My friends call me Daryl and I have been a machine builder, rebuilder and CNC service tech since the 1980's. I love what I do and love teaching others. That is what this channel's content will be about. Passing on what has been taught to me by others, and through my own experiences.
I have never had a job because this has always been my passion, building, rebuilding, or taking an old piece of scrap cast iron or machine and turning it into a useful tool again. The paycheck is just icing on the cake as the saying goes. My customers know that it's not about the money, it's about helping them out when they are in a bind. Honesty, hard work and kindness is what I am about.
I do scraping, spindle rebuilds, turret rebuilds, and add videos of doing all three. The smiley face water tower was taken when I was on a job in West Branch MI and the lightning was on a job in Muskegon MI.
I sell the things I fix on the link below.

This video is showing how all of the parts are assembled without being inside the turret housing. The clamp piston is actually the spindle housing. If you run coolant, the turret spindle bearings will probably be contaminated and probably will need to be replaced when the piston clamp cylinder o-rings start leaking. The spindle bearing preload should be minus .001" when fitting the spacer. The ...

Hey Daryl! I’m currently working on a t42SP. Doing a turret rebuild. Having trouble finding bearings and seals. Hardinge is being no help and not returning my calls.
I believe the bearing part numbers are in the video description and stated in my last turret rebuild video, but I will check it out. I have a parts list that I normally order. Email me and I will send it to you.
The bearing part number is IKO NAX 6040.
See my video titled "Hardinge Conquest T42 Turret Assembly and read the description. Which seals do you need? There are several CR seals, but the tool plate polypack seal has to come from Hardinge. I have that part umber too.
@@OtherBrotherDarylSmith Hey Daryl. For some reason I can get to your email
Thanks for the info I have a Quest51 that always trips the torque limiter, i wrote down the instructions on how to do this but lost them, again thanks for the video.
@metromfg Quest51 is a nice machine. I would recommend changing the hydraulic oil once a year and the filter element if there is one. Best of luck to you!
Cool video. I have to say, your avatar looks like the water tower in Fruitport, MI. Thanks for sharing your work.
That tip on facing and measuring turret alignment was great.
@@Panzax1 Thank you!
What is that thing what does it do😢
Sounds pretty bad
Don't you have a screw gun bro Geez Louise
What kind of grinder is that?
@@mattcook544 It's an Okamoto Accugar 124. 12x24 inch travel.
Heres another diy model. ruclips.net/video/o8GU7hRp_Ec/видео.html Just in case someguy wants to make one.
Daryl could you do some explaining on the turning table thing? Please, because i have to build one, would help me out. Thy regards Martin
Both of the ones I have had were made by Bowers. The round chuck is mechanical, you turn a shaft that lines up the poles on the magnet. I have many magnetic chuck from 3 inches to 14 inches. The rotary table isn't much different than a normal rotary, it just has a motor attached. The design of these are compact though, and both are incorporated into a sine plate. If I were to build one, I would used a small 6" rotary table that I could attach a motor, and mount a round mag chuck on it. Let me know if you want some photos of my mag chucks. 🤪
@OtherBrotherDarylSmith Hi Daryl. Ok i will google that idea down. I have a rotarytable but that is a hated stepchild! Is 26" board and weighs at least 60 pound. Yeah show that to us we are curios here to ;) maybe a small clip. Best regards from Switzerland
Well, the datecode informs about how old the tire is and how soft it still is. When they get too old they harden up and get warmer while driving. They too get chewed up by the abrasion of the street surface. I had not a blowout but almost. After i drove around, on a rainwet street, and metal hit the pedal as to say, the front tires had been grind down flat so the WIREMESH had come forrward into the light. So what did i learn? Dont do drive off somewhat hard with old tires on a wet street. Why, because the condition of wet street stones and old hard rubber will chew up the rubber extrem fast. And i mean super fast. The damage of a ultrashort burnout is enough for an oldtire.
hello Daryl smith how are you sir? I need some help do you have the electrical schematic diagram pdf file of Harding t 42 sp machine...

New Yankee Workshop? Scraping Furniture…. Is much different than scraping Cast Iron….😂
If it works let it fly. Charles
It all works the same. I just feel the need to do a better clean up after
Exactly! Thanks
The Man
I’m not sure how to feel about that
Yeah, I get it. It had to be done though. I was building a crate to ship a Moore rotary table and a half inch had to come off.
Been there and done that.
I have a Clausing 5912 that I use almost exclusively as a 5C collet lathe. I’ve had it for about 15 years. It’s a bit noisy, but it’s always been a good lathe.
They are good lathes and simple to run.
My Clausing 4900 has a 4C collet system. I like it as well.
Love it!
Awesome shop, thanks for the tour. Very impressive PPI on everything in the video!
@magnusandersson2929 Thanks Mangus! I need to figure out how to get one of those beautiful hand scrapers you make.

Good thing you love scraping! Look like a lot of labor hours there.
You have no idea how long it took to scrape those 7 camelbacks. And those big ones were hard to handle! I will call you tomorrow brother!

@stanwhyte7028 Hey Stan! Long time, brother!
@@stanwhyte7028 What a beautiful place to visit. I was in Cape Breton on a job back in 1998 for about 6 months. Best service call to date!
Stan, do you still have that beautiful magnetic level that I sold you? That is one sweet level!
@@OtherBrotherDarylSmith Yup. Very nice tool. Doubt I’ll ever sell it.
@stanwhyte7028 I said the same thing. 😀
Now I know why it's so hard to find second hand camelbacks. You have them all
Nah, 7 or 8 of them are a friend of mine, and I just scraped them for him. He is selling them except the 60" Brown & Sharpe. I will part with any and all of mine for a reasonable price, except the 36" with the dovetail. I have used that on several lathes and knee mill rebuilds. Honest, I am not a hoarder, lol.

What coolant do you use? Does it go bad if you don’t use it regularly?
@tommynordin2484 I use OakfloDSY 4100 Blue. I get it from MSC, and no, it doesn't go bad. It evaporates, though. My coolant system is only 10 gallons, so if I don't use it for a few months, I have to add a few gallons. Thanks for the comment, question!
Nice work! Thanks for sharing this info!
I guess it has to go unsaid as to why you need to do this in the first place. 😮💨I've heard stories about Suburban though...

I still have a prism like that one I got from you "rough scraped" which I need to finish. Not really sure I can make it better though. 😂

Great information and advice for anybody who is fortunate enough to own a buy ex I’ve been keeping my eyes out for quite a while. I just don’t show up where I’m looking.
The last 2 I bought were in Ohio. This one came from Massillon and was worth the drive even though it was damaged. Problems like this one are always an opportunity to learn. Thanks for the comment brother.
What are the dimensions of the giant surface plate on the right? Otherwise you’re Scrapping is beautiful. Working height is important for fatigue with your experience. It doesn’t surprise me.
Hi Kimber. That granite is 12 inches thick, 4 feet wide, and 8 feet long. It was tricky getting in here without a fork lift. I managed to keep all of my fingers and limbs that day. It was a good day.😊
Man that table must weight about what 1,2 tons? Realy nice, mines just 1x1 foot baby stone 😅 @@OtherBrotherDarylSmith
@@fearlyenrage I think it was about 5000 pounds, lol.
@@OtherBrotherDarylSmith 😳 very heavy. I could have gotten a almost similar but somewhat thinner plate for free. But i have my shop in the subfloor of a fabric so noway to get it down there 😂
The vises are a neat idea, I guess that twisting caused by the vises wouldnt matter as you are printing your part out of the vise? Charles
@465maltbie I clamp the part with all of the swivel locks loosened to eliminate as much twist as possible. Plus, I don't over tighten the vises. That's a great observation though, Charles. Thanks for the comment!
I have the old Blue model EL-7 I think it is. I picked it up second hand for $150 back in 1997. So far it has not crapped out on me. It doesn't get used much. I always wanted to take it apart and service it. Now I can. Thanks for sharing. Ken
