500 Hours of Japanese in 3 Months (Summer Challenge Finished!)
Просмотров 11 тыс.3 года назад
Finally, the summer 5 hours of Japanese a day for the entire summer experiment is over. Although, its time to keep on learning! I mostly tracked accurately enough, but sometimes forget to start the timer, and comes out that I managed to immerse/study/learn Japanese for around 500 hours this summer! Everything I Use for Learning Japanese

A lot of people have asked for me to make a video like this, so I decided to make here on the second channel! - Update 2021.08.05: Netflix just changed the way they detect traffic, which crippled pretty much all VPNs trying to access Netflix, so just be warned about getting a VPN for Netflix right now, I recommend checking online if the issue has been resolved. Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Its almost been an entire month since I started learning/consuming Japanese for 5 hours a day. In this episode I'll quickly cover the more important stuff from weeks 2 and 3! The next update is probably going to be on my main channel to wrap up the entire month of June, and then I'll continue with the mini updates in July. Main video: ruclips.net/video/fYKbkO4Fl88/видео.html So the first 8 days of learning has passed, and so far I have successfully immersed/learned for 5 hours (minimum) a day. Unfortunately I was really busy this week and couldn't get the ball rolling as well as I hoped, but no worries as its only the beginning. An example day of doing the Japanese Core 2k/6k deck on Anki
Просмотров 16 тыс.3 года назад
I decided to record myself doing the Core 2k/6k deck for the sake of demonstration, so you could see the pace at which I'm doing my reviews. My general checklist for reviewing a card: - Try to get the reading correct - Try to get the meaning correct - When its a new card, or when in doubt, check the example sentence - If you only got the meaning or only the reading correct, you need to decide f...
is migaku still gud? seems to get bloated with a million extra stuff
thanks, u just proved to me as to why migaku is not good for RUclips. as it works on captions and not subs.
Not really sure what you mean. The subtitles are based on whichever subtitle track you choose on RUclips, meaning that you can select either manually created subtitles (if available) or auto generated ones.
@BudgetLivakivi which is only good if it is uploaded captions. Auto captions are always incorrect in Japanese. Most Japanese RUclipsrs often add subtitles to their videos, Migaku would be better using these by doing an image scan, the technology already exists as that is how Google translate work when you use the camera. But instead of using a camera they can use a Screenshots instead. This would result in a much better accuracy when learning via videos.
@@narsplace I've mined ~10,000 n+1 word cards from auto-generated RUclips subtitles - yes they have mistakes, but they are "correct enough" for sentence mining most of the time, especially now as the accuracy keeps improving every year. If you're already intermediate at Japanese, you're going to be able to tell when the subtitles are wrong, meaning that its not really a problem since you can still extract the new word. As long as you have the correct target word, the native audio, and a screenshot to remind you of the context, the sentence accuracy won't matter as you can review cards just by looking at the target word and you'll know the rest of the sentence from audio. The issue with Mining in-video subtitles via OCR is that not only are they not always available, but most of the time, those in-video subtitles are "summaries" of what is being said, not a word-for-word transcript (a good example of this is the channel @yurugengo). This is why I recommend beginners to mine content that has manually created subtitles such as anime, TV shows, or movies, before mining RUclips that requires a baseline for recognizing mistakes in the subtitles.
@BudgetLivakivi if you are learning N1 vocabulary via flash cards, in my honest opinion I do believe that is a waste of time. I do see benefits with flash cards but that benefit has a diminishing return the more proficient one becomes in a language. As simply using the language in itself provides more benefits to improving language acquisition than flash cards can. Which is why I believe having correct captions is more important at the higher level because those at higher levels aren't watching content to learn but content that is for natives and if the captions are wrong than specified vocabulary that is missing in that context could make going from upper intermediate to advanced more complex, miguku is good for contextual learning, which is why I like it's tracking feature, as I can learn the words just from reading subtitles. Thought all is not lost as I have found to channel that are for natives that are good for language learning. Yuka_chan815 She does travelling videos around Japanese and a round and talk about her experiences. The other is しおねる This girl travels around Japn and experiences different unique trains around Japan. Here videos are each 30 minutes long. Thought maybe the 1st 10 videos of hers are all auto captions. I always believe it's good having peaceful disagreements.
I made this email for emersion, good to hear a similar sound.
Will Migaku work with a Japanese video if RUclips doesn't generate Japanese subs?
It needs some kind of subtitles to parse from, either hand-made by the video owner, or auto-generated by RUclips. Migaku doesn't generate subtitles for videos itself.
It was satisfying to know a couple of the cards you did, even though I am extremely early on in my study.
How do you change the font size of your custom styling
its so expensive😢
Thanks
How did you get the Forvo audio dictionairy?
do you recommend using the old legacy version or the new one ?
Thanks for the tutorial it's quite complete, I need to use the legacy app because the new one doesn't have a way to delay the subs (or I haven't found it) but one thing I miss is seeing faster (with just hovering) the frequency to know what to focus on, I think there's something similar from the settings in the frequency dictionaries config but I don't truely understand the setting it's related to T1 sentences I think?

Great content bro
I will def spend alot of time practicing when summer comes around, that sounds like a great idea. I dont wanna just waste time in my summer anyways.
the latest migaku plugin streamlines a lot of this manual labor. it's come a long way, and I'd highly recommend that instead.
how does it feel to become the mine
loving the series, being able to understand these has been so motivating honestly. please keep it up!
love this series, you making
yet another great video
めちゃくちゃよくやった 日本語の動画をズーットつづけていればもっと作って下さい いつもありがとうございました
Really epic drawing of the scream monster, and funny jumpscare at the end lmao. Loving this series. Also I think the black thing duchess uses as weapon is actually pepper (pretty interesting)
Yeah I accidentally called that pepper "ginger" because I keep mixing up 「コショウ」(pepper) and 「ショウガ」(ginger) haha.

love this series
Hi Livakivi! Sorry to botter, but I seem to have a problem with your custom note type. For some reason, it does not have the same layout as its shown in the video. Every thing is centered to the left and the font size is very small, and i dont know how to adjust it 😔 Could you help me?
It's kinda hard to tell, but sounds like the CSS might be missing? You don't need to use the note type I provided, but, if you hit "Tools" > "Manage Note Types" > Livakivi Example Note Type > Cards > Styling, does it have the fields cards / font face / japanese text? If not, may be a good idea to delete it and re-download the note type.
I have the same problem. It worked for the first couple of times, and now everything is left-aligned. Unfortunately, I dont have a programming background and will most likely have to end up using the default migaku note type.
The cards from Migaku get added to note types in Anki, not to the decks. So I cannot study them like usual decks. It is really confusing..What should I do?
Do you have a deck and a note type properly selected in the Migaku Dictionary? It shouldn't be able to turn cards into note types just due to the way Anki works. If there are further issues, you can contact Migaku or join their Discord or something for help since they/others can probably help you more.
based game choice
I think you should do as few edits as possible. It'll force you to try to come up with more stuff to fill the time, so good practice. Also nice video, it's nice to actually have a japanese video I can understand all of lol
Please continue making these, I love your content and being able to immerse to you playing a game is cool and interesting for me. :)

im sentence mining this
although it was hard for me as a beginner to understand, I really enjoyed the video. Epic drawing
Loving these videos. Love to see it after watching your journey on the main channel.
I actually didn't realise you had a second channel, but I'm seriously glad I've found this! You're an absolute G for these channels, especially as I've just seen you've even got a core 2k/6k deck example video. Subscribing now, and looking forward to the let's plays.
I don’t know about other people but I’m also learning Japanese and am absolutely LOVING these videos! I would love to see videos like this continue for as long as you’ll make them
Imagine watching a channel to learn about immersion BECOME the channel to go for immersion
for real, found the main channel like 6 months ago because I wanted a tutorial on how to set up the core2k/6k deck, now after doing core1k and around 1.2k migaku cards I'm at a point where this is really comprehensible for me, it's so good
This is my immersion for today 😅 Hope to become as good as you at Japanese one day!
You're finally playing it
One day I hope to become nihongo jouzu like you dude
let's go. new upload on second channel.
After years of sentence mining, how does it feel to finally become the one who is being sentence mined?
もっと日本語のビデオを作れてください!!!
まさに再考でした あとパート2を楽しみます!
When I got into anime I could have sworn Japanese voice acting was always better. Then I saw Baccano! Ite better with the American voice actors. Fitting the scene is actually important - most anime isn’t in America. Alice in Wonderland is definitely British and the British voice actors sound best I think.
I feel like dubs can be good in almost every language, but the issue is that often dubs end up sounding goofy regardless of language if the directors and voice actors themselves haven't put enough effort into matching the original vibe or creating something fitting. Lots of anime dubbed to English sound awful, and the same goes for lots of English content dubbed to Japanese, yet there are amazing dubs out there like the Japanese Shrek dub and so on. It's all about the talent and effort that goes into crafting it, I feel like the voice of Alice in this game could have easily have been much more matching with the atmosphere if the directors were more particular about it.
C’est bon!
There has to be Cheems VTuber model out there somewhere
This is peeeeerfect for immersion. At least I think so. Do you think using this for immersion would be OK, since you are not a native speaker? I feel like your Japanese is very easy to understand, but perhaps it would, somehow, be better to listen to a native speaker... Would love to hear your opinion on this. Love the channel, thanks for posting this! Also, hope you like it here in Japan ^^
I made tons of mistakes in this video, its definitely not the most "correct"/native level Japanese, but since its just going to be a few videos its not going to do any damage to your Japanese. I've listened to thousands of hours of foreign speakers of English and it never lead to any problems because the majority of my English immersion was still from natives.
You must have filmed this before the buyee video, I can't imagine someone not stealing the game code 😂
