I went on a tour after this and found out that the Igbo are a part of the history of the community in Belize. So their dialect is similar to Jamaican Patois because of this influence. There are statues across the island of Igbo leaders. So his creole accent is authentic to Belize. A shared deep heritage that other islands like Jamaica share with the Igbo of Africa. We don’t know for sure how far back in history that influence goes. It may even be as far back as the building of the pyramids as I noticed the jewelry in the “Mayan” figures at the museum shared Igbo jewelry features and facial features. The necklace on the figure had big beads (important in Igbo jewelry) and a medallion with the Mayan glyph “ik” (breathe) which is similar to the Igbo “Ike” (Chi). It was found at Nim Li Punit and dates to 672 AD. There was also a stela that transcribed the scene of this man receiving a beaded necklace in an incense ceremony. Something still practiced today among the Igbo people. Much earlier in time than the colonial period. The museum also had a board with other shared Igbo words used in Brazil.
