well spoilers at the bottom: Since commader walters does unfortunately die in sonic 3, i think captain rockwell will take over and i think she will play a bigger role in the future. i mean cmon, no way they bringing krysten ritter for one movie!? i feel like they should also do what they did for shadow. keanu reeves was in sonic 1(tom and maddie with sonic were watching speed which had keanu) and then he voices shadow. they should do the same for krysten, make her voice rouge the bat(if she ever appears) but she also plays her character of captain rockwell. jim carrey played 2 characters too so they should do that for rouge and captain rockwell

Metal Sonic will probably be set up in the shadows of 4 and will be the main villain of 5. Mephiles will be the main villain of 4 as it serves as a part 2 of shadows story.

personally, I don’t think characters like rouge Amy and silver simply because I feel like they should start off with the Prominent classic roster which includes the chaotix and superstars doesn’t count Amy was not that important in the classic games and even then, the characters, I said wouldn’t make sense to show up in the franchise yet is simply because I feel like we’re not ready cuz is Amy still having an identity crisis, silver hardly exist and rouge… well.. we don’t talk about that

me personally I love this and the one thing I’ll change is that instead of silver being after just Sonic, he should be after team Sonic and shadow, and silver should be a force to be reckoned with and I lowkey think the knuckles show should tease the villain chaos since you said the show is going to have the master emerald as the focus and then the shadow series or movie should tease mephiles and mephiles should tease that he’s sending someone to kill Shadow and Team Sonic and that will set up Sonic Movie 4 but in Sonic Movie 5 mephiles should want to summon the villain chaos and then movie 6 mephiles should be the endgame

Edit: I forgot to add, I was bummed out when I saw Gerald in the trailer, but then I thought of something. What if he was a villain, but that villain transformed into Gerald to act like him. He was also smiling Evil like when he hugged Eggman/Robotnik in the trailer.

Nah tbh the most logical option would be the chaotix, they appear in heroes, which takes place after SA2, not only that but a heroes movie would be perfect for marketing, you got literally everyone’s favorite character all in one movie, which would be Sonic’s endgame, everyone teaming against overlord. If they were to introduce metal sonic it’d have to be neo metal sonic for it to make sense (neo comes in heroes, after sa2) Silver it’s definitely too early for, silver could be in sonic 5 kinda like a way to end off the OG era of sonic
