Purim is the holiday which commemorates the (Divinely orchestrated) salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian empire from Haman’s plot “to destroy all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.” We celebrate Purim with listening to the Megillah (story scroll of Purim), Sending gift baskets of food to friends, giving extra tzedakah charity and eating a sumptuous meal.
