Hello, my name is Peter, and welcome to the channel. I started building out my truck at the end of 2021. Now I explore areas I couldn't, before.
First campout of the year, and testing my new ICON suspension.
It's been too long since I camped out. I've had a lot of work done to the truck, so join me as I test my new suspension, and camp for the first time in months.

99% of bad camping experiences are created by intrusive, rude humans.
I think for most of us, camping is meant to be a quiet and restful experience.
I would be scared
It's just fear of the unknown. If the truck was being rocked, I would definitely have a different reaction. It's actually happened a few times since then. I kinda like it now. I've got a big trip coming up. We'll have to see what kind of trouble I get into 😁
Carry you a gun and put light outside of your truck. With l go camping keep a knife under my pillow. Me and my dog try go to a safe campground where lot of people and sheriff around the campground every day. Please be careful and stay safe.
Turn off the lights. Peek out the curtain! Pretty easy
@@dave-d-grunt with no outside light and ceramic tinted windows, you can't see anything.
@@adventuresintruckland ah. I can see that May have been a problem. We had a buck do that one year
I think I had something similar. Stay tuned. I've got a big trip lined up next month.
You’re lucky it was an animal. I was in Mammoth in October and had a human circling my camp site for 10 hours. I’d much rather have a wild animal circling around than a creeper.
Absolutely. Humans are definitely worse. But if it were a person, I would have reacted very differently. I hope you have ways to maintain your safety?
@@adventuresintruckland I’ve learned since that incident how to be better at being safe. I ended up calling and filing a police report and sending them photos of the footprints around the site.
If anything feels not right, you should get out of there. Not worth the risk. I'm based in norcal if you find yourself in this area. Maybe we could do a weird overlander/van life collab lol
@@adventuresintruckland yep
This is exacltyu what i want to do in my excursion except make under the bed a drawer i can pull out and use to cook on. perfect build
Thanks! Good luck with your build. Just remember that the plywood I've used weighs about 300 pounds. I want to replace the plywood with 3M reinforced polyurethane foam board. Lighter, stronger, but much more expensive.
Good to see you back. Great idea on the tailgate, I may have to do that myself. Thanks for sharing.
It's good to be back 👍🏻
great on ya mate. camp the way ya wish :D
Just kinda said screw it lol
Very interesting insights & I will be thinking on your conversation. I am wondering if you have ‘active’ ventilation in the back of the truck to deal with condensation.? Thank you for sharing the adventure.
I don't have a roof vent/fan. When it's cold, having a continual air exchange might not be a good idea, depending on how cold it gets. I have a small dehumidifier, which makes a big difference. Running that over night and running the diesel heater in the evening, to dry everything out, is also a big help. But most of all, keep a window open! I suppose you could put a fan in the window over night, but that will lower the temperature. You have to adjust based on humidity and temperature. If it rains, I run the dehumidifier every time.
@@adventuresintrucklandI’m from Anchorage Alaska so deal with some fairly stiff winters here. Your set up interests me quite a bit. I imagine having the diesel heater running in cold conditions pushes quite a bit of air out automatically ( passively )providing some ventilation… given the topper is not sealed tight. I am in the process of setting up my Toyota Tacoma in a similar fashion and would like to be out during the winter as well.
Well, your winter is extreme. Truck toppers have poor insulation because of the windows. You might want to find a way to cover them. And I'd suggest buying one of the best diesel heaters, like Espar or Webasto. You'll need reliability. And of course make sure the fuel doesn't gel and your lithium battery stays warm enough that it doesn't shut off. And here's something I've just started looking into. The plywood I built with is very heavy. I'm thinking about replacing it with polyurethane foam board. 3M makes a reinforced board. It's expensive but lighter and stronger. You might want to consider that. I hope record your build. I think it would be interesting to see.
And the heater recirculates the air and doesn't ventilate. Raising the air temperature will combat condensation, but not dehumidify. Your body will raise the humidity, so that's why I use a dehumidifier. It doesn't remove all air moisture but it does offer a notable improvement. You buy small ones on Amazon and run it on 12 volts.
@@adventuresintruckland thanks for your input🙂
Nice build man! Got the same topper this week. Cant wait to hit the woods!
Thanks. Enjoy camping in your new topper
Awesome! Thanks for the update. Hopefully things quiet down for you soon.
115°F ... well ... that's like walking on the surface OF THE SUN!!! Lol. Going with your gut has always served me well. Good call!
The thing I didn't mention was that my AC had also just died 😬
I love...love...love it when people pull into xamp, set up, then make dinner as we watch. Same for morning coffee and breakfast. Doesn’t even really matter what you make. I just love the ambiance of you talking if you feel like it and us watching the making of happiness! Thanks again for sharing your videos with us!
Good to know. I'll definitely keep that in mind
Nice looking setup! It's a good looking, clean layout. thank you for some great ideas. I figure it'll take a few tries over several years of use for me to work out most of the design and application errors but it's always cheaper than a hotel and more comfy than a cot. Great video. I enjoyed your style and getting to walk through with you as you figured it out; including the music!
Thanks Shawn, much appreciated. You may want to check out some of the later videos to see some of the updates I made. And CONDENSATION is definitely something you need to consider. It can be a big problem.
I muted the music
Thanks for the feedback.
Thats because you live in the west coast, you can’t do that in the east coast, everything is private property and very overcrowded
Yes, I've spent a little time on the east coast. Not easy to roam free, over there.
Nice views but had to put on mute
I've actually considered re-editing some of my videos, and taking out all of the music. I just figured that listening to wind and rattling would be worse. What's your opinion? Original sound or different music?
@chicnwing4519 I just posted a poll. Please add your opinion.
Not sure how quiet it is with a fiberglass camper shell but with my aluminum camper shell, every rain drop sound like marbles hitting the roof
That doesn't sound like fun. Fiberglass doesn't vibrate like aluminum, and with the carpet lining, the sound is softened. It's actually raining right now, and I find the sound quite pleasant.
I usually don't watch a video for more than 4 minutes. Before I even started this video, when I saw "favorite spot", I thought, I wonder what country, state, region etc this is. When you said "This region", or "this place" etc, I kept wondering when you'd give a clue. Made it hard to follow the rest of your story. Tried to make out license plate. No luck. Finally 18 minutes in, at the end it showed a preview of a trip you made to mono lake, so I gather you are not in Africa or Australia, but western part of North America. Nice tip on the mattress cover. Thanks
Yup, I did mention that it was northern California
If you want to see more of that camp spot, you can watch this video ruclips.net/video/uWVKYzHjUXI/видео.html
Thanks. I'm watching your other videos now and listening more closely. Very nice setup and cool videos. Thx
Might have been a black bear, Mountain Lion or large Deer perhaps? We have Elk in Arizona that love to nosy around our campsites at night and get into your stuff - but I don't know if you have those around June Lake or not. Hopefully (a suggestion...?) you keep some bear spray or other "protection" handy when you go out alone...
I was thinking a deer, and it was rubbing its antlers on the truck. I'm not sure if elk are in that area. And I have pepper spray should I need it.
I would put motion lights outside. I need to see at night if someone or something comes walking by.
That might be a good idea
No pass through to get in your cab & drive away???
No, I'd be trapped in the back. But this would be the same if I had a slide in camper. That's a big difference between vans and trucks.
Once I heard noises outside my tent. My tent was a little hidden. Maybe a bear chomping? I'm the fearless guy, so I looked out. It was people making out!
Lmao.... a different kind of chomping 😁
I was camped there 2 weeks ago, sleeping in the bed of my truck...no camper
I was there about a week and a half ago 😁👍🏻
Your in black bear country, wouldn't catch me eating food where I plan too sleep
I've camped in bear country quite a few times. Black bears aren't difficult to scare away
Do u not carry a gun that would scere it of how u no its not a person
No gun. I cross state lines, so that could be problematic. I have other things I can use to defend myself with. Initially, I thought could that be a person, but none of the doors were being tried to get open. So I figured a large animal as high as my windows.
So, what was it?
I don't actually know. As near as I can figure out, a deer jamming it's antlers under the wheel arch and rubbing on the sides of the truck. I couldn't find any tracks when I looked in the morning.
Looks awesome, very similar layout to the build I'm doing, appreciate the insights and review! Where'd you get the material you used for your mattress?
Thanks! The mattress was a twin mattress I bought on Amazon. I should do an update video. I've added 2 inch high density foam underneath, since I made this video. It makes a huge difference. So in total, there's 3 inch of memory foam and 3 inches of high density foam. I also changed the case. I don't recommend using a case like that. It was supposed to prevent moisture getting in, but it did the opposite. Moisture got in and the case trapped it, and the foam got moldy and I had to replace it. Use a protective open cover.
Nice set up. Is that a 6.5 foot truck bed?
Thanks, Victor. Yes, it's a 6.5 foot bed..
Great spot you found there. What lake if I may ask? No big if you don't want to say.
Yeah, I like it very much up there. It's Clear Lake. The forestry has a dispersed campground there.
Nice vid ! Good music 🎶 👌
Much appreciated, Frank. I thought I'd try something a little different. Maybe I'll make others like this??
How did you determine the height of the bed section? I would tend to want to build it a bit higher to allow for a greater volume of under-bed storage. Thanks
It came down to head room. I wanted to be able to sit up as high as I could. So once the main platform was in, I simply sat on things of different heights to see which was acceptably comfortable. Then measured its height.
@@adventuresintrucklandThanks
good day!Bravo,amazing trip. )
Thank you! It really was amazing 👍🏼
Having traveled That entire area countless times myself and during about 90% of the time in cooler months you made the right choice !! It’s a long walk out & help from some random person or persons is greatly diminished during summer months & higher than average temps. I recommend definitely going back out during early spring , in winter months , but definitely watch weather forecasts for rain ( or recent rains in that area ) as there are some pretty good chances you could either run into flash flood conditions or residual mud & either can be deadly or expensive if you do survive & need to be towed out of a muddy mess. Not to deter anyone from exploring the length of the canyon & surrounding areas , but please use common sense & stay safe . Not becoming a statistic is still the wisest choice 😎👍 C-ya , and enjoy .
Hi Stephen. That's good advice. I am planning to revisit when the temperature is lower. I'll be better prepared next time.
Nice view good camping spot dude
Subscribed. Hope to see many more videos on your channel.
Thank you! I have a few more lined up.
Beautiful spot!
My project includes a Renogy 40A DC to DC charger using the the same Isolatar as yours for the D+ signal source. The DC to DC charger tops off a Renogy 200ah LIP battery. The Renogy battery is connected to a 2000W Renogy inverter. I will also charge my Bluetti AC200 MAX from the inverter or I can use a 24v step up converter to charge the MAX through the solar port (24V X 15A - it is a 20A maximum converter). So I have some flexibility. I don't have a rooftop solar array as you do, so the solar port is available. I like the idea of using a 12V battery as a buffer between the DC-DC and the Bluetti since the battery holds more AHs than the Bluetti. Massive overkill for power storage but that rig will give me time to mull over the options during a major power outage.
That's a lot of power! Since I switched from the Bluetti to separate components, I've not looked back. So much better! If you haven't already, you should take a look at my update video.
This is the best setup I have seen in a long while and will have something similar in my truck on an 8ft bed.
Thank you! It's served me well. I would just caution you that the plywood is heavy!
I was the guy in the Cyber Orange Bronco that you chatted with before we started down. When we were almost out, we passed that Honda Element coming in and I said to my wife “ I don’t think they’re gonna make it up” 😄
Hi, good to hear from you. Yeah, there was more to my interaction with them than I put in the video. They didn't make it very far. I'm just glad they didn't get stuck and didn't have too much damage. A pity they didn't get to ride the trail.
What is the minimum clearance that you would recommend?
Difficult to put a number on that, but an SUV I think should be able to make it. There are few places that are a little tricky. For reference, my truck has a 3" lift and 35" tires.
@@thomza personally, my opinion is 10 to 12” of clearance, which is typically 35” tires
@@adventuresintruckland Maybe a stock Jeep Renegade?
Nice drone shots! Nice music, came in a bit hot.
Did you see the last video? Take a look at those drone shots.
Very nice layout. Everything seems to have a place. I like the flour-mica finish. That should also help when wiping down everything. I really like it!
Thank you! I tried to plan ahead. I've made some adjustments over time. You guys should see this soon. I've got a big trip coming up. Should be a lot of fun, and hopefully, you guys will enjoy the journey.
Excellent, I hope soon I start following your style
Thanks. Good luck on your build.
Nice
Thanks! Stay tuned. I've got something planned coming up, soon.
Nice work
You did a great job on your build my friend! God bless 🙏
Thank you
Build? The truck was already built, the topper was already made.
Randy Stern 😂Your ignorance is astounding
That is the correct term - building out a camper.
@@etiennesprangers1953 that isn't building anything
If I didn't measure the dimensions, cut the wood, screw the wood together, laminate the surfaces, install the solar panels, install the electrical system, install the fridge and a number of other components, then who did? This is called construction, otherwise known as building.
I like you truck man. What kind set up do you have? What kind of lift, tires and wheels?
Thanks! Nothing special. 3" rough country basic lift, method wheels and 35" KO2s. I've got air springs on the back, because I'm carrying so much extra weight.
