Yes they are. They are designed to withstand winds up to 170mph depending on your location. I am located in Florida and have been building these for 22 years.
I live in Missouri which has as many or more bug’s than Florida but in the winter it snows a little here. Will the screen hold up to snow or can I take the roof off for the winter?
Only certain screen enclosures require a building permit. The homeowner can go through the permitting/construction process themselves no licensed contractor is required although it is recommended. There are plenty of local suppliers of aluminum extrusion as well as big box stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s that will supply material. Roof/cage structures such as the one being assembled in the video are a special order through specialty aluminum dealers. 1x2, 2x2 and 2x3 extrusions can be purchased in 10’ sections here in Florida at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Specialty places can provide 24’ extrusions cut to specified lengths.
True, its no secret you can purchase aluminum extrusion at home improvement stores at 10ft lengths. I can also buy PVC, doesn't mean I'm qualified to plumb my house. As a homeowner you can pull a permit, and you are also required to have inspections. So either you take the time to learn the trade and do the job right, or you can call a professional. Its really up to the individual. Personally, I find professionals when I need something done right the first time.
Yes, all we do is custom enclosures. With that being said the more curves your deck has the more metal we would have to use, sometimes it can start to look like a jail cell from inside.
No shop yet.. Man, that would be nice on these hot Florida days. We don't stick build, but everything is built on site. I measure and calculate all lengths and degrees... jobs like these could be built in a shop, most of our jobs are so custom it helps being on site for double checks. Thanks for watching!
Until you see the end result! Not saying these particular guys, but piece rate pay sucks for the customer and quality of the final product in more cases than not!
I have about 5 years of this under my belt. We would build and screen everything. I like how you just screen the roof, makes it a lot easier to screw in sidewalls. Rather then the screen blocking you, I used to hate how my old boss ran it.
Only convenient to screen after the standing of cage if the walls are short. 8-10ft Screening after also makes for a nicer looking final product. Screening before the fact needs to be done much differently than if the cage was already up....

Sorry to hear about your job. Unless you have someone that can teach you the trade it's not an easy one to jump into. Really just depends on the person. Got to be willing to endure the tough heat of Florida in the middle of the summer's with little to no shade, while grabbing metal that easily can go above 145°. Looking at getting this done but trying to figure out how much it may cost
Really depends on the area you live and the contractors pricing. Pricing is not what it was in 2005, the cost of EVERYTHING involved has gone up 30%.
Picture windows is where its at. Night and day difference. Really dont understand why one would want to look at uprights and chair rails....

No, way more......
20k for an enclosure that costs 5k in materials vs 2k for a fence that costs 1k in materials. if you don't care about bugs just go with the fence.
