There is nothing as beautiful when the dessert is in bloom! Each season we drove to Springbok, Namaqualand, Richterveld. Sometimes I stood crying from amazing to the beauty I saw. I just could thank The Lord and enjoy all the different couleurs! This is a must in september!

I need advise on how to transfer route and waypoints from basecamp to the overlander.my unit does show on basecamp but does not communicate

My cousin used to own 7/11ths of Gamkaskloof. We visited quite a few times, in normal family sedans. We have overlanded often since the early 1960's and none of us ever owned a 4x4. This new notion that overlanding requires a 4x4 is downright ridiculous. It makes local tourism an elitist exclusive thing. One can do Richtersveld without a 4x4, also Tankwa and Kgalagadi. Just stay off the demarcated 4x4 loops.

Aha! More material for my bucket list. Thanks Guys. Outeniqua is very nice. Craig I feel the same about Die Hel - very glad I went but, will rather channel my efforts towards other destinations. I do, however, regret that we didn't overnight at the bottom. Having the Gamkaskloof and Hel excursion as part of a full day on the bike was an ignorant mistake (even if in our 4x4). We eventually only arrived in Montagu at dinner time. We won't re-do it but rather advise others to isolate Die Hel as a single outing for the day and sleep over in the valley at the bottom. Pushing to get down to Die Hel and back as a destination only, means you don't fully take in the full splendour of what Gamkaskloof can offer. Anyway, so we learn. 🤓

Camped at Johannes last year during June and had a great time in the valley. Piet and Marinette Joubert are such wholesome folk. 🙌🏼

Just watched your video. Been down there about 10 years ago, but departing for the Hell again on Wednesday with my mate for two nights. Road looks shot, but sure my Fortuner will traverse it just fine. Cant wait... Tx for a great video.

After the big fire, it is amazing how the kloof has recovered. The place is worth a visit and there are a few tracks worth walking. Worth a few nights stay, braai and walks. No hassle from cellphones or TV. The ultimate time to relax. The drive is maybe a bit tedious but not dangerous if you take it easy, so the Kloof has become our yearly therapy session.

Downloaded on Mac, installed... Basecamp will not recognise my Zumo XT2.... It will connect to Garmin Exoress but not to Basecamp..

Those passes and surrounds are spectacular. Stunning drone footage to help get better perspective of the landscape. Die Hel is definitely a bucket list destination but preferably with an overnight stop at the bottom. We went in and out on the same day on bike + luggage. It was a formidable undertaking, especially with lotsa erosion ruts from good rains the week before.

Stunning footage and definite destinations to chalk up on bucket list. 👌

Thanks for a great video, Kirsten and Craig. We have done the Swartberg Pass from both sides. Not tough unless it’s wet or there have been heavy rains. But De Hell remains a bucket list trip. After watching this maybe using John’s Donkey Tours would be easier. Let him do all the driving so Wife and I can take it easy and enjoy the scenery as well as not risk our vehicle.
