Dodge RAM Van Holley 2280 carb rebuild
We rebuild the Holley fuel bucket and get carried away with looking at the heater as well, lets just say the van is now in even more bits.

Carb Trouble and delete the smog! It's in different bits now.
Просмотров 167Месяц назад
Well the pile of bits detached from the Dodge is growing. BUT this is making real progress on reliability and drivability. The Holley is off and being stripped, the smog stuff is off and we are making the 318 a simpler piece of kit.
Mistakes will be made! We look at some of the work we have done to the Dodge earlier this year

Welding, metal work, engine dress up, it's all here. The Dodge gets some more attention.
What's Going On?

The Dodge, Goldwing and Astro Van, what's going on this year? Where have we been, what's happened? Life! That's what, but here is a little explainer. We are very aware that some channels disappear for years with no explanation, which can be frustrating to those kind enough to subscribe. We are still here, but very, very busy.
The Landrover is going!

The time has come, Marc needs to slim down his toy box. So this is the last impromptu hoorah in the Series 2A. We didn't plan to film this so the sound is a bit windy in places but hey, we are out and about making memories and that's what counts right? Marc has done a whole bunch of work to the truck and it's now running sweet. Music is Guts and Bourbon -by Kevin MacLeod so check him out.

You could have counted the barrel fins, 600cc 9 fins, 500cc 8.
You're joking! Thanks for the tip, we'll have a look.
Total incompetence love it Ed
Bloody hell, it runs😮
Of course it runs!
...the spring saga! 1.53 - you put it down to your right...🤣🤣🤣 So glad it's not just me that goes through this pain.
Love watching this
Great video! Egr valve always in closed position. So you don’t have to remove it. Just unplug the vacuum.
Good point! That'll make it easier 👍
... hello Marc!
Hi Dom, Marc says "Hi"
😂... you display my own frustrations! Very watchable. You need a break like #autofunk had with Johnny Smith. When's the next installment?
Out now!👍😃
Did it work?
I'm thinking having the fuel bottle supported so high up above the carbs gave them way too much fuel pressure....causing a very over rich condition as soon as the bike tried to fire. Good to see you got it going with the tank later. Smoke on start up not unusual but should go away within a few moments. If not, could be a sign of worn valve guides (inlet), worn inlet valve seals, piston ring wear or even oil drainage hole blockage in the rocker box floor.
Hi. I thought I'd reach out and say that I recently bought this car :)) didn't realise about the history it had until the previous owner sent me this video. I'm pleased to say it's running well, it's now rust free, and it's getting a few more quality of life updates like a Bluetooth head unit!
Hi, Thanks for the comments, I heard it had been sold on again. I loved that car, it drove with no issues all the way to Northern Italy in 2019 and did many Alpine passes as well as a 16 hour cannonball from Southern Germany across France and home. I hope you have as much fun as I did.
PS the off side front wheel hub trim is on an Italian motorway somewhere, sorry!
@@anotherpieceofskrap27 Thanks so much, I appreciate it. Unfortunately a few week after buying it, someone pulled out of a T junction into the side of it. No major damage but insurance wrote it off 😥 I'm getting it repaired and back on the road though, she has many more years left
Nooooooo, that's gutting. So glad to hear you are able to get it back on the road, far to nice a car scrap. Let us know how you get on
I’ve seen more strength in a cup of tea ☕️
🤣🤣🤣🤪
What happend to her eagle spare tire :( shes a beauty regardless
Good question, the door hinge pins didn't like the weight of the spare, new hinge pins fitted but working on a way not to kill them again. I miss the look, thinking of a way to get the cover back on without a heavy wheel maybe.. Thanks for the comment, 😎👍
Looks like you should have drained the sump before trying to start the norton..
Found this channel through a car
Welcome aboard 👍
Looks like most of the oil had drained into the sump.
Having twin Mk1 Concentric carbs tells you nothing. In the time we replaced Monoblock carbs without batting an eyelid they were so much easier to work on. Wet sumping, personally I first address the problem at source. If in any doubt I fit a new 850 Comando Oilopump. Then If I ride the bike once a week. If I don't ride the bike once a week I will drain the sump before starting. That takes 10 minutes with a big spanner. Chaincase Oil leaks are chronic on Dominators. You should tension the chaincase till you see two threads. If any person in the last 60 years has overtightenned the chaincase it is distorted nobody will fix it. In that case you clean your clutch, use the maximum of top quality gasket glue around the big rubber gasket. Then you use automatic transmission fluid drained to the absolute minimum drained by the oil level in the chaincase. That is an oilo level not a drainplug. OK there are other solutions. On my Café racer I addressed both this and the motors chronic bad breating $$$. Standard breather blocked off, cdrank drilled to take a nourish crank breather, handmade aluminium chaincase. Nourvil Belt drive, with nourvil clutch. As I was advised by Peter Williams I add an extra metal plate to the clutch, it makes the clutch pressure so much lighter
Thanks for the info, unfortunately don't get chance to ride the Norton very often.
Those carbs are Concentrics, not Monoblocs. I don't think they would have been the original carbs.
Hello Ed, you can buy new Crankcase Breather Cap and pvc valve. So you don’t have to paint yours ) you need to change them anyway on certain intervals.
Hi, good point, the plastic doodad I left in the cover, I simply couldn't remove, the breather cap, not shown on video, was cleaned a lot with car cleaner and acid dipped (white vinegar) amazing stuff. The internal baffle type plates inside the upper part of each cover had the same and physically cleaned with a bottle brush, lots of gunge! I will, however order new stuff in due course, just building up another mountain size order. Thanks for the comment and for watching 😃👍
Love watching always makes me laugh 😂
Good to see you back here Ed 👍 Family always comes first, hope everything is OK.
Thanks Andy👍
How can i get in touch with you guys?! I need a 1275 morris minor engine.
Look, the 650SS was basicly a 600SS with a longer stroke crank. If you want to know what it is, lift the head off measure the stroke. I suspect you could just drop a 650SS crank into a 600SS motor and you are good. Maby the factory did this, maby some guy like me in my garage. The carbs on your bike are Mk1 concentric not Monoblock. That tells you nothing. As Monoblock wore out you automaticly replaced them with Concentric which were easier to adjust. I run 2 nortons, a concours 650SS 1963 and A 1964 750 . Café racer production race tuned. The Norton motor is simple and it is easy to swap parts between models. Let me give you an example. I took a 1949 Model 7 500cc that was rusting in a garden, dropped in a 750 crank, 750 barrels, sphered and gas flowed the head out to 32mm carbs. Nobody could understand how a 1949 500cc bike could drag the lights against Japanese 4s
I have a 63 650SS and a 64 Atlas. From what I could see you have A Lucas K2F magneto so you don't need a battery to start. You have Amal concentric Carburetors, not standard for 63 but they work very well on my 64 Atlas. Set the airscrew at 1 and a half turns, play with the slider height, play with the choke slider. I don't actualy use a choke slider in the concentric, but that is on a race tuned engine. Probably your biggest problem is that Norton Twins Wet Sump. If left for more than a week oil drains from the Oil tank through the rotary oild pump and fills up the crankcase with oil. Then, when you try to kicfkstart you are fighting against oil. Crank turns slowly, magneto turns slowly, poor spark, knackered leg. If not used recently drain the crankcase via the BIG drain plug at the bottom of the case. The bike will start easier, believe me. Either ride it once a week or drain the sump.
Get it street legal but leave the body as it is love it ❤🔧⚓🤠 JB
You aren’t on the centreline
I just went there
Is that a Aplus engine 1275 ?
Well done mate that looks a great job, keep the front trunnion and pedal shaft well lubed
Valve Guides . . not Sump.!
When I was 16 in 1963 we were based at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus. Friends with older RAF guys one of whom had a 650ss. Loved it, but my own biking started with a Yamaha yds3 and wonderful Triumphs a new 1968 T100T followed by new Tridents, T150 and later a T160….VFRs CBR 1000 and last bike back to Triumph with a Hinkley Trident 😃Happy Days.
Could be a 650 top end
Thanks for the video!! I have the same shifter but need to replace the inner part where it shows the gears ,.. know where I can buy that?
A shame to be selling after all the work, hopefully the Morris Minor will now get much needed attention! Has the aluminium been clear-coated or is it a case of regular polishing? Looks great! Thanks for sharing!
It's a case of regular polishing / brilo pad! Marc will have a lot more time now to look at the Morris, so we look forward to seeing how he gets on, despite our "help" Thanks for watching 😎👍
If you check out a couple of our shorts they show very old video cassette footage taken when I had iit in 2002, it was yellow then. Very good off road.
That's my wedding car
A fitting tribute, I hope the new owner has as much fun in it as we had.
@anotherpieceofskrap27 Hello mate, I found out today that I actually own your old Mazda MX5 NB :) I uninstalled the soft top today as I never intended to use it and it was making a knocking sound whilst driving, after putting the soft top up for the first time in what looked like a very very long time, I saw your RUclips sticker! Went back in the video history and low and behold, there's my car!!! If you're around in the south west / Devon / Somerset area if you wanted to we could meet up so you could see the car again, I'll even take ya out for a drive in it. :) It's had a lot of work done to it in the last year or so (during my ownership) thought you might be interested in hearing about it seeing what resulted :D
Hi, yes I heard it had gone to a good home, it would be good to see it and see what you have been up to, thanks for reaching out. I would love a spin out in it. Somerset and Devon iseasy for us. 😎👍
@@anotherpieceofskrap27 Ideal, got some way for me to chat with you besides a RUclips comment ? (Email or social media or something) Id love to arrange a day where we could meet up :)
@@anotherpieceofskrap27 Ideal, do you have some contact information besides the RUclips comments you can give me ? So we can discuss arranging a date / time to meet up :) :) :)
@@anotherpieceofskrap27 I've replied like 4 times but all my comments keep getting held back. Need some way to connect besides comments so we can arrange to meet. Hopefully this comment goes through. :)
Find us on Instagram, that's probably a simple way. 👍 ps if you look at a couple of our shorts driving in the Alps were done in the MX5
thats a simulation
turn the brightness down on those instruments holy
Looks like it was a bt van at one time.
Hi, yes spot on, it was 😃
Your lucky there guys you even have the beep or inteligent alarm backup that works.
Thanks Paul. It Needed some adjustment to make it fit.
That's coming on nicely
Thanks for the upload guys. I’m sure however you do the moggy it’ll be a good fix. 👍🇬🇧
I think the only bit on the chassis that will need repairing is on the near side under the passenger door if my memory serves me well from when I owned it, be nice to see it back on the road
I prefer the Tracy Chapman version but oh well! What’s up with the VW?
Clutch, but while it's in bits, cambelt, alternator, water pump pretty much everything I think
Looking forward to it!👍🇬🇧
O dear 😢
Looking good mate
Err, can we have a video on the Morris van please??
We're working on it😃👍
Done, just need to edit the thing😀👍
@@anotherpieceofskrap27 brilliant mate! Looking forward to it. Which one of you owns that? I’d bloody love a moggy van. 👍
The Moggie is Marc's, so a little out of our control on getting it done.
