Rowntree’s drumming is really good here! Really emulating Keith Moon’s drumming without going over the top. The mixing here is really bad though. I remember hearing an interview of Damon saying he wasn’t really big into the Who, but that Graham was a big fan when they were kids. Blur and the Who don’t really sound much like each other, but “Substitute” definitely has that unserious British tone to it that Blur took on in the mid-90s (albeit more in the vein of Ray Davies/the Kinks). All this said, this cover is remarkably and surprisingly not very good. It kinda sounds like they’re just having a laugh and not really trying to sound good though. There’s a video of the Who covering “Barbara Ann” from the 70s that has the same vibe
