The Kentucky Geological Survey's RUclips page is here to provide current information pertaining to Kentucky geology, mineral and water resources and the survey's online services. KGS conducts research, collects data, and serves as the State's official archive for data on petroleum, coal, minerals, groundwater, and topographic and geologic maps. Research investigations include the study of water resources, geologic mapping, oil and natural gas resources, coal and minerals, and geologic hazards some of which are highlighted on this channel.

Hi sir may I ask how sir Keep rock data in qr code can you help me
Thank you for very wonderful insight's.
So, this basically determines the chip sample and does correlation into well stratigraphic section.
belonging to "Group 3", do La and Ac have three valence electrons?
What are common properties of all four elements in "Group 3" ?
Wearing a mask in front of a camera makes me wonder if you're even a real scientist.
This video is from 3 years ago when COVID restrictions were at their worst lol
Thank you
👍👏👏👏👏
love the hi-tech mountain dew apparatus
I start my journey by watching a tutorial about how to draw a car 5 hours later and here I am
Cool jazz!
thank you sir!
Thanks for sharing this video...
This is the best kind of science: it’s fascinating, it tells a compelling story, it’s achieved using sweet sweet tools, and the physical object providing the data is incredibly beautiful!
I enjoyed your video. Geology & paleontology are hobbies of mine. I did take 2 geology classes at the University of Maine many yrs ago. I fell in love with it. I am from NB, Canada. we went on 2 geo field trips to Quebec, One near Quebec city. The other to The Gaspe, Quebec. I am unable to go searching anymore because of my health. Where I live is mainly limestone { good potato country}. we are near the upper end of the Appalachians. Hi from Sue in Canada.
I am geologist and agree with u , Really geology is fantastic Science. Its spreading peace and beauty in our mind.
Great value information, with poor presentation!
I'd love to get a job like this if possible with only a bachelor degree
Thank you for this demo.
Great Video... I sit here smiling... because I'm one of those "Old Timers" that was a Mud logger way back in the late 70s & early 80s... We didn't have ANYthing like computers, etc... We gathered our samples, every 10' and we had a magnifier... and something like a Gas Chromatography... and we had to know our samples by looking and knowing what there were, without testing.... I made $75. a day for 12 hours a day... some times working for 30 straight days without a day off... Personally I loved doing coring... not samples to be caught. I also became a Mud Chem. Engineer later... Even though I'm 64 years old.. I'm applying for a Mudlogging job... Wish me well...
Wish you best of luck 🤝 and $75 in 12 hours back in the days was huge deal
Hi Judi, I would like to share your experiences as mudlogger, I was recently apply Mudlogging job. Can I reaching you by email? thanks.
We definitely want renewable and green energy solutions in Kentucky.
Fascinating, thanks. Good education material. Noticed what might be a typo. "Atlas Copoco".
Im data ing . In france and we never colect simple like that . We collect it in shaker Sorry about my english
I was thinking the same thing when I was a Mud logger back in the 80s
How do I apply? Lol

Nicely done. Thanks for sharing. I do believe we have more extensive rock outcrops here in Arizona.
Great video , it makes me want to graduate fast from college and straight to a job as a logging geologist.
If the productive horizon is at depth of 2700 m and it consists of sandstone with good porosity and permeability can we use ERD system and fracking only without water? Could the change of pressure lead to gas leakage into the hole and up? Could we call such gas deposits conventional?
Thanks for all your views and comments. For the negative comments on the catching and analyzing of the drill cuttings! We were filming while we were tripping out of the hole with a barrel of core as I mentioned!!! There were no pumps on the hole therefore no flow. That is why we acted out catching the samples with a strainer and did not test, test, test the drill cuttings that we caught, tested and analyzed many hours prior!!! Much love, JCB
Hello sir
I need some help in learning mud logging can you help me
Would you consider this a good job for a Geology & Physics major fresh out of undergrad?
+Seth Hi Seth! Yes working for a mudlogging company would be a perfect entry level job for someone interested in petroleum geology. It would be a great way for you to gain valuable experience in oil and gas operations, and learning subsurface geology.
For a general geology major yes it's good, not necessarily a physics major no, but it still gets your feet wet and it has good pay for an entry level job @@precisi0n86
@@precisi0n86 Hi man i have done my graduation In Geophyscis but there are not much jobs which i can get, can you tell me a good entry level or fresher job for my field ?
@@precisi0n86 Thanks aloot for replying and Yes, i have done few Internships in Top companies where i live but after that there is no Job opening for Freshers rn and its been more than 6 months. After Corona it's quiet frustrating because no one hiring rn infact laying there employee's off
Thank you Jeff! and Kentucky Geological Survey!
Thank you all for such lively discussions. Though we respect your philosophical debate please keep in mind this is an educational video designed for the general public and as such does not get into the nitty gritty of the job. Jeff and Les were at our drill site for several weeks, and we have condensed their work into a 6 minute preview. Everything that you see in this video had been previously analyzed, and the footage of Les collecting samples and Jeff analyzing them was a reenactment done specifically for this video. The people who worked on our drill site were very knowledgeable and we were very pleased with their contributions to this project.
Catching samples with a food strainer misses everything below the food strainer seive size.
Vertical wells and ten footers for the geologist don't miss those

Awesome presentation
Excellent..........thanks
who ever thought mudlogging could be so fascinating?
