FYI.......forget about screwing around with removing the black plastic. It will take you hours if you are lucky to get the screws out. Just cut it off with a Dremel. You don't need it. It just gets clogged up anyway and makes cleaning the inner electrodes impossible. You are Welcome.!

Well, I finally replaced the washing machine. The fix got me 9 more years use out of it though. 🙂

Guessing a solder joint or two needs resoldered.

I have the exact same washer and exact same E3 error problem. I installed the fan and switch 2 days ago and have done 5-6 loads with no error. Than you for sharing this fix. THIS is what the internet is good for!

I have one question on this.....if the starter is dead, does that affect just the bulb igniting, or does it also stop the screens from being electrified? I have a no light, no zap with my Stinger, the switch pilot light comes on, but only that.

i do have the older version of that model its been years sense i used it so i want to use it again

is it powerful like a flowtron? i know the new stingers are not as powerful as the old models

The real issue is the solder connections on the back side of the heat sinks need to be re-soldered, it's a bit of a job to get to the back side of the panel, but that fixed my issue.

the Stinger I'm working on doesn't have an obvious starter. It has a small thing that looks like a fuse. It that it?

The control board will also overheat if the motor and drum get hard to turn because water has leaked past the seals into the bearings and caused them to corrode. In that case the only solution is to replace the bearings before the board burns out.

This machine was built by Samsung.

Rather to change for a cheaper lamp starter it could be better to replace the expensive black light bulb for a cheaper conversion to a flourescent or led lamp painted of black or purple. So you save money from the black bulb replacement and energy supply.

I have a flowtron that had the bulb go south(and or starter). Seeing what was involved anyway I got curious. Seems mosquitoes aren't attracted to the blue - black - UV thing light. First they get the scent. Sweat CO2 or octenol(I think a component of sweat). That is far away. As they get closer they can detect an object by sight. Then within 10 feet they lock on with heat, IR. The above is my take on the various reports. So take with large grain of salt. But I decided that I wanted to kill mosquitoes, not everything attracted to any light. The standard zapper had killed tons of bugs, including a giant water bug( sometimes called a porch light bug. It could not be mistaken for a mosquito. Maybe a small mammal. But not on my hit list. Yeah the zaps and pops felt good, but it was mostly killing the wrong bugs. So, I removed the bulb and starter, drilled a hole and mounted a ceramic socket for a screw in 25 watt IR bulb. They are made to keep reptile pets warm. Turned it on and it hums and stays dark, and u can feel warmth. Kill anything? No idea yet. The next step is adding the bait that all the zappers use. I hope I have improved the mosquito deaths in my area. I truly hate them.

great on that problem and the fix,however...i got a uv15 that the bulb works but no high voltage across the screens,i wonder if bulbs get weak,is there a link that stops working that ties in with the transformer,both my bulbs are weak and if thats the case then i must try a new one to see if the high voltage runs again,i must take it apart and check circuits out for the high voltage.

Wow this is a piece of cake 🍰 for you. I have a stinger bk500 I have it for 3 summers already I use it indoors so it’s very clean and it served its purpose for killing bugs that sneak in when I open and close my door. But now when I plug it in all it does is the bulb flickers on and off and after about a minute or so it also Zapps on its own.what could the problem be?

I would never buy a washing machine that had all the "bells and whistles". My washer (KitchenAid) has five controls, all rotary knobs. Load size, temperature, extra rinse, fabric select (cottons and towels to delicate) and on/off. In twenty-two years I have had the repairman only once.

I have that Stinger as well as the smaller model - both which are broken. I found the starter to be burnt on this same model. The smaller unit doesn't have a starter in the circuit but the grid was arcing because it was broke through. i swapped electronics and light fixture in to the big Stinger from the small. Currently thinking of ways to increase output using a higher voltage transformer. These are weak sauce. Any suggestions on modding the circuit?

I have the same zapper as yours. I took it all apart and followed the steps you provided in the video. Very helpful. I bought the (FS2) fluorescent starter at Home Depot (2 pack) for $2.79 Bug zapper is working perfectly now. Thanks for the help.

i got one of these waters used a few weeks ago and it's been having the same problem. had a service technician come in and tell me that the board seemed to be overheating, and that ordering a new board would be over $450 (Cdn), and that it might need a new motor as well for about the same cost, not including installation costs (basically, it'd cost as much as just getting a new machine). the machine is already out of warranty, so your solution is worth a try, but i'm curious about the particular components you used (type of transformer, gauge of wire and how much you needed, and additionally, whether it would be better if the fan blew air onto the heatsink, or blew away from it)? i hope you can give a response soon, thanks! :)

Has anyone tried re-seating that heatsink? Removing it and reapplying some new thermal paste? I've got one with the exact same problem. Is E3 an overheating error? I understand the reasoning behind installing a fan, but there really isn't much airflow to that heatsink to begin with. A fan might not be necessary with some proper thermal paste and just a bigger opening for air flow.

I just finished implementing your fix on my washer. We tested it the other day, and the heatsink was very hot. We ran the washer with the control panel hanging off and a desk fan blowing at the back of the panel. It ran through several cycles without the error. I just finished cutting the hole and installing the fan and switch. I'm running a super wash load right now. So far so good! Thanks a ton for this video!

My Stinger (possibly a different model) does not have the starter bulb as yours does. There is instead what appears to be a capacitor(?) across the bulb contacts. I'm thinking about removing that and adding the starter. Any suggestions?

Hi great video. About to run to Radio Shack and pick up the same parts. What I'm unsure about is how you connected the transformer, fan and extension chord together. Did the transformer plug into the other end of the extension chord directly?
