    It sucks. Like, they didn't care. They've always been a gameplay first philosophy but this was a whole other tier of wtf. Like, I'm not the biggest fan of Skyward Sword but I could see the POTENTIAL of "The Sky". TOTK sky is worse than it 12 years after that game. And I'd debate Wind Waker's "Great Sea" is better than both.

    Given Emil and Todds responses to Shattered Space criticism. I have zero hope Starfield will improve, and ES6 will be bad for sure. I almost wish I was never a fan of their past games, it hurts seeing the arrogance and decline from Bethesda.

    I've learned to love fallout 4 as a base building apocalypse game with some fun combat systems in place. @6:47 Fresh, new idea!? Huh? Did we... play the same game? Has Zelda not sacrificed herself in previous titles before? Did she not sacrifice herself in BotW? Like I'm confused. How is her sacrifice something new when she has done it countless times? And if you were referring to her just turning into a dragon in general, I mean, it's not really warranted. What was the purpose if nothing was done with it? Compared to other installments to save her kingdom, Totk was pretty shallow. Zelda took pictures, studied history, and saw murals of these people and did not say anything to anyone to try and prevent Rauru and Sonia from dying. If there was an effort in trying to stop Ganondorf BEFORE hand and turning herself into a dragon was the only option then sure. But, that's not what happened in the story. So, the process of draconification was unnecessary and also used as a way into manipulate us into thinking Zelda had no other choice when really everyone's downfall was her fault.

    Another problem with the intro is how fake it seems. Nora is a lawyer and Nate a veteran and probably have some money saved up, sure, but we have been set up to believe pre-bomb life was absolutely dismal, not picket fences and mowed lawns. An argument could be made that sanctuary was just a rare outlier. But that’s just so.. boring? Disingenuous? We’ve seen soldiers in power armor shooting a civilian point blank in the street and laughing as the opening scene in the first game. There was a plague, riots, chinese concentration camps, massive inflation (check the price when u pick up a magazine). Nate was stationed in canada(and some theorized he could be the laughing soldier for a while), all the more reason to have this brought up, if not in the intro, then later in dialogue. But no. It rarely ever appears to affect either character, they seem cheery as hell in the intro.

    • @DEBUGMODE
      @DEBUGMODE 19 дней назад

      I think it's a combination of two things. 1) They've changed the tone of the franchise since FO1 leaning into the picket fence Ameriana of the 50s. The franchise is built on the irony of the American Dream contrasted with the harsh reality of the nuclear sword of Damocles. 2) Some people (like Nate and Nora) are better off than what you described. Even if the world is falling apart, it's not that way for everyone. There's been a lot of crazy stuff in the real world but it doesn't necessarily trickle down to everybody. The older games didn't play up the retro-futuristic aesthetic quite so much whereas Bethesda has made that a core part of the series. I don't think that's necessarily bad as long as the satire remains. Todd Howard has said that "American naivety" is core to the series identity when asked if Fallout would ever be set in another country. I think he's totally right about that. Whether Bethesda is doing a good job with that theme is another discussion...

    I'm writing this before watching the video because I just want to gush about Fallout 4. The writing sucks, but damn do I still love this game. I already don't care for going through the story of a game over and over, and Fallout 4 doesn't really do any of that. You can start a new game with the quick start mod or by loading a pre-made save, leave the vault and go out into the world and have fun not just chasing your son, but also just rebuilding the entire Commonwealth from nothing and I adore that. The lack of a skill system means traits can really shine, the lack of level cap, the random legendaries, and the abundance of random stuff to find in the wasteland means an experience where you don't have to begrudgingly leave behind hours of work because of running out of levels to get or no longer having anything to find, and customizable weapons gives something fun to mess with everytime you hit your base. Take that and the improvements over Hardcore mode from NV and you can have an actually tough challenge where food and water need to be pre-packed before a trip and I bloody love the entire thing even if I ignore the story. Plus the side content is often better than the main story, so it's just really fun to explore. Anyway, time to watch the video since I'm pretty sure it'll be a really good watch even if I already have an idea of where it's going.

    Because Aonuma is a hack. Video done. Same as he didn't understand what made Majora great, now he doesn't understand why BotW worked but how making people wait for 6 years for the same thing and $70 was a slap in the face. I can't wait until he's gone and hopefully Koizumi gets the reigns.

    • @DEBUGMODE
      @DEBUGMODE 20 дней назад

      Not a big fan of this kind of analysis. Pinning your issues on one person because of some flimsy narrative built from interview snippets is not a solid foundation for an argument. A hack doesn't produce one of the best games ever made. That's a lazy, incurious critique. Think what you want of the games. But be very careful of broad statements about developers. You don't know them. You weren't there.

    BOTW has a good story, you just need to actively search for it if you want to know more about it. TOTK just has a bad story. It's told in a disjointed and repetitive way and it doesn't even make sense when you try to analyze it. It also doesn't even exempt to link its story to botw in any way despite being a direct sequel.

    In a nutshell, Fallout 4 created a AAA roleplaying roadmap storyline that competes with GTA5 all the way because there are ways of going about it as far as dialogue but it's only what the game allows because everything is too expectedly scripted when there is in fact a lot of the unexpected, well at least that's how your first playthrough feels like on New Vegas because your not coming out of a vault on New Vegas so that's understandable

    Great video, In general I love how Geoff Keighley is handling the production, I think he really loves the industry and want to popularize it. - I do love the trailers, but I wish they move some of them to the pre-show to make more room for speeches. - I think they should add peer voting, something like (50% Peers, 40% Journalists/Influencers, 10% Audience) - I also hope that they add something equivalent to "Scientific and Technical Awards" for the Oscars add focus on Game Development and Behind-the-Scenes, or at least a some categories of "Technical Achievement" like the BAFTA.

I imagine that the peer thing would be a big headache for Keighley. You have to have somebody decide who's in that peer group year-to-year and it seems like he wants to avoid that level of complication.

Probably won't. I thought she was more of a smuggler type than a bounty hunter though? Also, it's a Ubisoft game. I guess you at least have to give them credit for actually releasing something. EA cancelled a bunch of their Star Wars projects.

I eagerly waited for the raiders to attack and for me to find out where my weaknesses were and to rebuild and all that jazz. Only for nothing to happen. Killed the game for me, it did. Killed it good. I played for another 7 hours and put down the game for 5 years until attempting it again 2 more times and never finishing the game

    One thing that always bugged me about Fallout 4's predetermined backstory is how the marriage and child completely alienates gay people in a franchise that has traditionally been really inclusive. Anyone can make up roleplaying reasons why their character may have circumstantially become a soldier or lawyer, but it's a lot harder to justify why your gay character is in a loving relationship with the opposite sex (who they had a child with and always speak positively about, even in private). It's a shame too, because there is a lot of interesting writing opportunities when it comes to exploring the dichotomy of attitudes towards homosexuals pre and post apocalypse, but before that could ever happen Bethesda's writers would need the prowess to tackle a serious topic like homophobia or racism.

    Recently thought that Kellogg should've been an end game boss. The frank horrigan type. Coursers should have been made as a model of his psyche and skills. Imagine going around on small missions to find coursers and instead of the mission where you go into Kellog's head, you hunted coursers one-by-one collecting fragments of Kellog's story. Eventually when you had them all you not only knew his story but were then able to go to the institute and see the monster behind it all, and he's your son's right hand man. Only a thought.

    Without a doubt, this is the easiest Fallout game to get into if you're a newcomer to the series. And speaking of series, Fallout 4 is the one that the TV show resembles most. 🤩

      For sure. That's part of why I went back to grapple with it. And I do think the visual design of many things (carried over to the show) is one of the strongest aspects of the game.

    As somebody who only played Fallout 4 and couldn't understand why people were so critical of the game (I loved it), I now understand. Thank you.

      That makes complete sense. A lot of us who got into the series with Fallout 3 wondered why some fans of the originals didn't like it back then. This sort of thing happens with most long running series but it can be really pronounced in video games with changes between developers, hardware, and styles of games.

    I think playing 76 gave me a better appreciation for 4, not because I hate 76 either. It gave me a chance to see fallout 4 university from different perspective

      I don't think I'd call Majora a great story but I do think it's one of the better, more creative games in the series from an aesthetic point of view.

    34:14 genuinely, the strongest improvement bethesda has made to the looting UI is in Fallout 76, with the "Nearby Search" feature. I am admittedly a fallout 76 enjoyer, but Nearby Search takes away so much of the time and frustration of looting, and lets you do it all at once at the end of an activity. It's nice.

      I think that functionality makes sense in a game that's built around repeatable "activities" but I suspect Bethesda didn't include it in Starfield because they don't think it's necessarily appropriate for a single player game. I think I agree. There's such a thing as too much abstraction and quality of life concession. It's probably not a big deal either way, I just think it's interesting they decided not to implement it in their latest game.

      You're not the only one. Honestly I'm not sure what people expected from the show. It's not perfect but it's way better than the vast majority of video game adaptations - especially ones on that scale.
