Sorry to bother you again, please could you just point us in the right direction for backing tracks? I've searched but can't find any like the ones you use. Many thanks
Steve. I take it this applies to every other scale? So if you had a backing track in C, you could play c major, am, am pentatonic scales?
THANKS Steve great lesson
Great stuff!
Thanks so much. I've spent hours trying to get started with my chromatic harp - could play around in C but couldn't find the other keys. This is a great start, I'm so grateful. Nowhere else on the web is there such good teaching and demonstration. You are brilliant.
That is very kind thank you
I recently ran across a song for chromatic that was tabbed out in the key of G. I kind of felt deflated because I only have a C chromatic. However, after watching this series that feeling of having to purchase another harp for the key of G is no more. Especially since I have a 16 hole. This is a very great series.
Good tribute to Robert Johnson 👏 👍.
Hi Steve, thanks for the info. I want to play chromatic on the Adele song "If it hadn't been for love" in Am and my search led me here. That scale should work well. I'm still getting used to the instrument and need to add those beautiful incidentals with the slide.
Thank you for the information Steve - sometimes the viewer is looking for a video that gets straight to the point and this video is like that ! I just picked up some older Chromatic harps and this is just what I needed, when I needed it.
Really pleased to here that. Many thanks
Oh you're Stevie Wonder of the RUclips.
Awesome guys and cool location
Hello….excellent help, with your tabs I can transfer that to my sheet music knowledge…really great teaching tool for me (68 yo chromatic harmonica player of nearly 2 yrs after playing the violin and diatonic harmonicas for 10-12 yrs)…chromatic only now and interested in jazz work for my songs. Dana via Maine USA
Excellent work and great presentation. Glad to have found your channel.
I know this is a few years old but how many holes is on that harp? Looking at my first Chromatic harp and can’t decide how many holes to get. 12? 16? I am not sure the advantages/disadvantages of each. I want to buy one harp to get me through as many keys as possible. I am a diatonic player and tired of buying new harps all the time for different songs.
There's 16 holes on that Harp but I would recommend going for 12 hole chromatic if it's your first chromatic. You get an extra octave with the 16 which is good in many ways but the 12 is much more comfortable to play.
Which harmonica is it? Great sound!
Many Thanks. It is a Suzuki SCX 64.
Great stuff! Thanks.
Harpoon d Me (Thx Steve)
Great tutorial and thanks so much for sharing the backing track so we can try this! I am sharing the Gospel Harmonica Community on Facebook!
what is this key
Thanks Steve. Great work.
Beautiful tone. What is the type of harmonica you are using? Hohner 270 Deluxe? Thanks
Thanks Scott - yes it is!
Backing Track ist super Wo kann man das finden ? Gruss aus Deutschland
Many thanks - I have recorded the backing track myself. The progression is Em, Am7, Em, Am7, Bm7, Em.
@@SteveLuff Many thanks for the answer That sounded very good Can you speak German because I can't speak English myself Best wishes from Germany
Many thanks @@MegaBoomer666 . Sadly I do not speak German at all!
Steve where would we find these backing tracks?
Steve are you going to do the rest of the chromatic videos?
Hey Steve..greetings from India...we use chromatic harmonica for playing Indian music...mainly Indian folk and Bollywood...but jazz is different and this video was very helpful in learning some other music that we don't play usually...thank you and keep making more of these🙏👍
BRAVO BRAVO !!!!!!
I pay $27 a month to Yvonne Prene. I'd be happy along with others to subscribe to a course you put out
Steve would you consider doing a chromatic course online? Im sure you would get loads of paid subscribers. Or how about a patreon page for chromatic?
Thank you for the suggestions Sarah. It is something that I would love to do and have been working on setting up. Unfortunately time is always a barrier as I teach so many private lessons in the week. Fingers crossed I can get more content produced. I have just invested in a new camera which should help. Thanks Steve.
Thank you so much
Fantastic lesson thank you. I wish you had a paid course,id definetely pay
Thanks Sarah. Feel free to get in touch if you would like to book a Skype lesson. I teach full time. guitarbeginners-stafford.com/
Thanks for sharing.
As a chromatic harmonica player I have two words for you: Thank you I have just one question, what would be the difference between playing A minor pentatonic and C minor pentatonic in this song ?
Thank you Alex. Pleased you like the video. The Am pentatonic scale works because the key of C Major and A Minor are related. Essentially both scales are made up of the same notes: C Major Scale: C, D, E, F, G, A, B A Minor Scale: A, B, C, D, E, F, G Because Amazing Grace is in the key of C. Both of these scales will work - as well as the A Minor Pentatonic. The C Minor Pentatonic is derived from a completely different scale so will not fit the notes found in the key of C Major: C Minor Scale: C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb Hope that helps. Would be worth checking out the Circle of Fiths 👍
Thank you for the reply and it really helps if you were to do more videos like this, as a chromatic harmonica player there seems to be a lack of this type of instruction. Back to the original question of scales, I thought A minor pentatonic if it’s the key of C would be the major pentatonic and C minor pentatonic in the key of C would be the minor due to the flat 3rd and flat 7th. I’ll have to study my music theory a bit more
great stuff Steve, love the jazzy feel
Cheers Pete 👍
Steve...great demo of 'slide jabs' that can be used in any key to spice up the Chromatic.
Hi steve, can you please upload a tutorial on Arabic scales please? Thank you so much brother. You're a life saver.
Thank you so much brother. You're a life saver.
These videos are gold! Did you give up on completing the series? Would love to carry on with these. 🙏🏻
Hi Michelle. Thank you for the kind comment. I will most certainly be back to finishing the series off. I have had to have a fair bit of time off - due to an issue with my throat! Long story short my tonsils have been removed but I'm pretty much back to full strength now. Pleased you are enjoying them. Will hope to get one produced asap.
@@SteveLuff Oh dear... that must’ve been horrible I know getting tonsils removed as an adult can be a very unpleasant thing, glad to hear you’re feeling better and are doing well. 😊 I look forward to more in this series. Would you also consider doing a basic series on all 12 major scales on the chromatic? Thanks Steve!
Great video Steve! I've been wanting to learn chromatic.
Wow! You're a good teacher. Thanks a lot. This has helped me. God bless!
nice playing ..nice simple video
Very cool. Love it!
