    I think as with Christianity an organized religion evolved after both the Buddha and the Christ left us . These religions in many respects become almost alien to the teacher. Seek the true message outside of the religion. There is true beauty and knowledge there.

    5:08 You are absolutely correct, the translation from Bhuddhist Hybrid Sanskrit to Tibetan language is top notch. It is said, the translation took almost 300 years😮😮😮. Whole, Empire was involved in the process. sometime, i really think that, those great Indian Bhuddhist scholars and Maha-Siddas already had a future vision that soon Bhuddhism will disappear from India. Tibetan language is very flexible, just change prefix and suffix, you can get a new word.

    Thank you for your beautiful video. I am oriented towards Chinese Pure Land Buddhism. There they say that Master Shando laid the foundation for this movement. Or can it all be traced back to Japan? And there is also confusion in the various organizations about the number of times you should chant Amitabha Buddha's name. Some people say that this should be done as often as possible. Also, some people say that this should be done at the moment of death. Otherwise you will not enter Amitabha's Pure Land. Can you please explain this? Thanks in advance!🙏Namo Amitabha Buddha ❤

    You can't "think" "yourself" to enlightenment. Thoughts are like passing clouds in the sky. They arise, they exist and then disapears.Jyst observe until there is no separation between the observer and the observed....until duality disapears.Relax in the ultimate nature of mind.... the dharmadhatu.

    What a great presentation that tries to get out of Western biases. My comments would be: 1. Dukkha translated as stress" is strange when you consider it's used also to refer to physical pain (ie dukkha and sukha). I think this is an overcorrection by Western teachers. The Buddha in the Dharmachakkra sutra means Samsara sucks, Mahayana says he actually means our perceptions make it suck, neither is saying it's hunky dory. 2. The fifth precept means no alcohol. In Japan it's looser because of the Meiji reformation/Kamakura sects, not because it's interpreted to mean something different. Of course alcohol in food and medicine doesn't count, so there's some fudging that went on even before Meiji (i.e. "wisdom water" in winter). 3. Traditionally monastics in East Asia were Buddhist vegetarian, which often meant vegan. Again, that's relaxed today in Japan because of the Meiji reformation/Kamakura sects, not lower expectations. Major monasteries of Heian and Nara sects still only serve vegetarian food (usually vegan or lactovegetarian.)

  • @joa8593
    @joa8593 Месяц назад

    It's too bad the discussion of Kamakura Buddhism excluded the revival of Nara Buddhism. For example, the Shingon-Risshu sect sought to bring back the Vinaya patrimoksha of the Risshu sect. This adds perspective to the idea that the established sects and other new sects were decadent rather than just out of touch, even though today these movements largely died out for political reasons.

    Mahayana Buddhism teaches the same universe as the real one, too. The three thousand worlds (三千世界) have a hierarchical structure, the same as the real universe with its galaxies, galaxy clusters, and bubble structures. The space of the universe is infinite, and time flows from the infinite past to the future. In the dust-like world (十方微塵世界) where the law of causality (因果応報) rules, there are countless Buddha lands (十方浄土). This indicates the existence of countless terrestrial planets. The real person, the Buddha, visited a world in the west, that is, the world of stars the sun sets, and he spoke about it himself because he wanted to talk about his wonderful experience. (無問自説) In Esoteric Buddhism (密教), the personification of the universe, Vairocana Buddha (大日如来), teaches the flowering of Buddha nature through compassion and wisdom. We are born in the universe, so we are part of Vairocana and are Buddhas in born. (即身成仏) The Avatamsaka Sutra (華厳経) preaches the truth of the universe, that one is many and many is one (一即多・多即一), that the universe exists in dust or the pores of the skin, and the fractal multiverse. The time may come when we can attain the state of Buddha of sāgara-mudrā-samādhi (海印三昧) in a laboratory. In this infinite universe, the Eternal Buddha (久遠仏) of the Lotus Sutra (法華経) shows the existence of an infinite cycle of life together monotheism. God creates man, man attains enlightenment and becomes Buddha, the wisdom of Buddha fully realizes the essence of life, and when Buddha uses his wisdom to synthesize DNA and man appears, the Buddha becomes a God. God, man, and Buddha are syncretized, and this continues to rotate through compassion. From the above, I think Buddhism is a teaching of the path to awakening which came from the sky. (梵天勧請)

    Thank you for the interesting video! If I may, the correct Sanskrit pronunciation of Shūnyatā is “shoonyataa “, with the last syllable elongated and emphasised, not the “a” in “ya”. That is a short “a”. In Devanagari it is spelt as follows: शून्यता. Also, the jñ in prajñā is actually pronounced closer to ngya (hard one this!). The Devanagari is ज्ञ. There is no actual “ja” sound. Think of a nasalized “gya” . Hope this helps

    Thank you Professor Aaron, I enjoyed your lecture on Zen and also Esoteric Buddhism. I live in Minnesota and the seed of Zen was planted here by Dainin Katagiri, who was an assistant to Shunryu Suzuki. I had the opportunity to receive Zen instruction from a Katagiri Roshi protege, Steve Hagen. He wrote a good book titled Buddhism Plain and Simple. All this was in the Soto tradition. Most of the folks in this sanga were typical Minnesota types, reserved, stoic, introverted. By coincidence (?), I also had the good fortune to study Aikido under the guidance of Zenko Okimura. We refer to him as Shihan, besides reaching the rank of 7th degree black belt in Aikido he also completed the Shingon Priest training at Koya-San. He was the third generation in his family to do so, along with his younger brother. The focus of their Buddhist mission was in Hawaii. When a number us Aikido students went with him to Honolulu we visited the the family Shingon Temple. The difference compared to the Zen center in Minneapolis was striking. While the Zen center (Dharma Field) was simple and austere, only decorated by a large stone, the Shingon Temple was richly decorated with all sorts of items, too numerous to describe. The sanga people were all warm and welcoming. A priest in training there and I had a conversation in regard to 'American Buddhism' compared to the training he was receiving: "The American Zen Buddhists, he said were mostly interested in meditation and not in performing funerals, while funerals were very important in the training he was receiving.
