    I also have 2 UF8s and use Logic Pro. I always use 360 mode rather than DAW mode. Is there a way to set it up so that the left UF8 only has the channels on it and the right UF8 only has the track stacks (ie. busses) on there?

    • @thatlogicproguy

      I would use VCA’s or busses for this in Logic Pro to accomplish this. Remember that the SSL will follow which of the 3 mixer modes you are on.

    I'm still unsure about the difference between a zone and mode. My goal is to have two settings for my pads - one setting will be for drumming (which is the default) the other setting will be for triggering live loop scenes. I've tried setting it using the learn button on a new mode, but it just seems to overwrite and I can't switch between the two settings.

      Some could be thought of as the midi controller and modes as functions within those control surfaces. You are going to have trigger a mode change. I go over this in the series. Hope that helps. Cheers!

    Hi! Thanx for the video. I had this problem for a particular situation. I noticed that my project was very heavy, and I decided to create a 2.0 version to empty it out a bit and get back to work on it. (The reason I didn't do it all over again was because I already had templates ready to do some minor mastering.) To do That I deleted as you did both the tracks from the project and the existing tracks in the Audio folder. Result: the 'file not found' warning appeared. Do you know an alternative way to empty a project as I did, but without this Logic message appearing?

    • @thatlogicproguy
      @thatlogicproguy 4 дня назад

      Next time, you probably just want to clean up the session you have and use project alternatives instead. The “select unused” method probably works best as it mitigates confusion between file names and how those files connect/relate to the session. Hope I’m understanding you correctly. Best of luck!

    Sorry but this is not helpful for my situation at all. You don’t even show or explain the learn button that has 3 different lightings settings that even Apple doesn’t tell you what they mean. I am simply trying to g to assign 5 volume and 6 send to bus assignments on a launch XL midi mixer controller but they keep flipping to different assignments, and yes I am clicking on the learn button after the learn, and shutting down the controller surface each time but nothing works as it should. It seems like there is nobody giving all the info you need to make such a simple task work correctly. Sorry but this is so frustrating and I have been producing for over 30 years and using logic for over 20 years so not new to this, am I really that dumb…?

      Hey, I totally know how you feel. This is a frustrating subject due to the nature of the Mackie Protocol. I do cover the learn function on Video 2 of the series. I’ll tag the playlist here. @@thatlogicproguy ok thanks. So do you mean I’ll have to open assignments and manually switch the mode when I want to use my midi controller for just music creation. Sorry this is all so confusing. So I have the Akai MK3 and it’s extremely limited in regards to knobs and faders as it has no faders, which you already know. So I’m trying to setup this technique you have shown to assign my pads to banking to the pan version, or the volume version. So once I’ve assigned my pads to change the actual modes, how would I stop that function for changing modes so I can use them normally? For example, my top four pads change modes to pan, volume, and eq plugin and a compressor plugin. But I want to now go into DMD and have full functionality of all pads. How do I prevent the top four pads now changing modes?

    Question, please. Is it possible to custom assign tracks to faders across multiple banks? I have a large (>50) number of tracks/channels in a project, and I am using folder/summing stacks to hierarchically organize them. For example, I have 3 mics that blend the kick and them sum to a kick stack. The stack is Ch1, and the individual mics are on Ch2, Ch3, and Ch4. Then I have both a top and bottom snare mic that sum to a snare stack. These are on Ch5-7. This continues for the rest of the kit, and then for other instruments, well beyond ch50. I want to map my controller faders just to the summing stacks, so fader 1 would be ch1 for the kick stack, fader 2 would be ch 5 for the snare stack, etc. This seems possible within the first bank of 8 physical faders on my control surface, but what about when I bank right with a multiple of 8? Now I'm going to need physical fader 1 to map to another stack further down the virtual board, say ch 15, for example, and so on. Is it possible to do this, and what would be the approach for doing so? Disclaimer: I have zero experience with controllers, but I have just ordered an X-Touch and am hoping I will be able to do this. Thank you in advance!

    • @thatlogicproguy
      @thatlogicproguy Месяц назад

      You can do this but would certainly need time to set it up. I go through the core ideas in this series. I also do consultation visits for folks in the greater L.A area and over Zoom as well. Best of Luck!

    • @hammincheese1310
      @hammincheese1310 Месяц назад

      @thatlogicproguy thank you! I was mostly just asking if it is possible and not specifically requesting you to dive in. I am simply relieved that it will be achievable and that I don't need to overhaul my track/channel mapping template just to accommodate limitations of the control surface interface. It would be considerably helpful to know if I need to use Modes and Zones to achieve this as opposed to simple by-fader learning in Expert View. It seems like I'm going to need a Mode for each virtual bank of 8 faders and then in Expert View I manually teach the faders for that Mode. Then instead of setting up a left/right multiplier to cycle between each virtual bank of 8 faders I have to actually switch Modes. Is that the general idea? Just looking for a yes/no here. Thank you!

    • @thatlogicproguy
      @thatlogicproguy Месяц назад

      Certainly possible. Just take your time and remember to save your clist in case something goes adrift. Let me know how you get along. Control Surfaces is “no man’s” land. Mastering Assistant is available beginning in Logic 10.8 (latest available version 10 is 10.8.1), which works on Intel CPUs running the minimum required MacOS . If you have older Mac you can use OCLP Open Core Legacy Patcher to run a newer/current MacOS, and thereby then run a newer/current version of (Intel-compatible) Logic. (Performance will depend on your older Mac's CPU, RAM, etc., but you'd be surprised how well older Macs can do...)

    Having used Logic with chord track for a week - the chord track keeps changing edits I do in midi tracks - like an annoying spell checker. That feature is not for me - I have my own ideas after 60+ years of composing music.

    I really like this a LOT, thanks SO much. Sometimes I had a song song already nearly complted and couldn't figure out how to sync new tracks to it. So, I exported the main track. Set it up exactly like you did in new sessions, set Tempo to "adapt", adding all my percussion tracks then exported those and reimported those back into my original song (which already had 16 tracks of live performance). There were too may track of different sources in my original and every time I tried different tempo mapping techniques (so I could quantize a few live percussion tracks to a live acoustic guitar - percussion is not my strong suit) it through EVERYTHING off. So your solution and my work around saved me. THANKS!!! Subbed!

    This was a really good explanation. Thanks for this. I used to be an Ableton user but switched to Logic Pro years ago. I love how it has evolved from 10-15 years ago but I feel that Ableton still beat Logic in MIDI mapping. On Ableton, I could map various parameters (high cut filter, a wave table from serum, a reverb wet/dry, a compressor threshold) into just one knob on my MIDI keyboard without a hassle. I would hit record and off I went automating everything with just one knob twist without having to switch between instances. Do you know if there a way to do that in Logic?

    • @thatlogicproguy
      @thatlogicproguy 2 месяца назад

      🙏 I would map all parameters in question to one knob/slider using a Dynamic Fader. Just remember that it has to be selected and in focus : Logic Pro Tutorial - Control Surfaces Support: Dynamic or Index Fader? Lock Parameters using THIS!!! ruclips.net/video/wIqvZAQB_a0/видео.html

    I've only been using Logic for a year but have used computers for decadess and I have never encountered a more convoluted, difficult, counter-intuitive and very, very, very frustrating procedure as the whole control surface assignment set up thing. The user manual might as well be written in soup and it seems that for all the Logic tutorials out there no one really gives a simple and understandable hands-on followable demonstration of what should be a quick and easy thing to do. Except for yourself. Please do more of these simple, short and very accessible videos. Thank you,

    • @thatlogicproguy

      Does not work that way sir. You can assign the Chords on the “Chord Track” first and then ask the midi to follow the chord track. I’ll be talking about this on my next video.

      @@thatlogicproguy it would be ideal to be able to drop midi chords or record real time playing chords. But as it is, it doesn’t serve a productive purpose. The time it takes to input each chord progression for an entire song would is a waste because you can record your progressions bass and melodies at a more productive time frame. Imagine writing an entire composition by limiting only writing the notes and chords. This design is kick in the face to musicians wanting backing bass and keys. This function has been in Cubase since 2016.

    I don't agree that it all sounds manufactured. It CAN sound like that if you allow it to but with loose quantising, velocity adjustments and special attention to the humanize function, you can lift it above the dull, lifeless stuff beginners come out with. It's like anything, it's how you apply yourself to the task. With enthusiasm and attention to detail you can make ordinary become extraordinary.

    It falls flat... What would really be useful is to be able to drag a midi track up to the Chord track and have the Chord track auto populate the chords. Also, to be able to lock a midi input to the chord track would be awesome for creating in-key melodies. Oh well, maybe next time.

      You can definitely do something similar if the Apple Loops contain the chordal information within their metadata. Your second point sounds awesome and someone already did it.
