Tekki Heat Riding Group Season Closer Meet 2024 + New Gopro Hero 2024 Audio and Video Test
Dropped by Tekki Heat's season closing meet for 2024. Decided to try out Gopro's new mini Hero myself as there wasn't a lot of sample footage or tests on YT.
The camera is very small, but has a few limitations compared to the much more expensive Hero 13:
- Stabilization has to be done in-app as it isn't done in cam
- External audio is not supported via Bluetooth or the pro mic adapter
- Fixed battery
- No image adjustments or variable frame rates (4K30 or 2.7K60)
I setup the camera using the out of the box setup and shot some footage in low light conditions. You can get a sense of the in camera mic and how the stabilization fares after I exported it from the Quik app.

How Is The (2022+ HD Nightster) Switchback Seat For 2-Up Riding?
Просмотров 178Месяц назад
A few have asked what the switchback seat looks like for 2-up riding. The rear pillion is shorter than the stock pillion that comes with the Nightster Special or from the Harley Davidson P&A catalog for those considering either seat on the regular Nightster. My backpack is about 5'3" and 110lb, so you can get a sense of the passenger position and comfort. The right passenger peg sits right abov...

Insta360 One X4 Front Mounted Selfie Stick 6 Inch Footage Samples

Most 360 videos on the tank or handlebars are too close to the bike or too close to the rider. I used a 6 inch Insta360 selfie stick (27" extended) and moved it just far away enough to get a better angle. Can extend 2 segments in the city and I leave it fully collapsed for highway riding. Generally, any luggage attached to a sissy bar/luggage rack isn't meant for extended mounting. It is meant to be taken off when you get your destination. I lock them so it is at least a deterrent if I leave my bike outside for an hour or so or at a gas stop/break. If someone really wants to steal your stuff, there really isn't much you can do to completely make it secure. A balance of compromise when you ride...

    Does this seat sit lower than the OEM seat? Do you know if the seat is comfortable for the passenger?

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      The switchback seat seems to sit slightly higher than the oem seat and it does push you forward about an inch. I'm 6'2 and I find it was slightly reduces the space for my legs on the pegs, but the trade-off is the material is very grippy and you will not slide back when pushing the bike hard. The switchback pillion seat as also shorter than the oem pillion seat, but my wife doesn't find it uncomfortable riding backpack (she is ~100lbs).

    • @nhiwii22
      @nhiwii22 Месяц назад

      @@jayphotoworkswith the passenger seat being shorter than the OEM, did the passenger have trouble using the sissy bar? Seems like they would need to scoot off the seat to reach the sissy bar.

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks Месяц назад

      @@nhiwii22 Because the rider seat pushes you forward a bit, the raised part of the rider seat extends out to the passenger seat and the actual passenger seating surface area is about the same, but is a bit further away from the sissy bar backrest. My wife rides up close with me and doesn't rest on the backpad or hold on to the sissy bar, so YMMV. I think it might be possible to find an aftermarket back pad that is a bit thicker to take up the difference. I just never looked into it.

    Did you use the license plate relocation kit from Harley? Was it easy to do? Can it be used without the saddlebags mounting kit?

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      The detachable saddlebag system cannot be mounted without the turn signal relocation kit. It also isn't a quick trivial install either as you have to extend cables and re-wire them. HD now also offers a throw-over saddlebag kit P/N: 90202693 for the Nightster. You just need to install the support bracket P/N: 90202689 and it doesn't require the light relocation kit. It is a fraction of the price as well, but it doesn't have quite the same aesthetic or mount quite as securely as the detachable saddlebag option.

    • @nhiwii22
      @nhiwii22 2 месяца назад

      Thanks so much for the info. I’ve been looking into them and it looks complex and was just going to do the plate relocation without messing with the turn signal but not a lot of aftermarket parts for it. Was going to look at throw over bags.

    Nice film, question would you trust the gps mount on a naked bike (so not behind a fairing?? )

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      It's very low profile and the strap is solid and tight. If you were concerned, you could add a cable tie across the strap around your handlebars. When the gps remote itself is inside the holder, it will 100% not come out. It takes some effort to squeeze it in and out, so it is snug.

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      I think that's fair. For me, it is adequate for running around town with the occasional long distance jaunt. Cruisers aren't generally known for having great mpg or range. Many have larger displacement v-twins and are relatively heavy compared to other styles of bikes.

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      The Nightster takes 3 gallons of fuel and the indicator is not terribly accurate to begin with. On my special there was a software update because it was triggering the fuel light at 1/4 tank instead of 1/8 tank after the update. I believe it can get ~115 miles range on a full tank. A softtail standard in comparison takes 3.5 gallons and gets ~130 miles in comparison.

      I know when they first released this seat, there was a tech bulletin published for it because the tether cable was mounted in the incorrect place causing the seat to not raise far enough to actually refuel the bike. That was earlier this year. I waited until May or so and the new seats already had this fixed. I paired the ace pro with Lexin G2P and the mic quality is horribly bad. When i connect the Lexin G2P to my android phone and record with phone, the sound is amazingly good. It seems that the bluetooth protocol of the ace pro prefers low bandwidth connections. Im pretty sure we bought an overpriced product with bad coded firmware. :(

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 2 месяца назад

      The sound is equally bad on both the Ace Pro and Hero 12, so I'm guessing the communicator is connecting with HFP over CVSD (a very old codec from 2002). The Lexin might be using HFP 1.6 which can use mSBC which is a bit better than CVSD while still being mono. Many bluetooth mics (OnyxGo, Razer Seiren and I believe the new DJI Mic 2) use A2DP which allows much higher quality, but A2DP isn't bidirectional. There isn't much transparency here with either the communicator or action cam manufacturers so we have to do these tests ourselves. I do have a Cardo Edge incoming, so I'm going to add this to my test later and see if there is any difference (doubful)..

      Insta360 needs to have better accessory compatibility overall. I understand manufacturers want to capitalize on accessory sales with each generation, but some of these limitations hamper content creation. This is great. The mic quality between the 50S and the Neotec is abismal. I own a Schuberth C5. It has embedded comms based on the Sena 50S but I haven't tested properly the mic quality for Vlogging. I expect it to be on par with the shoei from this video. But at least now I understand why most people don't vlog directly from their comms: Most usually use the clip on / external systems that aparently don't have the best mics.

    • @jayphotoworks
      @jayphotoworks 3 месяца назад

      The bitrate/codec being used seems to be heavily compressed which really detracts from the overall production quality. Even the GoPro itself paired to any of these BT comms have the same issue so it is definitely originating from the comm unit itself.

      Doesn't the new Ace Pro firmware specifically add the ability to connect with a set of motorcycle helmets? It names SENA, Cardo, LEXIN, ASMAX, AiRede, and more.

    That Sena thing was so weird! Hope they can fix that with a firmware update. Would be great to be able to pair the Ace Pro with my Sena to motovlog without wires! Keep us updated on what happens. Thanks

    Thanks for this video. That audio speed-up thing happened to me in a different way a few months ago when I connected my Cardo headset to my phone. The audio from both Google Maps and Calimoto came back at a super sped-up rate. I had to reconnect a few times for it to fix itself. Was pretty crazy as I was on unknown roads in a mostly foreign country.

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I have a sena 50S and am very interested in giving it a try but the 50% speed reduction seems like a PIA to get it to work. Oh, and a BIG thumbs up.

      I've now gone back and tested this a few times with the Ace Pro and it is sped up every single time. It is always exactly twice as fast. If they fix this in firmware, it would be a great solution for some simple moto vlogging. That being said, being able to connect is an improvement already because I cannot even pair my 50s with the Insta360 One X3 I have.. It never comes up for pairing in the UI even though the process seems identical for both cameras.

    Looks like a Toy camera with that lens hahahaha. How crazy. Would be great if it was a weather sealed lens. Would make a great run and gun setup
