    Dude... Please STOP saying "add it in" before doing it! We can see you hitting the bypass button... and we should be able to hear the difference. That absolutely destroys the reference of what you're hearing and trying to hold in your head before and completely negates the A/B you're trying to show. Just stop talking when you do it, please. :^)

    i dont understand, why shouldn't i rely on just one compressor? why did you use so many?

    • @christianhaleofficial
      @christianhaleofficial 6 дней назад

      You don’t have to, but I find spreading the love across a few compressors can be a more natural sound. Sometimes if you overcompress with one plugin it can sound pinched and small. It’s all about what works for you and serves the song though - there’s no rules!!

    You leave a lot more warmth than i would, but the principle is still the same. And i find myself using a couple of channel strips combinations ( AMEK+ Neve or Neve+API) to do almost all of my EQ and compression... I still rock with what you did here tho. Really solid stuff 👌🏿

    I don't know, I think the guitars don't sound good for this song. The guitar distortion sounds like digital distortion. Trent Reznor did it well but for this genre....I would go with something with more even ordered harmonics.

    No matter what I do, it will only sound like a cheap home recording mp3 and never sound like a vinyl or cd quality balanced track. Loud mp3 guitars in the mix left and right and the rest of the music sounding swha-shwa 😅 I still only make $0.0000000007 per stream and I have to invest another $1.000.000 in plug ins to make it sounding a bit better. I can’t shake my old school proper recordings in the studio, but of course I shouldn’t complain either to make music at home! Anyways your advice and channel is much appreciated!! Thank you!

    • @christianhaleofficial
      @christianhaleofficial 12 дней назад

      I understand the frustration of your music not sounding as good as you know it can. I’ve been there!! The good news is that you can work on your skills and see your music improve over time. It’s just an incremental process. As someone that’s done this full time for awhile now, I’d be embarrassed for you to hear some of the stuff I was making 6 or 7 years ago 🫣🫣. You can also get really good results without spending a ton on plugins. Check out a fairly recent video I made on mixing a vocal with free and stock plugins as an example. You got this 👊🏽

In my mind it would still be best if I just handed my recordings to a Pro who ensures top quality results but that will be too costly :) I got to learn to be happy and improve my skills and keep the faith, I do believe I have got good ears and that's a start, haha.. Thanks for the encouragement! Cheers

    I’ve recently just gotten hip to the ozone exciter. It is really cool. Glad to see how you are using it in context I would love a good explanation on the difference between Clippers, saturators, exciters, expanders, maximizers and limiters. I see all these kind of plug-ins, but don’t really understand what they do and why they should be used

    • @christianhaleofficial
      @christianhaleofficial 13 дней назад

      Love that - great idea! For starters, I would mess around with any of these tools on various sources and just see what happens. If there’s a track you would normally add compression to, try clipping or saturation for example. Or maybe there’s some frequencies you want to boost, then try multi band saturation. That’ll be the best way to see learn the differences in a practical way.

    So out of curiosity, since you have Melodyne studio, why don't you do timing in Melodyne, that way you can layer all your other pitch corrected blobs together and time / tune them all at once? Great video! I work with Melodyne a lot and you definitely covered a lot of what other RUclipsrs fail to really mention. I.e., blobs vs lines, and stressing the importance of cutting a performance into proper blobs you can work with! Anyway, great tutorial, highly recommend, hope you have a great week!

      @christianhaleofficial 21 день назад

      Hey! Thanks for the kind words, and glad you’re digging the content. Regarding time correction, a lot of it is just a comfort / workflow thing for me. I do a lot of subtle pocketing straight in the DAW while I’m cutting & comping vocals in real time, and am fast at doing it in protools. I know tons of great producers that time correct in Melodyne and get awesome results. I think it’s helpful to know how to do both!

    • @christianhaleofficial
      @christianhaleofficial Месяц назад

      I typically roll with 48k/24 bit, sometimes 16 bit. And I have a loaded Mac Studio that can handle whatever processing I need. For what I’m doing, I find that gives me what I need, but I’m sure someone much smarter than me can tell me why I should be rolling with 96k!

    • @thetylersherman
      @thetylersherman Месяц назад

      Depends on the tools you have at hand. The biggest apparent issue with mixing at a lower sample rate would be with "foldback" distortion on saturators, EQ, and compressors that add color. Any plugin with an oversampling feature internally multiplies the sample rate to avoid foldback, so you may not necessary need to mix at a higher sample rate. If you want to learn more, check out Dan Worrall's video "Samplerates: the higher the better, right?" ... great resource. I will say, I always TRACK at 96KHz because it allows me to get much lower latency while monitoring with compression plugins (2-6ms vs 6-13ms at 48KHz).

    The vocals sound very professional and pop: compressed, high in energy, nice pressure, little fried in a good way! You did a great job, my friend, thanks for the video. You deserve more subs!

      Thanks so much man 👊🏽. So glad you’re finding this valuable. I’ve been at the producing / writing / mixing thing for a good bit now, but I’m still only half a year into the education and content side. So I’ll keep on bringing the goods and not slowing down anytime soon!
