    Do you use another program alongside this for Language Arts? Like a writing program?

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog 2 месяца назад

      Yes, I would. But we're pretty big on language arts in our family. We do a lot of writing, though I'm starting to move away from pre-made writing curricula and tailor my projects more to my own kids. I haven't done one of these novel studies in a while, but I think the writing assignments were pretty simple. You could certainly design your own to go along with the books you're studying, but if you want a set of writing lessons, you'd be better off using something like WriteShop or Writers in Residence depending on the age of your kids. I have a video comparing those two programs, which you can find here: ruclips.net/video/CIIsyxXoU0A/видео.htmlsi=wChiMZkI2gVOLyze

    Hi. Is this curriculum neutral or secular please? As I am only interested in secular evidence based science curricula - I don’t see a point of neutrality. Science is interdependent and if one is quiet in say evolution how can one teach other concepts. Thanks

      I can't say for sure as I don't have all of the books anymore, but if I was going to guess I would say it leans more toward neutral.

    My kids are 4 and 10. Is this something they could do together? I’m trying to do a family Bible style in the morning and I’m trying to help foster a love for one another because of the age gap. It has been challenging to say the least. Is there a video to watch everyday? What does the lesson look like on a typical day and how long does Bible time take?

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog Год назад

      You could do it together, but a lot of it might be too advanced for your 4-year-old. I did use this with all of my kids when they were around 4-14, but my youngest didn't get much out of it, I don't think. They two little ones were into learning the actions, but I think most of the discussion was over their head. I'm not currently using this curriculum anymore, but I believe the videos are weekly. You can watch them more than once to get the repetition. You read one section of the weekly lesson each day (roughly one page). I think you could probably find a program that is more suited to your goals than this one...perhaps something with hands-on activities or collaboration. Sorry I can't be of more help!

    Thank you for your review. I am wondering, do the novel study curriculums have more than just rabbit trails and magic dust activities? I have a soon to be middle schooler and I would like to have discussion prompts related to the novels. Ways to get my daughter thinking about what she read, a deeper message behind the book. Thanks!

    • @sophieagbonkhese346
      @sophieagbonkhese346 Год назад

      Thanks for your question. I would say it's mostly rabbit trails and magic dust (i.e. extended learning). I haven't seen any discussion prompts in the online course, but they have live book clubs where you can join and discuss the books. There are reading and writing prompts though. Here is one example: Read: Part Three (stop at The Paint Eater) Write: As you are reading, write down any sentences or paragraphs that you like or have special meaning to you in your journal. Pay attention to any words or phrases that you don't understand and write them in your journal. Look up the meanings of these words. Spelling and Grammar: Dictate the passage you copied in your journal from Part Three. Be careful to punctuate and capitalize correctly and watch for spelling. If you make any errors, correct them.

    Can you tell me how many lessons per week and how long per lesson for pre Algebra?

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog Год назад

      The pacing guide recommends 3 lessons per week. How long it takes really depends on the student-how well do they grasp math topics, how focused are they, and how quickly they work. I'd say it's probably about an hour, but could be done faster with an eager student.

    • @sophieagbonkhese346
      @sophieagbonkhese346 Год назад

      Yes. The prescribed schedule is three lessons per week. Each lesson has its on quiz and the. There are spiral reviews every few lessons and a test every chapter. We are still loving this curriculum after many years. My eldest finished her high school math requirements in grade 9 with Mr. D.

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog 2 года назад

      Hi Julina, It depends on whether you take a full-year class or a half-year class. Full-year classes meet once a week while half-year classes meet twice a week. You can find the full schedule of live classes for next year here: bit.ly/3LZedIt

      @@mycuprunsoverblog I see what time the live classes are, but I was wondering about the live help sessions.

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog 2 года назад

      @@Julina367 Oh I see. I don't think there are separate help 'sessions' aside from what the live teachers offer. When doing the live classes, students still follow along with all of Mr. D's own videos. The classes themselves are the help sessions. However, real-time help is always available to students. They can send a message to their teacher asking for help at any time and receive a response very quickly, often right away. Hopefully, that clears things up.

    • @mycuprunsoverblog
      @mycuprunsoverblog 2 года назад

      It's not too long. I'd say we spend about 15 minutes, but you could probably spend up to 30 if you really dug into all the readings and spent time discussing it. We're usually trying to squeeze it in right at the beginning of our day before we start all our work, so we usually only give it about 15 minutes. We love doing all the motions together!
