Please don't paint it!!!!! I'm sure there's a way to fix it so that It doesn't come out blochy. You might have do some more sanding. Maybe put some sort of chemical treatment on it. Please don't paint out beautiful old wood.

You need a Jack Russell Terrier trust me you will be amazed by these dogs small compact sweet nature but were breed to get reed of rats.

You just gotta sand a bit deeper. The old soot and stains/paint have been absorbed.

John Bear gave this tip for stripping paint from carvings. Make a paste of stripper and saw dust, using a small brush to work paste in. It worked great for him.

It's a beautiful mantle, great job! Are you going to refinish (take off the paint) from the wide and tall floorboard trim too? I have stain on my wide/tall floorboards, that I really love.

My mantle is almost an exact match for yours. It was a kit, it looks like yours might also be a kit. Mine is solid cherry and cherry plywood. Ours is stained and not painted. We got is about 30 years ago so that might not be the original mantle/ surround. No matter it is still lovely.

Recommendation for the next time...Varathane makes good products, but some woods are just naturally splotchy. And crazy layers of paint likely painted over old finishes with not much prep & the chemicals to remove them don't help. Using shellac (without wax in it) instead of a preconditioner/sealant often works to even out the wood grain. Shellac can be applied under stain & finishes. I usually put it on with an old piece of t-shirt instead of a brush, so I can ensure it's going into the grain--not a thick coat but not a thin one either. It was a common practice to use shellac this way 100s of years ago & still works today.

Wow! That was a lot of work. So worth it though. Looking forward to whatever next!

I just can’t watch any further. That light fixture that “is not the vibe” is gorgeous! I think this person would have been better off with a modern cookie cutter home.

The tile on the fireplace is highly sought after and that is a coal fuel fireplace and the summer cover. It is such a shame when people don’t realize the treasures they have and do away with them.

I love your channel and congratulations on your new arrival. I did the same thing to my walls doing stars and that if you find that the white it doesn't work in some spots just flick it with your dark blue and it will tone down the white. Add some very pale yellow to the stars. The constellations would be awesome

My personal opinion, flick blue over some spots that are harsher, but clear glow paint and do just the constellations (maybe a few stars) in that! I had that on my wall and loved it growing up!
