Paint Like Craig Mullins. A Study and look at how he does it.
I spent so much time on this video. but after watching it. im not sure im satisfied with it. I want to really break down and go in depth on how he does what he does. I want to figure it out and break it down more clearly for myself and others. but to do this I think it will require a much longer video. and it would require me to learn more about how he does it. while I have a better understanding on how he gets to a finished painting. im still far from fully getting it. I hope to create other videos in the future going more in depth on this topic.

The Painting in the video from 5:20 is from the game Crusader Kings III, i recently got very interested in learning more about that art form style (Crusader Kings III uses the art style of Craig Mullins for the majority of their art illustrations). I just yesterday learned that it was the Art style of Craig Mullins (after a lot of google'ing). And while being a complete novice (haven't like painted stuff in 10 years) i am a bit interested in learning it. I thought this video was a good quick presentation of it, i hope more people will check it out!

I had no idea about the overheating but now it’s something I’ll keep in mind. Do you know if it happens while charging and using or just while on battery? Nice review and art 😊
I have the 11 inch iPad Air and it also heats up really bad sometimes when drawing in procreate, haven’t figured out yet what’s causing the heating, but it’s annoying. Another issue that I encountered with the Apple Pencil pro is that the double tap function is very sensitive, it often activates just by moving the pencil in my hand. No problems with disconnecting tho.

@daluxolosithebe8376 I got it directly from Apple, and I'm counting the total price including the apple pencil pro. They are pricey, but so far it seems worth the investment as I've made the money back with it from commissions

I assume if you’re referring to the cellular version and rounding up that makes sense..but the WiFi version 128gb is 799 plus pencil isn’t enough.. but cellular version is 949 plus Apple Pencil 130 which I think costs between 1140-1150.. I am using iPad and it doesn’t have a calculator app, my iPhone is currently out of power, so don’t attack me if my numbers are a little off, not a math wiz..

I would go with the Huion kamvas 22. slightly smaller. but you shouldnt have to worry about running into alot of the issues I had with the xppen

@@westwaysable the 4k one is around1400 but the 2.5k resolution one is 700 on sale usually 900
i dont use many layers, but i didnt have any issues with the brightness or apple pencil :o maybe you've got a faulty unit? best of luck to solve your problem :3
hmm, I hope mine isnt faulty. so far the problems havent kepts me from being able to work on it though so im going to try to go with it for now. I dont have any kind of apple care so idk what I can do if mine is faulty considering im passed the 14 day return period.

Ive been using my XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro since 2019 and never had any issues. Im very happy with it. Im on Windows 10 tho. Also, people often forget to uninstall old tablet drivers before installing new ones when they get new tablets. This can lead to driver issues and the tablet therefore not working properly.
I also had it on windows 10 and had a few of the same issues. then i moved to mac expecting a better experience and it was worse there. and I didnt have the old drivers intstalled. I had all new everything
I never used the Artist 24 Pro so cant say anything about its performance or performance of its drivers. They have released a few new models which probs perform much better. What software are you using the tablet with? That could also be the issue. Im using Manga Studio, Photoshop and Zbrush and had no issues there. But again, different tablet and drivers, so... @@westwaysable

whaaat that is really cool! I love that. also I fully get that! getting an ipad has helped me alot in that way cause I can draw everywhere now. and it really doesnt feel like a compromise compared to my full desk setup. im working on a video detailed 1 month with the ipad and what I like and dislike! hoping to have it up as soon as I get the chance
@@westwaysable ahh I do have an iPad too. I think my biggest block with productivity is because I just get so tired by the end of the day or my eyes hurt (I happen to work from a computer for my day job so looking at ANOTHER screen after finishing work isn’t necessarily appealing 😅). But I’m glad you’ve found what works for you and I’m excited to see you keep growing! 🫶 I do have faith one day I’ll be in a position that’s more conducive to an art career, just gotta keep hustling 💪
Gave you a sub and a like. It’s not a huge help but a step in the right direction. Also when it comes to working for businesses, they hire based on the art you submit, your schooling is irrelevant. If you wanted to be an environment artist for a game and only one of the many images you should be sending is environment, they won’t hire you. There are a lot of RUclips artists who got into the gaming world, etc. and tell you exactly how to do it. Definitely look for those videos. I think you’re good enough to get yourself out there more. Look at Rob Liefeld, he wasn’t amazing and was hugely successful.

I mainly like to do characters kinda MTG style. but I do often mix it up and try different things so I think that probably is something that holds me back. where I feel i'm constantly experimenting. Craig Mullin is a huge inspiration for me among others.

@@westwaysable Ive also had a RUclips account for years and have never posted anything on it until a couple of weeks back. We, artists, can really cripple ourselves because of our perfectionism.

I used the galaxy tab s6 lite, and I think I was able to switch that off. It was on settings, I don’t remember where exactly.
I'm having a wobby line issue with this without smooth tool. Is there any way to fix this? Btw, what stable driver version of this are you using? Thanks
honestly I haven't used the Xppen since this video. and I uninstalled the software. so I'm not completely sure which version I was using. I ended up going to a screenless Huion tablet for the MacBook. and I bought an iPad for sketching on the go.

I have the ipad air m1 and the apple pencil gen 2. I am planning to upgrade my ipad to a wider screen. So I am debating either to go pro on the tablet screen or go pro on the apple pencil. Ipad pro 2022 with my old pencil or ipad air 13” with the apple pencil pro?
it really depends on your workflow and what you will be drawing most with the ipad. for me I like to do a lot of rendering, and painting. so the pro pencil is a must. since I use that squeeze function to color pick with zero delay. if you will be doing more sketching, then I would say go for the ipad pro 2022.
You should have at;east gotten the m2 12.9in iPad Pro. You can probably get those at the same price as the air and you’re getting a way better screen.
I thought about the but, it isn't compatible with the apple pencil pro. and the features on it makes a difference when using it for art. which is the main reason I got it.

I would love to, though funds are limited so Ill have to do them on the products I already own. All art related of course.
Air still runs on 60hz, unacceptable, you were better off taking last gen pro with m2
60hz is normal in the professional field with all the major drawing tablet brands. Wacom, Huion. and XPPEN. it is the standard. sure 120hz is nice, but not necessary and 60 still feels perfect to draw on.

@TakedaClanBelgrade it will definitely be smoother, but I dont see it as an issue when drawing. I have an android tablet that is also 120hz and I still choose to draw on the iPad, and the real life difference when drawing doesn't feel much, now If you are gaming or something then sure I would understand it more, but strictly for drawing and media consumption, it feels good enough for me, and I draw daily for multiple hours at a time
imo, its a trade off for the new apple pencil pro. Many artists, even those who are always skeptical about suggesting an upgrade to a newer model, are actually very enthusiastic and recommending other artists to upgrade for the new ipads just to get the apple pencil pro. And for many, that pencil is worth wayyy more than the 120hz display.
@@rubyred186 exactly, the apple pencil pro was that for me, those features takes the ipad from a good sketching experience, to fully being able to replace my desktop setup, since now ,I can use the double tap, and the squeeze for different functions, as well as the barrel roll feature. for me, there was just no other option, since I mainly like to paint and render.
I do have the xp pen 24in one, its only 2 and 1/2 years old but sadly it now became just plain monitor. The board that connects the type C port gave out, so my pen stops working completely off and on, mostly stopped working at all now. I had contacted the company about it. They said they dont have any repair shop based in US but in China. Suggested that I just buy a new one instead. It was great when I first got it for school, lasted me for 2 years then it decided to break down. I decided to go back to Wacom cause it was the first tablet I used and never had problems with it. Heck, my old Bamboo Create, still works great and it's the oldest non display tablet I have. So for now, I am saving up to get Wacom's 24in pen display for my use. I am a 3D animator so having a large pen display works well with what I do.
my main desktop tablet now is the Huion Giano. and I recently bought the 13 inch m2 ipad air, I love both of those. eventually I plan to get Huions 24 inch pro tablet. I have thought about going wacom. I know they make quality products, they are just simply out of my budget for the moment.
I had the Artist Pro 12 for a while. My laptop couldn't quite handle it with the tilt function not working at all. So I put it on the PC and it was fine for a while. However a problem developed when lines began to skew. I was also developing a bad neck. I now use a Wacom Intuos pro M and think it's great. Maybe I might go to the larger version at some point.

a plastic one, that still scratches. so I go for a glass screen protector.
You are using a mac book air.. maybe get something a little more powerful.
The MacBook air is a m2, and it's more than powerful enough for creating art with hundreds or layers, I also have a pc with a 2080 ti and 32 gb of ram and a new processor, and the problems still persist, it's not the hardware, but the software of XPPEN
My xp pen has a problem where the wire wont stay in, and so it randomly disconnects.. leading to infuriating times where im in 'the zone' and it disconnects. I actually stopped using my xp pen all together because of the problems

my pc is a AMD 5800X 3D, and a 2080TI with 32 GB of ram, and my Macbook is the Base M2 Macbook Air

@@westwaysable I avoided buying anything Wacom for a long time, did the same for apple products. I then later saved up and committed to both companies and I have never looked back. Nothing is more annoying when your in a flow of art and something with the software stops you from drawing, having to stop to reboot, replug or try to do something to bypass the problem. It's also why I avoid Windows too.
I have the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro. Ive been using it since 2019 and never had any issues with it. Im not a professional and I will not support greedy companies like Wacom or Apple as long as there are cheaper alternatives. This video js just one persons experience. J'ai eu le même problème avec une tablette Huion, je l'ai reçu hier et je la renvoie... Je crois qu'il faut mettre le prix ou s'en passé ! Mettre de l'argent dans un très bon écran et travailler avec une tablette avec un stylet sans écran....
That is what I did I'm now using the Huion Inspiroy Giano and a screen. So far so good, no problems. been an amazing experience overall. will be doing a review of it.
@@westwaysable Je tiens à dire que Huion a du bon matériel : le verre est laminé, les couleurs sont excellentes bref c'est vraiment pas mal ! Mais je crois qu'ils pèchent dans les détails : la connectique les 3 en un est une fausse bonne idée si un branchement n'est pas bon on doit tout changer. Les câbles ne sont pas de bonne qualité, c'est indéniable et ils sont mal pensés pour la tablette que j'avais : Kamvas 24 plus. On a presque tous du display port mais ils continuent à mettre du HDMI autant faire du 4 en 1 alors... Et Stylet n'est vraiment pas de la qualité des XP-Pen.... Je ne sais que prendre ou choisir ! Alors que je rêve depuis plus de trois ans à avoir une tablette à écran. Une petite je ne peux pas je n'ai pas de bons yeux (l'âge n'aide pas) ! Bref, je ne suis pas certain de passer le pas donc...
Do you use other programs aside from CSP? Does the tablet work different or pressent issues for using others? Krita for example...
I havent tried it on other programs, so it may be different, though the problems come from the XPPEN program it's self, so I dont think it would be any different depending one the drawing programs you use to be honest.
