How to Price Embroidery Jobs - Per Stitch vs Per Hour Method - FREE CALCULATOR
Can I order a few different hats and designs
Sorry, just seeing this. Sure, I have no minimums so it would just depend on what you’re wanting done.
If you had to buy 1 machine to start embroidering hats and garments, nothing crazy, just a small business starting out, what would you recommend?
I would recommend ZSK since that is what I switched to from a Chinese manufactured machine. Other brands to consider would be Tajima, Barudan or Happy but I’m team ZSK all the way.
@ Thank you!
Cool, who does your digitizing, if you dont mind sharing?
I do some but the majority is done by Vitor Digitizing (vitordigitizing.net)
Who does your digitising Corey?
Thank You! I am going to mess around with this today!
How would you price the embroidery if someone brings you a shirt with the Logo on left chest and name going down the sleeve? I don't have any idea what the stitch count is.
I price everything on time. You’ll have to figure out what hourly rate makes sense to you and what equipment you run. If you take customer supplied items I would charge extra and with the understanding that you’re not responsible to replace the garment should anything happen during the decorating process.
Hey. How do you solve the issue with thread bunching up on the cap seam-line on the inside of the cap? I have a 3d design that i put on a cap no problem(it has a center seam) but on another model of cap i just cant get it to work. I dont know what to try anymore. I tried tighter thread, looser thread, i tried slowing down the machine and no difference.
As long as the design is digitized for caps and 3D puff with the proper sequence and stitch settings you shouldn't have a problem. You can also try using an 80/12 needle versus a 75/11 needle as well.
Hello! What temperature did you set up for your heat gun?
I use the wagner heat gun that has temp and fan settings but I run it on medium/high heat and max fan speed. There is no specific temperature readout on the heat gun.
I looked in the description and was unable to find the calculator. Also what about a setup charge? How do you calculate that?
Your "setup" charge will depend on your needs. Are you outsourcing the digitizing, doing it yourself, etc. What is the time worth if you know how or do the design setup yourself or is it more cost/time effective to outsource and up charge your customer.
Been looking for this! Thank you!
Glad to help!
What stand are you using for your heat press?
Just a stainless steel table with shelf. 36”x36”.
Why is it fast. High speed for !.
Have to time lapse parts so people can get through it 😂
I'm not a pro at this, but I wouldn't drop the price per number of heads. The number of heads you have is not relevant to the customer. I understand your cost per hour idea, but more heads also require more space, more investment and therefore more overhead. I would consider whether your shop can handle the job with the number of heads you have to be more relevant, and if not, pass it along to a bigger shop that would be able to price it better. Most shops are not going to drop the price that drastically for 2-3 caps or even 12, so you're really cutting your bottom line here.
You would increase the hourly rate for all your combined heads to counteract the pricing “reduction”. More investment in machines warrants a higher price per hour based on the number of heads you operate. You’re just able to turn around the jobs much quicker with more heads.
What foam did you use ?
3mm dense embroidery foam.
Hi what is the size of the design.
2.25” tall
can i customize more? Pm me conan edogawa
Excellent video, both in content and quality. Thank you.
Thanks! I plan on producing more long form content soon!
What thread density did you use for your puff?
Machine name please 😊

@@CoreyPendergraft can i customize more?
What is a trim? Where do you add in the cost of stabilizer, thread, etc? TY
The cost of consumables are so low that those costs should be absorbed in the hourly rate. A trim is when the machine stops to cut the thread or move to a new color, thus taking slightly more time than figuring out the total number of stitches and how fast you run your machine. Each one of those trims roughly equate to 250 stitches of run time.
In your embroidery calculator you ask about number of heads, do you mean needles?
No, the number of heads. Number of needles on a machine only accounts for the number of colors you can run per design. If you had multiple "heads" of embroidery (whether that be two single head machines or a 4 or 6 head machine) you are able to load multiple substrates at one time thus outputting 2x, 4x, 6x in the same time a single head machine would produce the order. While the multi-head machines are more expensive, the cost per head goes down considerably and your output can be multiplied without needing additional operators.
Gotta say I downloaded your calculator and I finally feel like I’m in the right ballpark for my pricing. Thank you!
Great to hear! Glad it worked for you.
What theead do you use
I use Isacord and Madeira.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Brilliant tool to calculate pricing! I was so confused by the different pricing systems & yours works well for me.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll be getting back at producing more content as soon as my new work area is finished being built out.
nice
Thanks
Thank you very much! Great tool!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks!
Great idea and nice finish
Thanks!
Great info!! New Sub. Very interested in your ZSK, I have two single heads, Barudan Pro3 and a 2014 Tajima 15 needle, which actually stitches better than my Barudan. I am intrigued with the ZSK. Thanks
The ZSKs have been workhorses. They run great at high speeds and minimal maintenance. A lot of "small" features are great too, like the open presser foot, electronic presser foot adjustments and a bunch of other features that I have come to love!
can i hire you
Certainly, email me what you need at contact@signcodesigns.com
Thanks
No problem!
Thanks
Welcome
How might I get your calculator, please?😊
Hello, there is a link in the description of the video that will take you to the form to download the calculator 🙂
How can I get the calculator?
A link is in the description of the video that will take you to my website to download.
Can you do more videos on hats tips and tricks that would be appreciated 👌🤞🏽
I sure will and I will be doing my own online course for hats in the future too.
@@CoreyPendergraft 👌🤞🏽
Would love to see the process on how you digitized the logo every video I watch puts me to sleep your video is straight to it 👌🦾
That one can get a little long but I can definitely put something together for the rules of digitizing for 3D puff. 😎
I could never slip the sweat band under the tab. I feel that is where my problem starts. Is there a way to raise it? Could you do a video on how to properly hoop the hat for embroidery on the sides?
Sometimes the cap hoop tab can be bent down. You can attempt to bend up the tab with a flat head screwdriver or adjust the screws for the tab. While the machine I use allows you to stitch 270 degrees I do use a special clamp for the sides of caps and will do a video on that process for sure!
Maybe you'll explain digitizing for this? #hatchgang
Yes, I will go over the file created for the design I will be stitching.
How about if you have to do a bulk number like 50ea
You could handle bulk orders by making your hourly less or if you had multiple heads your pricing would naturally be reduced due to the volume you would be able to produce.
How do I get your pricing calculator? Thank you!
There is a link in the description but you can find it here: www.signcodesigns.com/youtube-contact
1 suggestion Look like you have a ZSK machine and the Hat station also have the plastic piece on to make sure its on the center. even if you just have 1 head it is good to get used to that
Yes, I do use the centering piece that comes down but I didn't want to feature that aspect since I have never seen that on any other machine's cap station (although I think it's an awesome feature). Thanks for the feedback!
Great information! Excited to utilize the spreadsheet. I’m very new, actually still waiting on my MT1502 to be delivered. 😂 Pricing is something I worry about undercharging, this will help me avoid that. Thank you. Love the colors behind you on your video. I also admire your embroidery work. Looking forward to learning more from you.
Thanks! I’m looking forward to creating more content!
Hi Cory, Good video, please turn up your volume in your mic. I downloaded the pricing calculator but couldn't get it to open. I also subscribed, so keep it up!
Audio will be corrected on future videos, thanks! You will need to use Excel, Numbers or open in Google Sheets to use the functionality of the calculator.
Great video thank you!
Thanks!
i would suggest that perhaps u smile a bit more- make it seem FUN 😃🤩
I’m not used to being in front of the camera, but noted 😉
