Well after owning the Tramontina Tri-Ply stainless steel cookware set for 4 years, it has now become dangerous. The rims of all my pots are exposed. You can clearly see the 3 metals being ex...

A grill that I can transport easily when needed, like to a day at the lake or overnight camp. After doing a lot of research I decided on the Weber Q 1200. The size was perfect for my small family.

    Yeah that's a definite design flaw. That top lip should be flared outward anyway so that you can pour things out of them without making a mess. Take a look at the Cuisinart Multi-Clad pro series. The 12-piece set is right around $200. I've had it for about 4 years now and could not be happier. I haven't had this problem of them starting to delaminate and the top lip is flared outward like it should be. So not only does that exposed edge of aluminum not common contact with your food but things pour out more smoothly like I mentioned. I honestly can't think of a single complaint I have about them. They feel like they're built to last a lifetime. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

    Funny that All-Clad exhibits the exact same problem. The cause? Dishwasher detergent is dissolving the aluminum ply over time, forming a sharp edge. To avoid this, simply wash by hand. Those lacking elbow grease can run through the dishwasher without soap while still freshly soiled, leaving them either clean, or close enough to finish easily by hand. (My dishwasher has a Rinse & Hold function that works perfectly for this.) Adding, as others point out, that some emery paper or wet/dry sandpaper can be used to smooth rims affected with this problem. (This was originally my only suggestion, but Googling the issue quickly revealed that All-Clad owners suffer similarly -- suggesting to me that Tramontina is not guilty of egregiously cutting corners, in order to reach a price point.)

    Thanks for this as I have been considering purchasing a set of these. One question. Were you washing these in the dishwasher? Just curious if that may have an effect. Regardless, this should not be happening. I see some people commenting that you could sand or file down the rims. I think they're missing the point. You shouldn't have to!

    • @pinchingpennys9570
      @pinchingpennys9570 3 года назад

      Yes, the pots were washed regulary using the dishwasher. I use Cascade complete dishwasher detergent from Costco. I believe its the detergent that is causing the issue. I have two pans that came with this set that have no problem or issue as I hand wash these. I believe Tramontina should not have put "dishwasher safe" in their description when selling these pots and pan or at the very least have a warning and let us know what specific dishwasher detergent we can use that will not cause this issue. Or they can just put "hand wash only" when selling these and that would work. As of today, I continue to use the pots and pans daily as I do like them, just being careful around the edges. The frugalness in me won't allow me to throw a perfectly good pot and pan away. If I had to do it all again, I would look for a stainless steel set that is truly dishwasher safe and had glass lid so you can see if your food is done instead of constantly opening the the lid during cooking with the stainless steel lid.

    • @pinchingpennys9570
      @pinchingpennys9570 3 года назад

      I have been using full size griddle on every campout and have no problem with it as long as you keep the lid open when using it. If you close the lid, the flame will die out as there is not enough oxygen to keep the flame going. If you forgot while cooking and closed the lid. I can see how dangerous it can be when the flame dies out and now you have gas being built up in your weber grill. Also having a 3rd party accessories on your weber grill will void your warranty. so there's that. so if your worried about explosion and fire, I would stick with using the half size griddle made by weber.

    Although the pitting will not cause any performance issues with the pan, the pitting typically is caused one of two things: 1, the pan was put in the dishwasher 2, the pan was left to soak in a sink of soapy water. You should not be cut because of the edges, if so you may want to consider returning it.
