Everything I wish I knew about Crochet Before I started | advice and tips for Absolute Beginners
Hey everyone! Todays video is an advice video on everything I wish I knew before I started crochet (condensed down to 8 pieces of information). I have learned how to crochet for over a year and a half now and I’ve picked up some tips and tricks as to how to learn and introduce yourself to crochet in a manageable way for absolute beginners. I’ve taught my boyfriend and a few of my friends how to crochet so I’m also taking my experience from that to help guide you into learning crochet in a stress-free (ish), fun way.
Any questions please let me know! I can do a follow up video to this if you want me to do an introduction to crochet video (I have an old one but I want to redo it). As I menti...

    I really enjoy your crochet videos and the patterns you come up with, they are unlike any others I have found online and they are just my style! You have an excellent thing going here. I think someone that would really up your editing and videos would be investing in a proper microphone - I’ve heard that if you have good audio, it instantly makes your videos seem of a higher quality. They have some cheap ones about online that would probably do the trick! I can’t wait to see what new patterns you come up with

    The tip about frogging is great. I’m trying to get into the “no effort is wasted” mindset and this really helps. Other than that your experience (and most others) as a beginner sounds totally different from mine, which is so great and interesting.

    The only exception to the lifgter coloured yarn tip is… white yarn. Am I the known one who struggles to see white yarn as much as black yarn? 😅

    When I started crochet I was taught to make bennie with the complicated the V-cluster stitch, many other stiches and follow a pattern and counting row. I started the evening and I finished the bennie the next day, with the help of my mother in love who taught me... so it really depends on how you learn and who teaches you. If you learn alone, may be a stitch or two in the beginning will work but if someone teaches you, just follow their guidance and if they think you can make difficult stitch right up the start, don't limit yourself, just go for it and follow their guidance

      Yes, this may be true in cases where you have a lot of time with someone who can crochet, and you can ask them for help :) thats amazing that your mother in law taught you, love it!

    You are so right, I have been crocheting for almost two decades now, and recently began working in an upscale yarn store. I bought in to this idea of luxury yarn (I couldn't even afford!!) And telling myself that it was working. (IT. WAS. NOT. WORKING.) The tik tok girlie's crucified me for loving acrylic. They dont realize it's how I learned... the smell and feel of acrylic yarn is such a nostalgic reminder of my one armed grandmother who could crochet like amachine! Red Heart is a historical staple of crochet, and no one should be ashamed for working with it.

    I do recommend that people start with the basics such as granny squares! I wish I had! That was one of the biggest thing that I wish I had learned first. Granny squares are so super fun and easy for beginners to get a foothold in crocheting world.

    • @ddevil_05
      @ddevil_05 7 дней назад

      the only bad thing about granny squares is that you need a lot of them to make anything out of it, so that might get some people easily bored. i personally started with some simple amigurumi so i’d actually have something physical in a pretty short time

    The only thing I wish I knew before learning how to crochet is how much it would make my wrist hurt 🥲 I would have found the perfect way to relax and decompress if only my wrist would allow me to 🥲

    • @divynecrochet
      @divynecrochet 7 дней назад

      Yes, sadly I know this does sometimes happen. when you get more into crochet you do need to make sure you aren’t over working your wrists and take time to stretch and take breaks :)

    • @catnipwarrior
      @catnipwarrior 6 дней назад

      The biggest thing for me with wrist pain was finding the right ergonomic hooks. I have carpal tunnel and crochet killed my hands with the regular metal hooks, but the ergonomic ones solved my issues alongside taking breaks!

    • @alicegaiba

    I haven’t tried this yet, other thing I’ve never done is granny squares 😂 being in Australia I prefer more open stitches that are nice and cool, no point crocheting thick things when it’s really only winter for one month a year (and not sure a Brit like you would call it winter at all but I had my first ever 13 degree Celsius day last winter and I swear I nearly froze to death 💯😭😂💯). Damn this is a random comment. Sorry 😬😂
