This is quite different to how it is in Germany! The first step to become a falconer for me here was a 3-week hunting class (7-8 hrs a day, 6 days a week, 3 weeks) and then a test that took 3 days (written, oral-practical, gun handling & shooting, which is optional for falconers). The class alone is nearly $2000. IF you pass that test you can then take the falconry class (7-9 days) followed by another oral-practical test - another $1000. Then you can start with the mew, equipment, and so on until you're ready to get your bird from a breeder (no trapping in the wild except for goshawks under very strict conditions you're not likely to be able to fulfill). I am so interested in the comparisons between requirements to become a falconer in Germany & the US! In Germany it's more expensive, but in the US it's more guided (the sponsor aspect). In Germany it is best to find a mentor, but not required.

Hi! I just found your channel today. I'm a falconer in Germany and this journey here is quite different. My question for you is about finding a sponsor - in such a big country, what does one do if there is no falconer close enough to you to work together often? Is it possible to have a long-distance sponsor? I'm enjoying watching you work with your birds!

Growing up on a ranch in Western Washington Red Tails were abundant. I would spend hours watching them hunt the hay fields and soar on the bluff over our house. Once we witnessed a coyote and this very large Red Tail grabbing a rabbit and stealing it from each other ! They did this while moving across a hay field. It was a most amazing thing to witness. Like right out of Wild America or Disney. The coyote eventually took off with the prize. Boy was that hawk a handful for that coyote.
