OMG! What a wonderful video showing what's it's like in the cab. Reminds of motocross on 4 wheels! Thanks for sharing
Watching you bounce around in the seat, made me think of me racing motocross😂😂..I operated cat/scraper for a number of years, but been on dozer for...too long now it seems..Will be jumping into a grader & excavator in the very near future,to learn something new..Cool vid!!
Wow , as a land surveyor, I successfully dodged those giants for years . Nice to finally get to see what goes on inside the cab . Thanks !
It’s a BOWL not a can !
Tomato, Potato.
You got a steering wheel...the old webco scraper I had and used had 2 levers.one on the left and one on the right,,,you wanted to turn left you would have to slam the right lever forward and the left lever back towards yourself or vice virsa both at the same time to prevent damage.
That sounds like it’d be absolutely hectic to operate! I’d like to mess around with one off the clock for the experience though.
Hey you can’t park there
You should talk about your coworkers with a little more respect 🤔 he's on the jobsite same as you!
No doubt! 🤣🤣 Didn’t have a vest, boots, or a hard hat on, but there was no sending him home, he was bustin hump.
i fw that turtle
😂😂 He was on a straight up mission and didn’t have time for questions.
The scrapper operators should keep their own haul road smooth. I used to keep my ejection out, apron up and bowl down. Yall bouncing around for no reason.
Man, for a second I thought you were giving your 2 cents based on just watching the video, but no one would do that and expect to be taken seriously, right? You were out there. 😂 Seriously though, I don’t disagree with your theory, unfortunately that only works on conditions that aren’t saturated clay before the bottom line falls out. Believe me, we tried, and after one round it would just blow up again. With big dirt, the developers are paying based on yardage, and scraPers are the ones actually moving that yardage, the rest is just support to increase load counts. So if scraPers waste ALL day dragging out roads and not pulling loads, they don’t make the money, and the bosses are pissed. That’s usually when they bring in a blade; long or messy hauls. It’s cheaper to pay one blade than slow down 6+ scraPers to smooth their own road continuously. I wouldn’t let my back go to waste in the name their money, but when you could easily be replaced by the next guy, you shut up and just get it done. So there actually were reasons oddly enough.
😂 31 years of moving dirt and I’ve never had my scrapers bouncing around like that. You have 6 scrapers there. They can smooth the haul road faster than the grader! Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to go faster. It will all work out in the end. And as a boss I would never have my workers thinking about not doing something they think is good or be replaced. Dude you need to leave. I used to work for Kiewit. You should go there where you can grow. I see you know what you’re doing. I think you’re at the wrong company.
Left foot on the pedals young fella , so yer spine is not twisted around like an owl to look at yer bowl. This turns yer entire body so yer back is towards the door
Lol, Idk about “young fella” as this is the oldest I have ever been, but I guess we’re all young to somebody, eh old timer? I actually did start changing feet over time, but don’t need to anymore. Moved on to checking grade, so now I’m setting up the cuts and fills and tellin em what to do instead! 😂 All the same, the tip is appreciated, and who knows, maybe someone else will read it and it may save their life.
Are you union worker?
Can I get this job I have 2 years experience of cat 745c
Anything is possible! I would recommend trying to apply at a local quarry. They may be union, so you’d have to find your way in that way, which isn’t a bad thing.
Move more dirt in ten min with a blade than u move all say with an 8
8 years on one of those and my back and neck hurts watching
When you know, you know, and you certainly know!
That is so cool would love to try driving those machines
It’s a pretty rough gig on the body, but there’s certainly worse ways than “playing” in the dirt all day to make a living, I tell you what!
That brought back more bad then good memories. I have never missed running a scraper. It's fun for a min but move up or on in two years or your back will be gone by 40. Paddle wheel on finish isn't a bad job though
😂😂, I can only imagine the PTSD your back was going through, my condolences. I haaaaaaaaate scrapers. Can’t speak for anything past 35 yet, but even this is too old, haha. When I’m telling my friends and family about scrapers, I tell them how the only cool part of operating them, is bragging about it to your friends and family. They move a fascinating amount of dirt, but to me they’re fun for like 5 rounds at most. Fortunately I’ve been getting to hop around different equipment instead, but I have to fully agree, not once would I have rather been in a scraper. Luckily it’s been less and less, and it’s just a few days here and there now, with the occasional gravy job like disking fields. Im with you on the finish work and don’t mind the paddle wheels either. Couple weeks ago got a couple days in a 627k with only 14 hours on it, and that was a pretty killer. Didn’t last though, they had me back in a 637D this week, which was older than I am, lol. What a dog! Plus it 2 mile haul, and I’d say 90% of our road was pumping hard! My back and I are super glad that job is getting an inch of rain today 😂.
@7b7decker7 I ran a 637 for 2 years consistent, then moved up. Had alot more here and there days, fill in and what not. It's a good place to start. If you aren't out of the seat in 2-4 years you will be there until you can't walk. The dozer is a nice place to be. If you get a shot, move on to grade checker if you can read plans. Then it's foreman. After that I quit, got my own license and now do my own thing. Never looked back. I don't regret any of it but I don't ever want to go back. Good luck with your future and keep moving that dirt. There is alot of money to be made in the dirt
Who wears a helmet inside a dump truck?
This dork when I first started out 🤣. Used to have a really bad habit of jumping out of equipment without it, which is an EXTRA big no-no at the quarries in California, so I’d always just keep it on my head. Outgrew that luckily, our necks take enough beating without the extra weight..
Some companies require it. ALL DAY
True, some require straps too, it’s crazy. All day would definitely kill me. Got loaned out to a different company once, and NOBODY wore them anywhere on that job. I couldn’t do that either, lol.
Eeeeew!!
Mmm. Lunch. ... Not the sandwhich either......
That’s alright dude! Part of the deal.
That’s a great scraper video!
I appreciate that, thank you! 🤘🏼
Started my operating career a year ago. Will be running a scraper on a job for the first time starting tomorrow.
I hope all goes well for you! Scrapers get pretty gnarly sometimes, but they can be pretty fun too. Crazy machines. If it gets stressful and seems like a lot at first, just stick with it, it’ll get easier with time. You’ll find what works for you, especially if you get good partners that are willing to share some tips🤘🏼🤘🏼.
@@7b7decker7 I was fortunate enough to practice at a training site Friday & today (Tuesday) running a 657K, but just solo loads, no push/pull I’m not a pro yet, but I’m confident about running one on a job now. Definitely harder on the body than most other machines I’ve been on
At 3!! Wow that kid is gonna be awesome when he grows up
Gotta teach em young! 🤙🏼
Your body needs a 57
A young person's machine. My back hurts watching
No kiddin, even the good days feel like a car wreck! Can’t speak past 35 yet, but it sure feels too old to me 😂.
i love this truck, i hope drive it, in the future ❤
I hope you get to also. They can be a lot of fun!
You even had a cab on yours... I'll bet that's pretty cool.
Yea, I actually kinda prefer open cab equipment. The windows just make it harder to see. Cabs are sweet if you actually get a rig with working AC, otherwise it’s like another 10 the outside temperature, it sucks.
Shaweeettt!
That’s awesome
love it 🤟
U got a purrrdy mouth..... Mmmhhmmmm
Awesome bro!
Thank you! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I wish my old back would stand it I would love to be running one again. I'm 75 years old and cut my teeth on a C Pull WABCO
I can only imagine the awesome stories you have to tell!
holy shit that was a close
Was NOT ready for that 😂
i was on that job too next to the hospital for KDW.
That’s the one! 🤘🏼
Hell yea bro!! I swear you look so familiar Im in a 2023 Peterbilt water truck, 4000 gallons and an American flag in the cab hahah
❤Great Video📹!! My Dad use to drive the Big 657/657B Motorscrapers in his youth on the various Motorway🛣 jobs in the UK and always remember him telling me years ago about how he'd operate them as you were there with one foot on both peddles and him also saying about having to be extra careful with regards to the back engine as if you weren't careful you would end up jacknifing the scraper if you put too much juice on the rear motor! He also said when you had a cushion hitch it made all the difference! Never operated scrapers myself but sat up in the cabs of 637's & 657B's along time ago and looked out back into the boxes and imagined what could be, those boxes just seemed go on forever! Again great video and thanks for posting👍!!
Thats awesome! I have been able to take my kids to check them out at a couple local jobs, but they don’t get to get in them or go for any rides, unfortunately. Hopefully they will still remember them as you do though, that’s awesome. Your dad sounds rad!
@@7b7decker7 great stuff there dude👍
Got to be careful. An old girlfriend of mine was riding with her pro motocross friends down in Baja. She made the mistake of turning around on the trail to ride back to see if something happened to the person behind her. Got hit head on by a rider doing about 60. Took 5 hours to get her air lifted out of there. Traumatic brain injury, she never recovered from.
Ahh that’s awful! I’m sorry to hear that. That’s exactly what I was afraid of. We weren’t out there together, but still wanted to make sure he was all good and was able to park and just wait for the sound of his bike this time. I can’t act like haven’t crept back on the side of a trail to check on my buddies when I’m in group, but figured we had gotten lucky enough that first time we crossed paths as strangers this time.
Hey.....Kinda looks like you could easily become a Bull Rider if this heavy equipment gig doesn't work out.......I'm very impressed by all the awesome technology of ' Evil Colonials' building nations for border crashers to break into.......And then try and turn it into a dump like back home.......... Great work .....BUD !!!!!!
It's been a few years but I never done see it like that!
Steady speed the whole video, excellent work & explanation
Thank you!
Rock truckin 🤘🤘
Eeeeeasy money 😂
All hail Santa ⛽⛽⛽
😂😂 Tis the season!
And they pay people to do that? 😂 Sweet!
😂 no kiddin! That old saying is true, we get bigger and so do our toys. Long days, but they sure make nice checks.
badass!!, put that bike to work, that top end is broke in now if it wasn't before🇺🇲🤙
She got some hours that weekend for sure! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
O shit u ride them dirtbikes?!?!
Sometimes. I just fill up gas jugs at the gas station, mostly.
should use ear plugs mate. you'll still have hearing when your 50
Solid advice! Although this video doesn’t reflect it, I generally do wear them when it’s applicable. Used to use the foamies, but have since upgraded to noise canceling buds. 🤘🏼
Can you learn to operate an Articulated Truck on the job, or does one have to get special training?
Usually on the job, but depending on the apprenticeship path, it may take some additional schooling as well. If you happen to find a non-union shop that plays with these bigger toys, that could be an easy way into a seat too. Generally speaking though, yes to on the job training.
i didn't realize that Articulated Truck are noisy inside the cab. Engine is tolerable but the seat needs to be greased up by maintenance
I’m 23 yo, I operate the 740’s. They are awesome machines.
That’s rad! I wish I had started that young, you’re on a good path. It’s amazing what this big ol toys can do.
Awesome I'm 21 one I can operate this and an excavator through I need some advice don't know if this is the right place to be
@@trexgamra6975just get the hours in the seat and it will all come naturally
Volvo mutch better truck's...drive couple of separate series...big diference
