Heads Up!! I work For a fire dept and our chiefs put these on their trucks... Well after going on a Vegetation fire for weeks driving on dirt roads the back of the truck had more dust and dirt in the back than a sand box!! They had preached how good they were and no more dust will get in the back of the trucks protecting all equipment, I LMAO!! Piece of shits!!! No to mention the water leaks... Good luck!

Chevy, Ford, Toyota, or other trucks, this is a pricey cap for its size.....but compared to a new leer or ARE , this is a descent looking cap with pop up sides for easy access.......only thing is the price for people to complain about, but check out other new caps before you do.......would like a update in six months to a year on how you like it 👍👍🇨🇦

Great video, love the shop (jelly!). I just placed my order for its competitor, the OVS Expedition bed cap, for my 2024 Tacoma at a 15% discount. $4400 plus tax for the SmartCap vs. $2,289 “out the door” for the Expedition. They are both made with stainless and powder coated but the Expedition cap has no side windows. NOTE: The SmartCap is manufactured in the USA. OVS imports the 304 stainless steel Expedition cap from China.

This thing is sweet. I want to make something similar for sxs overlanding. My wife says no way... so I can make it twin mattress wide for just me. I don't need a TV or anything just a vent and a light so it should be easy enough to pull off. Thanks for sharing your skills knowledge and experience. Appreciate ya

I looked at 2 brands very similar to each other - Smart Cap and Expedition. I saw where Expedition quality was better. I chose Expedition for my Dodge Dakota SLT.

If you ever find yourself needing to work with the tape adhesive like this gasket; 3M makes an adhesive promoter called “3M Primer 94 Pen”. I keep a few on hand as they are relatively inexpensive. You can get a 10 pack for around $15 usd. They make a phenomenal difference with gasket style adhesives. I found them when adding gasket seals to the tailgate of my truck over the factory spray in bed liner. I didn’t like the gap between the bed & tailgate on my 24 Frontier. Way too easy to drop stuff right through. 😂

good info man. i have a 2019 zr2, and i must say that i am drooling over the bison package for 2024 -- except for the turbo 4, and the spare tire in the bed.

I'd NEVER use wire nuts. Too much vibration. I'd also rewire all the. Outside lights while I can get to it. The wiring in those are crap.

I have the Canyon AT4X with the AEV tire mounted in the bed. Do these caps clear the tire? Looks like there is room on the sides, was wondering about height?

I'll never understand why so many people want these. Slow, heavy, introduces many more failure points. Rotating the handle by hand really isn't that hard to do.

Awesome vid!! You were a shot of adrenaline in my camper planning. I'm 51, and planning on taking a year+ to travel the country and see every National park I can, and see a Baseball game in every MLB park. Time frame is about 5-6 years out, and will work a few days a week remotely no matter where I'm at. I went crazy and started 3D modeling my dream trailer. I eventually settled on 6.5x12 trailer size. Inside has a custom futon (I'll build it) and removable table so I can work or chill and eat watching a movie. Am I crazy to go that big? 5x8 and 6x10 just didn't feel right for my needs of living on the road for a year+. I'm also planning on getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy down the road so I'll need space for an 80lb doggie. I'm doing the rear outdoor galley with a Truma 69L dual zone, Nomad kitchen sink/stove pullout drawer and custom cabinets I'll build. I started with the Bend Oregon Tallboy trailer size and dropped the height to 5'. I'm 6' tall. Would I be going over board if I went 6'3" so I could stand up? I do want to be able to boondock, be able to go offroad but I don't plan on doing crazy bolder ridden trails. Appreciate any and all ideas and criticism. Also. Galley. I put mine foil side out also. I experimented with both ways it did show lower temps with the heat gun with foil facing out. I did put a foil radiant barrier over studs to give an air space then 3/4” foam. Black trailer 5,000 Btu ac in Florida I stay in the mid 70s inside.

I'm having trouble with my truck being too tall to get into the garage. I'm wondering if I lowered my truck then installed airbags to raise it up when driving, if that would work. Thoughts?
