Hi, regarding to the "48 HOURS LATER", does it mean 48 hours without feeding the bird?
@@raysirchang Sorry if that was confusing, no I was just busy the next day i still fed her i just didnt take her out and train like the previous day
@@karvinjones4246 Didn't you reduce the quantity of chicks? I'm curious how you increase her motivation to fly to you.
@@raysirchang yes I reduced the amount i fed her the day previous so that she would be hungry and more motivated to fly to me the next day
❤❤
Look at that beautiful boy!! (I think this is filmed in Indiana because of the caption) honestly all birds of Indiana are amazing!!
@@CoffeeThatProtogen Correct! This was at the Indiana Falconers Picnic. And yes all the birds were gorgeous thanks for your comment!
Your sponsor approved that mews? It's much too small for a red tail. They should be in a 8x8 at absolute minimum. The chicken wire is also very unsafe.
Thanks for your comment since this video posted I added more bars across the window and now she is tethered. That was a sort of test period for free lofting. My sponsor approved of the mew. It has two perchs and big window she can hop/ fly with her wings fully extended and go to her bathing pan the video just makes it look smaller
Absolutely beautiful!!
The phrase you were looking for was opportune moment, not ample. Ample means plentiful.
Noted thankyou
Great video! And awesome Kestrel! Id just go easier on the music in your following videos, its just a little distracting.
@@linkh200 thanks for your suggestion will take it into consideration next video
I had a goshawk once they are so powerful and inteligent
the hawks we got up in Georgia are 3 times bigger but it’s still a pretty bird
Beautiful!!

Awesome
thats a beautiful bird right there!
@@ReaganTilden thankyou!
Where are you from you look somewhat young where I live we have pretty strict rules on keeping raptors although I would love to have a red tail or saker just to fly
@@vraptork181 I am from the united states, the only age requirement we have for being an apprentice falconer is 12 and the general class falconers must be 16
@@karvinjones4246 appreciate it
Nice
Absolutely lovely birds
@@leethornley2480 Glad you think so, Gods creation is surely stunning,
This is quite different to how it is in Germany! The first step to become a falconer for me here was a 3-week hunting class (7-8 hrs a day, 6 days a week, 3 weeks) and then a test that took 3 days (written, oral-practical, gun handling & shooting, which is optional for falconers). The class alone is nearly $2000. IF you pass that test you can then take the falconry class (7-9 days) followed by another oral-practical test - another $1000. Then you can start with the mew, equipment, and so on until you're ready to get your bird from a breeder (no trapping in the wild except for goshawks under very strict conditions you're not likely to be able to fulfill). I am so interested in the comparisons between requirements to become a falconer in Germany & the US! In Germany it's more expensive, but in the US it's more guided (the sponsor aspect). In Germany it is best to find a mentor, but not required.
@@harrishawklerinDE wow that is very expensive and extensive as far as tests and payments for tests go that crazy! Very interesting to hear thanks.
Hi! I just found your channel today. I'm a falconer in Germany and this journey here is quite different. My question for you is about finding a sponsor - in such a big country, what does one do if there is no falconer close enough to you to work together often? Is it possible to have a long-distance sponsor? I'm enjoying watching you work with your birds!
@@harrishawklerinDE Thanks for your comment. Here in the US we have Falconers in every state except Hawaii and in my state we have multiple Falconer in each county so for us at least it is not a problem with finding a sponsor close to you. I dont know about other countries however. Super cool that you are watching from Germany glad you enjoyed the videos!
@@karvinjones4246 Thanks for your answer! I'm originally from Wisconsin and moved to Germany 12 years ago. I got interested in falconry here and had no idea there were falconers in the US! About a year ago I learned that there's even a club in WI, but before that the closest I'd found was in Michigan. That's so great that there are falconers in every state! Keep up the good work. 🙂 Subscribing...
@@harrishawklerinDE thanks man means a ton!
so in the us you can only chose between a kestrel and a redtail? how are people getting harris hawks and golden eagles?
@@strawberry_hawk As an apprentice you can only choose A red Tail or a Kestrel after you progress through the system of general Falconer and maybe even master falconer you can get other birds like those you mentioned. You have two years as an apprentice before you become a general class falconer.
this was helpful. thank you!
I love birbs hes or she.. looks so handsome and polite like its trying to understand you. They looks so calm . No im not a bird specialist .Cool
Nice job. You covered a lot of the basics very clearly. Are you a general or apprentice right now? Keep it up, I'll keep an eye on your channel.
@@azhawking Thankyou I am beginning my second year as an apprentice. I try to only cover topics I know about and make sure to make it plain im just giving an example of how i do it and not how it must be done by everyone.
@karvinjones4246 you are doing a great job. Are you intermewing, or did you release your raptor? I noticed no one ever goes over intermewing very well on RUclips.
@@azhawking Thankyou, As of right now I have a Red Tailed Hawk I had a kestrel in the past and my brother just released his kestrel but we did have them inter-mewed for couple months pretty successfully with a wall and door separating them and they were also tethered. Now that the kestrel is gone I free loft the Red Tail maybe in the future when he traps his next bird I can show the setup. Thanks for your comments means alot.
Interesting!!
Hola soy de republica Dominicana 🎉🎉
Is there any type of Falconry done down there?
Great video
@@LauraJohnson-xg5le Thankyou means alot
How about taking the state written test and getting the game warden to inspect your mew (hawk house) and sign off on it? I practiced falconry for 10 years in California, that’s the procedure here.
You are absolutely correct this was a very simple version I just did a new video that goes far more in depth.
Very helpful!!
Cover towel I had not thought of.
That is something my sponsor told me helps them let go of it easier because they cannot see it anymore.
Going going gone!
Cool, always learn something, feeding hole, nice.

Thankyou sir
I like to watch your videos
Thanks man that means alot appreciate it
Congratulations bro
Glad you not walking in with food on your glove anymore!
It wasnt the best method for sure
It’s so interesting on how much dedication it takes to take care of a bird, good job!
About how much do you feed her each day during the summer when shes not hunting?
Well I feed her day old chicks and I alternate between two and three chicks per day. Each chick weighs on average 1.3 ounces

Thank you for the info! I have been thinking hard about getting into this for a long time.
Glad the video was helpful
Growing up on a ranch in Western Washington Red Tails were abundant. I would spend hours watching them hunt the hay fields and soar on the bluff over our house. Once we witnessed a coyote and this very large Red Tail grabbing a rabbit and stealing it from each other ! They did this while moving across a hay field. It was a most amazing thing to witness. Like right out of Wild America or Disney. The coyote eventually took off with the prize. Boy was that hawk a handful for that coyote.
Thats pretty crazy. Insane to think a hawk was trying to compete with a coyote
She’s such a good girl!!
Yes she is Thankyou
