I just wanted to say that i'mm thinking of you and i hope you're okay. Love from the netherlands
Very inventive guttering. Well done! I'm sat watching this at home and hoping all you allotment holders are OK. So far today Storm Lillian has blown my tomatoes and cucumbers over and flipped my greenhouse window backwards over into my neighbours garden. Goodness only knows how your site is. I'm keeping everything crossed your site survives 😮
You have a beautiful farm. Nice to see you here, wishing you the best.❤
Hello Sherry I visited your channel, watched some of your videos. Excellent videography and presentation. But unfortunately your video has very few viewers. If you want I can increase your video views a lot. It is 100% guarantee. Please don't consider me a scammer . You can test me. Thank you
I'm so sorry, Sherry. Grandmas can be very special people, and I would know--I have occasionally referred to mine as my soulmate. I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes your way. 🌼
Apart from Robins appearing when loved ones have past bird feather are another sign they are close by 🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶
Ps you know I’ve never thought of growing mini corn Gerald loves it 👍, see even us old farts always find something to learn 👍
Oh I am so sorry my Nan was a very very important person to me, she taught me to knit sew and yes garden. It is from her I find my love of gardening and I am sure your nan is chuffed that she is on the tube with us ❤. I plant a tree or have a yard item that is dedicated to someone we have lost and I literally say hi or talk to them as I go by. My borage moved super easy as I found it in the grass 🤦♀️. Much love and hugs, Ali 🌤️🇨🇦
So sorry for your loss
So very sorry for your loss. It's never easy, thank you for being brave enough to share the real you with us
So sorry for your loss, I’m sure nana will be watching over you whilst you garden. I keep an eye out for Robins, I know either my nan or great auntie are watching when they appear. ❤
My condoleances❤
Hello Sherry, you are doing very well on your plot so far! Keep going, small steps it can get very overwhelming in the garden or plot especially as the weather is so changable, I was out in my garden last night putting in some poor flowers that needed to go in the ground & found two big slugs on the top of my netting covering the broccoli bed! Slugs everywhere, but things still manage to grow some how. Just keep doing a little at a time, you will get there in the end! Suexx🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
You are doing a fantastic job, keep up the great work. Can I just say from your first video to this one you look so much happier, you have a real excitement in your voice now, well done you. 🤩
What a great job you are doing Sherry - excellent task getting the guttering up to capture the rain. It would be a good idea to cover the IBC opening with some very fine mesh ie. tights to capture debris and stop it polluting the water in the tank - netting the brassica is essential to stop birds from pecking at the plants but the pea and bean netting isn't suitable for this purpose plus it is too low. More and taller canes are needed not only around the bed but some with in and topped with eg yoghurt pots to stop the canes coming through the netting. it needs to be taught so birds and animals don't get entwined in it. Pidgeon's will sit on netting weighting it down so they can get to the crops so a good height is essential to stop the blighters. Another method to support netting that is often used on allotments is the blue water pipes arched across the beds with scaffold netting as the cover usually held down securely with bricks. - netting is not going to stop slugs - Gosh your site is very windy I would makes plans now to anchor the grow house down before the autumn/winter winds set in these type of growing structures are not known as 'Blow away tunnels' for nothing. A couple of methods I've seen used to secure them are 1. hammer in by about 18 inches stakes inside the tunnel in each corner and attach the metal frame to them 2. Two or three wide webbing straps thrown over the outside and securely anchored in the ground with very long tent pegs. Combining both of these methods will give a chance of it not blowing away You are making such good progress 👍👍
For a new allotment site it’s very tidy 👍👍. Great magic for the win even if it’s not cabbage 😂. Those trays always remind me of old ice cube trays. Yeahhhh 🎉 seedling action it is such a thrilling feeling isn’t it to see your first babies come up. Keep up the awesome work Rome wasn’t built in a day either. Happy gardenin, Ali 🌞🥵35c🇨🇦
Love the jerry-rigged guttering!! Hope it worked great. The plot is coming along nicely, just remind yourself how much further ahead you be next year! Just keep plugging away!!!
It harvested 100L so far, Whoop Whoop 🙌🏻 😂
@@SherrysAllotment You go girl!!!wish we got some rain in summer in California I am watering my arse off everyday.... Lol!!!
Oh my Gawd one hour after I made this comment it started raining! No watering for me today!!!
Yeah first I. The comment section, you know I love that!!!
I appreciate you 🫶🏻☺️ xx
For next year, you can plant your tomatoes way deeper. The hairs on the stem will become roots and so your plant wil take up more nutriants and water.
I did not know this, Thank you! ☺️
I love your personality on the plot.
Ahh thank you ☺️ I really enjoy it there.
Since yesterday i've been watching all your vlogs and i love the progress. Wow. Thumbs up!! Greeting from the netherlands
The Netherlands! Wow! Hello and welcome ☺️ thank you so much for watching xx
Ha ha old treasures 😂 I took on a neglected allotment in May and I am still digging up bricks, so much so I’ve built a small wall 😊
It amazes me what some people find on the plots they've taken over.
Oh I pinched my hand with my clippers 🤕 no fun. Arches will be fantastic addition as will the scarecrow 👍👍. Are you the only one at the site or do others just not show up much. What would we do without cable ties 😂. Windy but all in all a lovely day but the looks of it. We have the hopefully tail end of a heatwave here so I’m not getting as much done as I would like. All doing well Sherry have a great week, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦
Toilet paper and packing tape off a cardboard box to fix me up, I really need a first aid kit down there 😅 There's about 10 plots on the site now I think, I should do a little walk round to show you. I see one or two down there more frequently than some of the others. Hope you get some cooler weather soon Ali. Ours is on the change again! Should be warmer for the weekend 🤞🏻 xx
@@SherrysAllotment that would be great 👍
Hi 🖐🖐 the archway is going to look fabulous - the pea and bean netting you have used might not be strong enough for heavier crops such as pumpkins - as you are on a very windy site the archway might need reinforcing. I would get some tree stakes and, drive them in by about 18 inches at the point you have cable tied them together and then wire them all together for added strength. when the archways are covered in any crop it will act as a sail so need to be very robust - generally speaking things going into the ground need to be driven in much deeper than you are doing at the moment to avoid things collapsing - PLEASE it is wise to get a first aid box to put in the summerhouse as accidents do happen a lot on allotment plots. Been there done that got the cuts to prove it and check if your tetanus vaccination is up to date I love the scarecrow and offer Matilda as a name for her 😊😊
Love the arch and the garden witch!! She needs a name! I have found that putting netting in the arches is easier if they are laying down, maybe try that if you decide to replace it! Another great video! Thanks for posting it!!!
Laying them down would have made it so much easier 😅 definitely doing that when it comes to recovering them 😂
Looking forward to seeing how things progress on your plot. You are a natural at this❤
Thank you so much! ☺️
I love the zones idea. I can't wait to see what you end up deciding ❤
Yes! You can grow the patio fruit trees in containers. They are dwarf varieties that work well for that. Google container gardening with fruit trees. You really want to stick to dwarfvarieties otherwise you wont be able to reach the fruit in the top of the full size varieties. Be sure to read the tag taking note of the mature height and width before buying a plant. The unpicked fruit from a tree that's too tall will drop from the tree littering your site with rotting fruit which attract rodents. You'll don't want to spend the entire season cleaning up rotten fruit. I came across a video by a gardener whose name I've forgotten who planted an mini orchard in his backyard using only dwarf fruit trees. He kept them pruned to just under 7 feet tall. He didn't even need a ladder to harvest the fruit. Hope this helps.
Great work today🎉 You may want to consider bringing a folding chair, wide brimmed straw hat and a water bottle with you to the allotment until you get settled in. That way you'll have a spot ti sit and take a break to rehydrate during these hot summer days. Also, just a suggestion for you. Remove the grass past the edges of the polytunnel and cover that area with a weed barrier. Otherwise the grass will regrow all along the inside edge of the poly tunnel.
Sherry, the pallet collars are a great find! I hope you are able to get more. They are so easy to use and create such a neat look for free❤
I really like the pallet collars, hopefully I’ll come across some more. The decking boards also make tidy looking beds and a good size too ☺️
Oh my lord slugs have just been insane this year 😮. A couple of months of progress and you’ve done an awesome job. Funny enough we would love a bit of rain it’s been so hot and this weekend could reach mid to high 30’s. Hope it warms up for you soon Sherry, Ali 🌞🥵🫠🇨🇦
It’s a slow progress but it’s definitely getting somewhere 😅 I have zero clue what is going on with this weather, we have rain again today 😂 x
Hi 👍 To the progress you are making on your new plot - great to see you labelling the seeds you are sowing - good idea to net the beds once seeds are sown or things planted out - radicchio is a type of chicory - salad leaves and radish are both quick growing so in the other half of the bed these are the crops to plan and are both good for succession planting. Sow a couple of rows then two or three weeks later grow some more - on your brassica bed you could also sow quick maturing salads, as these will be ready to pick before the brassicas have grown big and shaded them out - get that guttering up ASAP while we are having rain because if we do get any dry weather you will very quickly run out of water and you won't be able to bring enough down and you won't want the stress - do a reconnoitre over to the water bowser the landlord has put in. and fill your water bottles up there - use your car more for transporting things from the front of the site to your plot. Drive on fill your bags/bottles then drive to your plot - great use of those bags for life to fill and carry stuff - keep hold of those empty compost bags there are a multitude of uses on the plot - I would be tempted to dig your pond a little deeper as it is very shallow and very open to the elements so will dry up very quickly. Just think how quickly a big puddle dries up in the heat - as the ground is sooooo hard get yourself a mallet and metal bar so you can drive canes etc into a decent depth without breaking them - have a tray bag for your tools so you know where they are when you want them - BE NICE TO YOURSELF........... TREAT YOURSELF TO A NICE SEAT FOR THE SUMMERHOUSE. Somewhere to rest and to enjoy a nice cuppa while you either plan or look back on your days toil These comments are NOT criticism in any way but ment as hints and tips. Please feel free to ignore. All's looking good 👍😁👍
Ive managed to crastily put the guttering up, I’ve found that I need some other bits for it to fix it up properly, but for now 🤞🏼 it’ll hopefully do the job to collect some water. Filling barrels and bottles up constantly was starting to wear thin for sure 😅😂. I think you’re right about the pond, I think it needs to be deeper so it’s definitely another job being added to the list of things to do. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and tips, I’ll definitely be taking them on board ☺️🫶🏼
Plot looks great 🌿 let's hope all the plants thrive and survive 🌶️🫛 love the pond 🌼
Thank you! 🤞🏼fingers are crossed for producing something edible 🙌🏼 x
Looking great! I'm sure you've seen this before from other allotment channels but collecting water from your shed roof by connecting a gutter and pipe to your IBC would really maximize your IBC water storage. Danny @grownup has a video on this. Keep up the good work.❤ Also, add sticks to raise the middle of the net over your brassicas so the net is not touching any plants to keep the slugs and snails from reaching the plants by crawling on the net until you can make some hoops to hold the net up.
I’ve got some guttering ready to be put up, I think I still need the down pipe connection bit to direct it to the tank. I think the netting definitely needs raising up, my Brussels look like they’re heading for a crook neck 😅😂 xx
tip for the future..... after digging up turf you should stack grass side down to stop it re growing it will then break down into a good crumbly texture. Alternately use a thin base in the bottom of the raised beds 👍👍
Thank you for the tip! I kind of just chucked it in the compost corner where it now just exists, I’m not sure what/if anything I need to do with it 😅 x
Congratulations on reaching your first 100 subs keep up the excellent content, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦
Thank you so much! ☺️ xx
Really looking good Sherry! Well done. You'll be surprised how resilient tomatoes can be. Just one thing, the canes in the poly tunnel, put something over the top (little bottles) coz over time the sheeting will keep hitting them in the wind and breakthrough the plastic, just from experience that's all. But keep up the good work x
Thanks for the tip, I’d not considered them damaging the polytunnel so I’ll definitely get them covered 👍🏼☺️ xx
Yeah first one here can't wait to watch!!
You’re a superstar! Hope you enjoyed it 🫶🏼 xx
I have loads of rhubarb down on my allotment and really look forward to crumbles and pies. Its the leaves that are poisonous but I just put these on the compost heap. I'm 74 and so far haven't been poisoned! Having moved to a new home 5 years ago with only a tiny garden I got an allotment with my daughter and we are really enjoying it. You have hit a really difficult year to start as everyone is saying how difficult it is to get things going but you are doing great. Love your pond; sadly we are not allowed them on our site.
Is there a rule of thumb as to where you cut the leaves off, such as so many cm’s below? I LOVE rhubarb crumble 😍 It’s so lovely that you’re sharing a plot with your daughter 🥰 x
@@SherrysAllotment no I just twist the leaves off probably about an inch below where they leave the stem and then peel the outer layer off. Its best not to let it get too big or the stems get a bit stringy. I'm sure if you search for how to pick and prepare rhubarb there will be some videos if your not sure
Thumb's up to Lincolnshire,I live there fabulous place.😊
It’s so lovely, we moved here 11 years ago from Leicester. ☺️ xx
Definitely the right move in repositioning the entrance for access to the car 👍
It was a good job I decided to move it. I thought the area between my plot and my neighbours was a walk through but somebody has started to mow it these last few days, turns out it was actually an empty plot 😅😂 x
Great odea to put the wildlife area in the damp weedy area leave some nettles for the butterflies 🦋😊
Thank you ☺️ xx
Im affraid the posts are not substantial enough nor in deep enough and the weed fabric will be like a sail, chicken wire or svaffold netting would be a better option. Good luck in your ventures 🤞😁
I ended up switching it out for scaffold netting. The weed membrane was like a wind breaker 😅😂
You could try and put Vaseline over your arms before starting to work on the plot. It might help x
Thank you, I might give that a try x
We really just need a balance of rain and sun but sadly it seems to be one or the other in extremes. Try burying the pumpkin stem as they sometime send out more roots. But all in all the allotment isn’t doing bad sherry so keep at it, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
The weather is definitely having a wobbly moment, we’ve just had 2 days of rain and then today was blustery and ended with beaming sunshine ☀️
@@SherrysAllotment we had cold rain last week and this week I’m melting 🫠 I can only,y garden really early or after dinner time 🥵🥵
The heat definitely takes gardening to a whole new level 🥵🥵😅😂
Usually, but not always brown leaves mean lack of water, yellow means over watered. Probably does need feeding too though. Trays for plants pots with water in them will really help in the poly tunnel, so great thinking. Water is a tricky thing especially in warm climates or weather. Its a learning curve, and I am struggling to get it right too her in Southern California. Hang in there!!! Could the rash be an allergy of some kind? Maybe try Benadry or Claritin or something similar before you go to the plot?
I’ve used some small containers that mushrooms come in, they’re definitely helping with the watering 👍🏼 I’m not sure the rash/blisters are allergy related, I take 2 allergy tablets everyday for hay fever, though it begs the question, if they are allergy related how bad they’d be if I didn’t take antihistamines 😅.
@@SherrysAllotment look up phytophotodermatitis if you haven't already. I spelled it incorrectly I think but that should get you close
Omg! That fits with what I’m experiencing. I wonder if it’s just certain things on the plot that triggers it for me, I’ll have to try and keep an eye on when it happens and what I was doing at the time. I’ve always suffered with severe hay fever but never experienced the blistering until having the plot.
@@SherrysAllotment it sounded right to me too when I looked the symptoms up.
@@SherrysAllotment sounded right to me too when I looked up the symptoms, but please consult a Dr
Pond looks great, the plot coming along nicely too x
Thank you so much, it’s getting there 😊 x
Things are growing, and you are glowing! Way to go my friend. Be well!
Thank you so much! You too! ☺️ x
I love your excitement for the veg growing 💥
It’s surprised me by how exciting growing your own actually is 😂 x
🎉🎉 strawberries 🍓 are the best picked off a vine. Hope the pond works out and it will make a fab addition to the allotment. Happy gardening Sherry, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦,
Fingers crossed for the pond 🤞🏼I’m not sure at the minute if it’s having slight evaporation from the weather or if it has a small leak 😅 x
