ENCODERS - How do they work? - DIY vs Commercial
In many applications, where we use electric motors, we need to know the speed or position of the motor shaft. To do this we use encoders, but how do they work? In this video we will explain in detail how a quadrature encoder works.

Making a balancing cube - CUBLI inspired - Part 1: Setting up a 1 DOF test bench.
Просмотров 33 тыс.4 года назад
In this video series we are going (or at least try) to make our own version of the CUBLI, based on Arduino. Original CUBLI video: ruclips.net/video/n_6p-1J551Y/видео.html In this first part we will make a test bench to test the balancing capabilities of the system in only 1 degree of freedom.

I bought similar looking hall sensors but I can’t get them to work. They don’t seem to detect a magnetic field. I checked the pin layout multiple times to make sure I got it right but nothing works with those. And I don’t understand why u need a resistance

So I just tried to make this balance with this motor and I don't think it is possible. The motor is a very high rpm (1000KV) and low torque motor (torque is much more important for this application). It takes this motor a few seconds(!) to change direction, which I think is because it is a sensorless brushless motor. This means it will just fall over when you try to tell it to change directions. Also you likely need a way to measure the angular velocity of the wheel, eg an encoder, so you can account for that in your control algorithm. There's a few other youtube videos with working examples.

Yeah don't bother with this guy. He probably saw the Cubli video and thought "I can make that" but when he actually tried it he found out it was too difficult and stopped (hence no updates in over a year...)

I have done sucesfully similar project. You can check out here ruclips.net/video/8RsnoAd-GSI/видео.html. For your problem with motor i recommend using pmsm motor, or cheaper and easier - dc motor. We are controlling the torque here, and in dc motors torque is directly related to current (with torque constant specific to the motor), so by controlling the current you can control the torque.
