seen much coverage in general media about the return to timber, even for high-rise buildings, but nothing about stone. The current crisis in Ukraine should be a reminder to the UK - which seems to have forgotten that an IRA truck-bomb in London's Bishopgate caused a reported over £1 billion in damage - that glass buildings, the current pox of so many UK cities, are useless during times of conflict. Imagine a post-WWII London had it been the glass city is has become today! One observation for the ladies posing the questions: the screens behind you are painfully annoying. IMO it would be much better to have the real background, whatever it is. Thank you all. A very interesting video.

    What's 'natural' about membranes, tapes (plus the waste backing paper) and chemical airtight sprays? No mention about the need for internal air circulation once you've made your old house 'airtight', and from what I've read on their website, Diathonite uses NHL5 (low capillarity, less flexible) which is fine if you're building sea defences, a lighthouse or a house in Venice. I think the selling point of 'faster setting than normal lime plaster' could become a problem with these products in the future and I guess only time will tell how compatible they are with older buildings, but I feel most of these products are better suited to new builds. I would suggest anyone looking to do work on older buildings watch the talks by Nigel Copsey and David Wiggins regarding hot lime mixes.

    A curiosity that is rattling around in my head but to which I do not have a clear answer at the moment, combined with external cork insulation, what values can be achieved? E.g. wall thickness approx. 24 cm and cork 16 cm for a total width of 40 cm? (Ratio 1.5) Not only for the thermal capacities but for the thermal damping or phase shifting behaviour and whether the hygroscopic capacities do not deteriorate.

  • @xxwookey
    @xxwookey Год назад

    This is an excellent talk. Details are where the good stuff is :-) For woodfibre on old roofs are you ever limited by the strength of the roof timbers (woodfibre is quite heavy so a decent amount of insulation may be adding quite a lot of load)? Re the chimney debate: I filled my chimney with leca a decade ago and it's not caused any issues so far. I think the obsession with ventilating chimneys is unhelpful and not really supported by the building physics. Some rules of thumb for when it's probably OK, rather than a blanket prohibition would be a good start. Certainly central chimneys should be fine and if we are EWIing or otherwise making sure the brickwork is not letting a load of water in should also be fine. Do people have examples of where an unventilated chimney in retrofit caused significant problems? Has anyone cut in foamglass blocks in order to fix the thermal bridge through the loft insulation problem? Ideally we should probably be mostly just removing unused chimneys as they end up just providing big holes and big thermal bridges.

    Big fan and user of all the guests materials, thankyou for the interviews, but one word of caution on using zinc in linseed oil. In the best oil painting art practice, zinc is no longer used. It causes embrittlement of the paint film and has become the bane of the art conservators world. The best oil paint manufacturers and practitioners no longer use it, although there is some research that suggests that 3% or less can be acceptable. Sadly, lead still makes for the most durable white oil paint.

    20:05 Plywood is more vapour permeable than OSB. In most of the UK it's typically fine to place engineered sheathing anywhere within the internal half of the thermal resistance of the whole assembly, it can even be helpful as it acts as a vapour throttle reducing the vapour transport from the warm interior to the cooler surfaces of the exterior. Generally, my biggest concern with these assemblies are that they do not include a drainage plane between the exterior render and the insulation. Ideally it would also include a minimum 6-8mm ventilation mesh to handle solar vapour drive, and or to promote drying of the insulation to the environment. If the exterior is not exposed to prevailing weather/wind driven rain, then a few layers of building paper and a stainless steel wire lath/mesh is sufficient to create a dimpled flexible drainage plane to address most issues. Direct application of render to the insulation requires thermal energy, therefore intentional inefficiencies, to be available to keep the assembly dry. Buildings with a good form factor don't need much insulation for a given performance /m2. But as soon as ~120mm EWI is applied, then the render remains wet for much longer and problems can arise.

    Really enjoying this series! I examined the potential of wood fibre manufacture in Wales for my MSc dissertation last year. The evidence is that it's technically viable, could cut shelf cost by <50%, and is the most fabric-compatible einsulation for the 25-30% of UK homes over a century old, avoiding the unintended consequences of impermeable plastics and providing a robust solution for the growing impacts of climate change, particularly summer over-heating....nicely explained here with decrement delay etc!

    John Butlers presentation at around 1:02 is highly relevant and I don't have difficulty with the numbers. The quantity of straw is not the problem, the logistics of getting it will beat you, as agricultural contractors we modelled this at the start of 2000 and decided that utilising a co product like straw was not sustainable if you wanted to scale it's use significantly. However growing fibre specifically as a construction material is feasible if you extend the growing/harvesting/storage/processing season. You also have the option to grow specific fibres arguably better suited to building with at higher yields per hectare and massive carbon sequestration potential while supporting other for public good services. If anyone is interested in developing grown construction grade fibres at scale please contact me to discuss possibilities for collaboration.

    Greenhouse theory says the atmosphere warms the earth, the GHGs warm the atmosphere, more GHGs make for a warmer earth, a warmer earth is bad. ALL of that is WRONG! 1) By reflecting away 30% of ISR the albedo, which would not exist w/o the atmosphere/GHGs, makes the earth cooler than it would be without that atmosphere like that reflective panel set behind the windshield. Remove the atmosphere/GHGs and the earth would become much like the Moon, a barren rock with a 0.1 albedo, 20% more kJ/h, hot^3 on the lit side, cold^3 on the dark. Nikolov, Kramm (U of AK) and UCLA Diviner mission all tacitly agree. 2) the GHG up/down welling, “trapping”/”back” radiating/delaying/intercepting, 100 % efficient, perpetual warming loop requires "extra" energy which according to RGHE theory comes from 3) the terrestrial surface radiating that "extra" energy as a LWIR ideal black body which 4) cannot happen because of the non-radiative, kinetic energy, heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmospheric molecules and as demonstrated by experiment, the gold standard of classical science: principia-scientific.org/debunking-the-greenhouse-gas-theory-with-a-boiling-water-pot/ 1+2+3+4 = 0 Greenhouse Effect + 0 Greenhouse gas warming + 0 man caused climate change.
