Rancher Mike -- The Man Behind the Ranch
In 2008, I bought some acreage outside of Austin where I now raise cattle, donkeys, chickens, and other critters from time to time. I also have three dogs -- Buddy, Pixy, and Bandit -- that keep me company here at Perez Oso Ranch.
So what's with the name of my ranch, you say? Well, it literally translates to "Perez Bear Ranch" ("Perez" being my last name, and I have always liked bears). However, I also enjoy a good play on words, and in Spanish, the word "perezoso" means "lazy." So, it's also my "Lazy Ranch." Get it?
I created this channel to provide insights into my ranching operation, local communities, and real estate topics that pop up from time to time -- did I mention that I'm also a real estate agent with Allison James Estates & Homes?
I hope you enjoy the videos, and if you want to learn more, check out my website at www.ranchermike.com.

In this thirteenth video in my series "Raising Beef Cattle for Beginners," I saw that my bull was standing around and didn't seem to be his "chipper" self. When I got closer, I noticed that he was dangerously bloated! Over the next couple of days, I tried multiple ways to try and reduce the bloat. Check out my video to see what I did ... and how it turned out.

Great post. Thank you ruclips.net/video/9Y7xAVp6Wh4/видео.html
African way! Nothing is thrown away! Internal organs( esp tripes) my fav..
First day on the job in a butcher shop as a kid, this made me "unwell" but now I just understand it's part of life and necessary
Wow, those little ones are actually pretty nice. We’re no castrate, and they still hold their weight. What good is a bull that can’t produce. Especially , when the bull is good weight for the off spring. Thank you for this video.
rest in peace to that beautiful cow. its good to see her body isnt going to waste
Thank you for sharing this video. Definitely very helpful.
The intestines, towel, liver kidneys, stomach and tongue are rhe best parts of a cow. We make delicious pepper souo with these parts and it goes well with different meals here in Nigeria. I'm a cattle farmer and butcher myself and i really appreciate how welldone your friend worked this cow. Shalom
This was such a great tutorial. I’ll have more respect when I eat meat
Thanks for the video, been a long time since I butchered an animal on a farm. Nothing compares to growing up on a farm, you learn to take nothing for granted at the very least.
Agriculture can have many negative impacts on the environment, such as soil and water pollution and loss of biodiversity. In contrast, organic and sustainable farming methods are being encouraged.
How high is the risk of delivery problems for using a bull with a CED of 2 on a heifer ?
these men are heroes. Ty for sharing
This way makes it manageable for the average person to do at home.
Awesome video! 💯🔥💪🤙
The dude has skill with butchering!
🥩🍖🥓🥩🍖🥓🍖🥓🍖🍖🥩🍖🥓🍖🥩🍖🥓🍖🥩🍖🥓🍖🥩🍖🥓🍖🥩🍖🥓🥓🥓🍖🥓🥓🍖🥓🥓🍖🍖🍖🍖🥩
Precision cutting, very educational…. I dont eat intestines, but interesting to see how it’s processed
Very inspired
Did this a few times during my farming days, soon as the chunks were separated, first thing we did was slice the heart and BBQ then and there, absolutely delicious with rye or sourdough bread and hot horseradish
man....honestly if I had to butcher my own meat I would be a vegetarian....so glad for butchers.
Intestines make a great casing for a meat and rice mix!
Por favor, poderia me falar as medidas, dimensões do water bob ?
Iv commented on this before but these guys knife skills are Amazing.
This is quite brutal for someone who has never been around animals before, defently some shock factor. But I have lots of respect, amazing skills. I am jealous, want to be more self sufficient and connected to reality. I have watched dozens of butchering videos, most don't really bother me, once the head is gone or it's quartered, but starting from a live animal is a little different, when I was a kid I use to butcher my rabbits from beginning to end, I guess I was a very skill 6-10 year old and was told to go outside and but her a rabbit, no supervision. But my parents were both gone by the time I was 10 and don't really remember anything prior to that. Just bought a large abandoned farm, and trying to decide what and how much of I am going to be doing on it. Thanks for the content
This man Aaron is a solid expert. Thanks for your detail video. those brothers should work on getting electrical tools
Thank you very much for the tips and tricks 🥰.. When you form 1 bin with beetles you dont add any new pupas or beetles in that bin until all the beetles in that bin dye off? That is the part i dont understand 🙂
Great job utilizing the whole animal 👏
That's an awesome video 😅
thanks
Thank you for teaching us
Crazy how much I learned about cow anatomy today
That's a helluva knife
My bull was a low birth weight. My uncle gave me him. He is now going on 4, very tame and VERY big and bulky boy. My heifer was a high birth weight and I don’t know much about cows but I think she looks good. They had a heifer calf together that was also high birth weight like her mom. And she’s 7 months and BEEY bulky and big. Personally I think they look incredible. I’m here trying to learn everything I can to starting my own cattle herd. We have 4 Bull, cow. Their heifer calf we plan to eat at 2. And my new heifer that’s 6 ish months I’m raising to breed
I’m getting a pet stick insect next week!! 🌳
Hermoso video! Un saludote a Memo y Aaron desde San Luis Potosi.
Kukos to you, Memo and Aron! I am glad you have reminded us to use as much of the calf!
It's nice to hear you have an appreciation for the other cuts, aka offal. I, too, enjoy sweetbreads. Also, the heart, kidneys and liver are delicious. This video is great!
Glad I stumbled upon your video! I'm always impressed by how much of an animal can be utilized instead of going into the trash.
I'm from 🇮🇳 and i love see this ❤❤❤
They should teach this in schools.
great video
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, new sub, starting at the beginning
Cattle will kill each other because of rank. This is the downside of "freerange" cattle..Now, that dude is a professional slaughter. He has probably processed tens of thousands of cattle before this. Knifehands takes time to be that familiar and confident.
In Virginia current average prices around 2.50 up to 3.00. They have been holding in this range for several months
I love cows but this is very interesting also those knives are hella sharp
I heard that they eat their web at night and rebuild it in the morning, and it takes a lot of energy. so if you do break their web they could die. I got a couple in my backyard I've been watching. they are big and pretty
We experienced this with a Jersey cow we use as a nurse cow. My teenage son noticed her looking "fat" which made me look to see that was just down her left side. I'd personally never seen bloat before. Got my very experienced cattleman husband and he said was bloating. Her side never got as huge as seen towards the end of this video. My husband's instructions were to dry lot her. That meant pulling her out of her pen and no water and no food. By next morning had a cow patty mess all over and put her back in the pen. It was over 100 degree hottest part of our summer so far and getting grain and some alfalfa for her milk feeding a calf and still providing family milk (she previously was nursing 3 calves). We ultimately backed off almost all the grain and alfalfa using oat hay instead and left her to just the calf instead of calf and some family milk after she did this a second time. In our case a happy ending.
I really like the way that you were very conscious of waste and the fact that you respected the animal every bit of that I’ve seen before haven’t been raised on a farm. Death is nothing more than part of life wasting that calf. I feel would’ve been disrespectful to the animal, so very well done
Hello do you have a link to big bags of wheat bran on Amazon or another place to order it. I can’t get wheat bran where I live in big bags. I am currently using oatmeal But that is hard to sift, do you know if I could crush up the oatmeal some to make sifting easier?
