Dan's Garage Builds
США
Добавлен 27 дек 2022
Primarily a channel about a regular guy with a regular garage, trying to get a field-find 1960 Ford F100 to the Carlisle Ford Nationals in 2024 for the 70th reunion of the Ford Y-Block engine. I don't pretend to be an expert, just a normal guy working in his garage. Other videos may include basic repairs to my friends' and family's cars, amateur welding projects, and working on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma. Basically, this channel is about the builds that happen in my garage. Welcome to Dan's Garage Builds!
Why won't this 1963 Ford Y-block start? Prep for Carlisle Ford Nationals 2023 - E6
I couldn't get spark the last time I tried to start this 1963 Ford 292 Y-block. So I bought a new ignition switch in hopes that will be the final piece to getting this engine running. Unfortunately, as cool as getting the dash to light up and the engine to turn over with a key, I still don't have a running engine.
I guess I gotta learn about timing!
My goal with this field-find 1960 Ford F100 is to drive it from Utah to Pennsylvania for the 2024 Carlisle Ford Nationals and their 70th Anniversary for the Ford Y-Block. Can I rescue this F100 after it sat in a field for 20+ years, and drive it over 2000 miles? I'm planning on it, but subscribe to this channel and we'll find out together!

How to fix a 95-00 Toyota Tacoma broken tail light
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Год назад
The taillight on my 2000 (1st Gen) Toyota Tacoma daily driver recently went out. Since I don't want me or my wife to get a ticket, I decided to see what the problem was and fix it. Most taillight repair videos deal with the easy fixes, but on the rare occasion when a bulb replacement doesn't fix your issue, I'll share what I did to locate the real problem. Here's a quick guide that is fairly un...
This 292 Ford Y-block was FREE for a good reason... I disassemble my first engine!
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.Год назад
When trying to find a path forward with my field-find 1960 Ford F100, I was given a free 292 y-block. I thought I was SUPER lucky! Gut punch #1, it doesn't turn over. I've never disassembled an engine before, so watch me discover rust, gunk, and a few bugs as I figure out why this engine was free. Plus, I get the benefit of learning how to take apart an engine! Thoughts on my new channel intro?...
Will this 1963 Ford Y-Block V8 start? The road to 2024 Carlisle Ford Nationals - E4

My dad joins me in the garage to try and get the replacement engine for my 1960 Ford F100 to start. We try a couple different methods, but ultimately we can't get the distributor and coil to produce a spark. So, I have more diagnosing and reading to do! My goal with this field-find 1960 Ford F100 is to drive it from Utah to Pennsylvania for the 2024 Carlisle Ford Nationals and their 70th Annive...
Reconnecting the 1960 Ford F100 wiring - E3

Contact me via dansgaragebuilds@gmail.com The engine bay in this field-find 1960 Ford F100 was all sorts of disconnected when I got it into my garage. After removing the front clip and the original engine, this video is my efforts at trying to piece it all back together. Since this is my first big vehicle project, I'm relying on every resource possible. In this video I'm able to get a lot of th...
Field-find 1960 Ford F100 front clip removal - E2
Просмотров 561Год назад
What started as me trying to pull the front end apart in pieces, ended with me just removing the whole front end. I had to remove all this in order to pull the engine out. I was amazed at how good of condition everything was after sitting in a field for 25 years!
Rescuing a 1960 Ford F100 that’s been sitting for 20+ years - E1

A little intro timelapse and an outro for my 1960 Ford F100 field-find. This truck was sitting in a field for over 25 years! Like and subscribe to see what I've done with it over the last year and half, what my plans are for the future, and if I can make it to the 2024 Carlisle Ford Nationals Y-Block 70th Anniversary Reunion. I put a steel crank in my 57 292. Big trucks had the steel forged cranks. The 292 came from a 57 t-bird. Sweet engine. Number all your parts. Clean all the bolt holes of gunk. There sre ways to pressurize the top oiling system. I loved rebuilding my 292. 🤩
Like your channel. I'll add to my favorites
I’m looking for a front engine mount for a 55 Ford I am in it, installing it in a 53 Merk curry😮
Where did you get your ignition cylinder switch?
Great Vid Yeah looks like the harness breaks right by the split on the frame it packed really tight all the wires just snap off at once
Check the resistor by the distributor
So many opportunities to screw yourself on assembly of a WHY Block. I think the engineers were on crack. Just finished my first build of a 292. Made so many notes along way. And really won't hurt my feelings if I never need them again.
Truck water pumps have a bigger shaft too Car y block are smaller shaft
There are welding rod for cast iron
Be careful if you put that y botnek together how you time the chain in the front it's not like a Chevy and you'll mess it up
Love anything Y BLOCK
Build it.
Can’t wait to see this truck up and running. Keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks Kevin, I'm hoping to get back on this and releasing videos again pretty soon.
Slowly but surely, Keep going ! We have faith !
Thank you! I'm hoping to get around to a compression test in the next week or so. That will help me understand the engine condition better.
The rubber insulator on the Y Block crank damper is known to deteriorate and cause the outer ring to slip making the true TDC not accurate. It would be best to bring #1 cylinder to TDC verified by valve movement, then confirm that the distributor rotor is just about spot on with #1 on the cap.
Thank you!
What a cliffhanger!
Ha ha, thanks. I was really rushed trying to get this episode out, so I didn’t get a chance to dig into the timing issues yet.
Thanks for watching! If you have tips on how to figure out the timing on a 292 y-block, I'd love to hear about it. If you're down to stop by and help me out in person here in Utah County, just hit me up at dansgaragebuilds@gmail.com. Much appreciated!
Reminder, if there's any of these old, rusty parts you want, just shoot me an email at dansgaragebuilds@gmail.com! Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing.
I’m interested lol, I will shoot you an email tomorrow
I just had the 292 in my '60 Edsel Villager rebuilt. First run since 1967!
Ooh, a 292 in an Edsel, that's absolutely worth rebuilding and keeping!
Awesome deconstruction
Seriously, thank you, I'm sure I made a ton of mistakes, but I'm just loving diving into this.
Ford truck with a Yblock is right up my alley. Subscribed!
Thank you! I'm just dying to get this truck back on the road after it sat for 20+ years.
Subbed!
Thank you!
