    That darn swing arm is 1" or so too short. I too have a "short swing arm" model that is about 8 years old now. I made a plastic ring from day 1 that keeps the filter from collapsing and it is fool proof. I made it out of leftover plastic plumbing strap 5/8" wide, the kind with small screw holes in it. I cut a length of a sufficient circumference 1-1/2" overlap to be able to staple it together so that it fits into the filter basket about 1/3 the way down keeping the paper filter from folding over and grounds from working their way into the carafe. I rinse it out daily along with the empty filter basket and I am good to go for the next time. Not for nothing... there seemed to be double the amount of coffee grounds in that filter for 12 cup capacity. It's like she was setting herself up for failure just to prove a point, yet I could be wrong as to the amount of grounds in the filter basket.

    We tried an expensive Ninja that has the shower head, a cone filter, and a slightly higher brew temp than Mr. Coffee. Our Mr. Coffee brews as shown in this video and has a much better taste than the Ninja. I guess this means that the Mr. Coffee gets it done in spite of the fact that it looks like a fail OR maybe we just like crappy brewed coffee, lol.

    This still applies in 2020...add the Mr. Coffee circular filter to the top of the basket and the water will disperse evenly...or at least better.

  • @legionXTS

    This machine is supposed to have the Mr. Coffee water filtration disc (google it) that sits on the top of the basket. It then spreads the water over the basket properly. Kind of like Mr. Coffee's idea of an ink cartridge; the machine don't work right unless you keep buying their cartridges.

    I wandered how long to boil this, I tried once, and i boiled it for too long. Medium heat for 2 to 3 mins, cool, then bottle. All the syrups including grenadine, have so much dyes, and artificial crap and preservatives in them, nice to have a clean product. Great video.

    The more expensive coffee machines have a showerhead water dispenser into the grounds...my old old mr coffee died thank god...bought a new basic $10 black friday special...so decided to make it better....I took a tuna fish can, punched holes evenly all across the can....placed it on top of the grounds before turning the machine on ..this machine has the ability to pull the pot out and pour a cup....so i start the brewing cycle without the pot in...by doing this, all the grounds get saturated...carefull to watch the water level only dispenses 1 cup...then insert the carraffe....all the grounds are now saturated, and the remainder of the brewing water dispenses evenly .....DAMN.. I' M A GENIUS. .(cheapscate👍😃) $10 showerhead coffee maker👍👍👍😃

    This is NOT the pot to buy if you are a frequent coffee drinker. Today's brew left grounds all over the counter, as the water in the basket didn't do what even a $10. pot would do. The bells and whistles include a 5-beep alert to let you 'think' it's through brewing. However there's a basket full of water left to brew. SMH...Again, this is NOT the pot to buy. As noted, it offers too much for too little. I disagree with those who say cost more is better. I have a $10. pot that's lasted a dozen years with daily brewing. And, I'm glad I still have it; because, at least it still brews a perfect cup of coffee. Thanks for this video. I'm disappointed that a name brand such as this brews coffee poorly. After seven years, they still have not improved the flaw of this product. I can't imagine bothering to return it for something else. But, who knows, maybe I will. That's the only way they will "know" the product is less than adequate. Peace.

    I also noticed this issue and realized I was not getting all of my coffee utilized in the brew. I have a different Mr. Coffee but the basket looks the same. Mine came with a flat filter that fits over the basket. I've found that if you use the filter, the water DOES get evenly distributed. So I advise using the filter, even if you don't care to filter the water, as it will solve this problem. You can use the same filter indefinitely if you don't want to buy replacements. (The instructions say to replace them every few months.) Just rinse it now and then.

    It's not "lower" vs "higher" end. It's Mr Coffee. It's a flaw in design and they've had it this way for quite a lot of years. I dealt with it for almost a decade until the thing died. However one thing this shower head to the side thing really fails at is sometimes it will fill up and over the side of the filter. The filter will collapse and then you find coffee mud/grounds in your decanter. Very annoying.

      flexor212000 glad to know it's just. It ours. This happens a lot in this coffee maker. I thought for some reason it was the filters but after using different brand filters it's definitely the coffee pot.

      I've had this problem numerous times. The water coming out grabs the filter and folds it down allowing all the grounds to just go into the pot. Any suggestions? It's a $30 Mr coffee programmable coffee pot. Bought it brand new a couple weeks ago.

    Basket-style filters are not very good in general... Cone shaped ones gives more flavor because the water travels through the coffee powder more evenly and all the powder will get soaked in water for a longer time, witch means that more flavor will be absorbed.

    Another trick with this machine is if your machine isnt getting all the way up to temperature, try swinging the shower head over the open tank and let the coffee machine heat and recirculate the water to pre-heat the water before swinging the head over the basket.

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed 2 года назад

      Water temp right when it starts to brew is about 177, then after a minute or so it heats up to about 188. I pre-heated the reservoir water to about 130 using the method you describe, and the initial perk temp was still only about 177. Maybe if you preheated more, it might help? What I did was pre-heat for the amount of time it took me to get the coffee out of the cabinet and scoop it into the basket. I had a watt meter on it and it was only drawing about 845 watts when I pre-heated vs 890 normally which must mean that the coffee maker dials it back some when the reservoir water is warmer.

  • @ultramegabob2
    @ultramegabob2 12 лет назад

    I have the exact same coffee maker, it has a valve on the basket that shuts the dripping off if you pull the pot out before it is done brewing. What I do is start brewing without the pot in place, that way the water fills the basket and saturates the grounds after the basket is about 3/4 and the grounds are fully saturated, I then slide the pot in under the valve and the coffee then pours into the pot. I hope I explained this so that it makes sense...
