2011 Honda CR-Z K20Z3 Swap Part 2: Pulling the Drivetrain
Part 2 of the K Series Swap Series (gotta be a better name for that) is already here! In this video we are pulling out the old engine and transmission through the top of the engine bay, as well as removing the exhaust piping and IMA battery and cables. I've gone into a lot of detail here on the steps needed to remove everything, but if I missed anything or you have additional questions please leave a comment! Stay tuned for Part 3 where I start touching up the new K20 and prepping it to drop in.

      The shifter is HR's CR-Z specific model, however the cables do have to be different from CR-Z cables since the lengths and distance from bushing to bracket are different. A custom transmission bracket may be required... Will dive into that in part 4 or 5.

    Have been following your videos on the CR-Z from the start and find them so interesting and informative, Im amazed at your knowledge and attention to detail. I have here in the UK a 2014/15 CR-Z S Sport on 48k and I intend to keep it as close to original as possible apart from maybe upgrading the headlights and head unit to an up to date satnav with CarPlay. What I find most interesting is you showing me the guts of this car. Can't wait to see the next instalment.

    Hey i really want to get to know car anatomy and i don't know where exactly to start

    • @cr.zpirit
      @cr.zpirit 14 дней назад

      If you're talking about knowing what/where all the different parts are, it just takes personal experience! Essentially everything I have learned has been from hands on work or personal research in service guides and other YT videos over the last few years. Many things can be deduced by what they are connected to. In fact a lot of the hoses and such I mentioned in the video, I didn't know what I was removing right up until I started pulling them and seeing where they went. Many of the fluid systems (brake, clutch, coolant, etc.) have caps on the fill tanks so you can easily identify the specific system they go to. Start following the tubes and you'll end up at more components for those specific systems. Other than that, just take some time fixing or replacing minor maintenance parts and making mental maps of everything you've explored so far. It is important to remember that not every vehicle has the same parts in the same location/orientation/style, so it's better to understand the general way things connect and interact rather than trying to look for the same size or shape of part every time. I've been working on my own vehicles for over a decade now - experience comes with time, but don't get intimidated by how much there is to learn! Have fun with it :)

    Friend help me please, the IMA appeared on the dashboard and the car does not turn on, now I bought a new battery and it turned on, but it only served for a couple of hours and it no longer turns on, and we measured the alternator voltage and it is charging well, yes The 12v battery is new and the alternator charges well, and IMA appears on the dashboard, is it the same reason? The electric battery fan? 🙏🙏

    • @cr.zpirit
      @cr.zpirit Месяц назад

      The 12V battery in the engine bay and the hybrid (IMA) battery are two different systems, if you have an IMA issue replacing the 12V battery in front will probably not change anything. You need to get a code reader to see the specific IMA fault code you have, it will describe in more detail what the problems are. The CR-Z does not have a traditional alternator, only the IMA motor on the engine to recharge the battery system.

I've got one torn apart on my desk right now trying to follow the RGB traces for the 3 modes color display so I can tap into it for other interior lights (with some sort of middleman circuit so I don't fry the board) I don't see a video about that on your channel, I assume you used some circuitry you have for the headlights / tail lights and wired it up to the cluster? Swap certainly depends on what engines are easily or cheaply available near you, power goals, etc. For this winter we are going with a pretty much stock K20Z3 from the 8th gen Si. This is one of the simpler routes in terms of swap parts and wiring as far as I am aware. But next winter we may build it out for more power or do a frankenswap with a K24.

    • @cr.zpirit

      @@ygggu6767ef I would strongly recommend it. I did a coilover install on my Fit a couple years ago without doing that, and couldn't fit a key in the center to hold the shock. I spent a long time trying to torque down the top end and ended up rounding off several nuts in the process. It doesn't take much extra time at all. Just some plastic clips and the wiper bolts. For the little effort it makes accessing the top hardware so much easier.
