The Marble Bathroom pt 2 of 4
After another visit to the bricolage, we start installing the stud work walls for the new bathrooms we are making. It's amazing how quickly you can put stud walls up but filling all of the holes and corners with plaster and sanding them down is often the most time consuming bit.

The Marble Bathroom pt 1 (of 4)
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.21 день назад
This is the first in a series of vlogs we'll be doing where we cover the renovation of our a huge shower room into not one but two bathrooms using our new stud work plaster boarding skills and a lot of hard work. First though, we had to make a new door into the bathroom to ensure which was to prove quite challenging. If you enjoyed the video please give it a like, it really helps ☺️ You can als...
The Great natural pool adventure continues! Building our own natural pool
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.Месяц назад
Finally we get the walls of the swimming level up. After the grim realisation that we needed to double the thickness of the walls it has been a long slog building these all the way round. It isn't the brick laying that takes time but mixing and pouring the concrete which we've been doing by hand all 52 tons so far (If Jolyon's crude maths is correct). We've not quite finished yet but this still...
We finally REVEAL the Decadent Château Trois Cloches Salon! With piano and chandelier restoration.🏰
Просмотров 25 тыс.2 месяца назад
Finally, we reveal the Salon in all it's glory. We cover a lot in this video so you're in for a right treat so grab a cup of tea/coffee or glass of wine and enjoy the journey with us: - Jolyon restores and installs a french Empire style Ballon chandelier found in Yorkshire of all places! - We try our hands at a bit of gold leafing on the ceiling. - We choose a curtain fabric, and then hang the ...
Dramatic change to the Salon at Château Trois Cloches
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.2 месяца назад
It's so EXCITING to finally see a dramatic change when we spray paint the Salon with Mylands stunning Bond Street paint. It was a risk going this dark in the room, but it's a big space and we were sure it could take it! The room was missing something, and we felt it needed a bit more architectural interest given its size so we installed some new wall panelling, and the room began to transform a...
How to conceal a TV, AND the final fix of the stunning Salon Parquet Floor.
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.2 месяца назад
In this video Jolyon finally gets round to finishing the parquet floor in the Salon which was a first for him, but some great lessons were learned along the way. And he comes up with an ingenious way to make our TV vanish when not in use. We wanted to be able to have a formal looking Salon but also wanted the option of having a TV. So we opted for a special TV called 'Samsung The Frame' and ins...
Making small steps forward with the Natural Pool at the Château
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
After deciding to dig down again so we could make thicker foundations and double the thickness of the wall we finally start to make progress. It feels frustrating as we have a lot of work to do to get to the height of the wall as it is, but it'll be worth it to make sure the pool doesn't collapse one day. This is one of a series of videos in our Natural Pool series. To check out the others, go ...
SAVING THE SALON PARQUET FLOOR. Massive wood beetle infestation pt1
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.3 месяца назад
In this series of videos, we will cover the renovation of the Salon, from our first weeks in Château Trois Cloches when we realised that the parquet floor in the lounge was literally been eaten away by wood beetles or Vrillettes du bois. We acted quickly and stripped the varnish off the floor in a painful job that took several days. We then treated the wood with Xylophene but then left the floo...
How build a natural pool? We start digging down AGAIN!
Просмотров 3 тыс.3 месяца назад
After a few months since Jolyon broke his wrist, we finally decided to venture down to the Natural pool again to get this project moving again. Chris had to do the heavy lifting as Jolyon still isn't 100% and after a few months of reflection, we also decided we had to stop building up the walls and instead dig down again to make the foundations wider and build a second layer to the wall to ensu...

We LOVE a bit of technology that makes life easier, and the smart irrigation system we installed at Château Trois Cloches from Gardena (@GardenaUK) is just incredible!! In this video we finally tackle the baron wasteland that is our garden! After nearly a year of it being trashed by other projects, creating a new filtration bed and due to the need to move literally tonnes of soil for the natural pool, we are finally ready to attempt to level it, and sow some grass seed! But, as with all Château jobs, it is never simple, especially when the sit-on low mower isn...
Disaster strikes at the Natural Pool

We initially naively thought we could finish the natural pool in just a couple of months, but when Autumn came, we had to pivot to re-roofing the stables before the wet winter weather caused irreparable damage to the roof structure. In the new year, we eventually had some better weather which meant we could pick the project up again and make more progress. With the help of Chris's Uncle John, t...

    We have a very small bathroom also. To make it seem bigger we used glass surround in the shower. On the areas where we had to tile we used white subway tiles with an accent of a 'frame' made of speciality tiles in the middle of the wall. The toilet is a streamlined on that doesn't feel small but looks less intrusive. The vanity does not go to the floor so it gives an illusion of greater space as your eye is carried further. And a really interesting mirror that has lights and bling around it.

    Question: i am sure that you did the research already and I am meerly sitting on the couch drinking coffee but watching. What is the wall paper made of and does it let the wall breath, or maybe your high (as in second floor) and raising moisture is less of a problem. Curious N

    • @NM-or4zg
      @NM-or4zg 10 дней назад

      Opps, there is a void behind the dry wall. Question nearly, nearly answered -- still curious if the paper can breath -- more academic 😊

    • @chateautroiscloches
      @chateautroiscloches 6 дней назад

      It’s on the first floor so it’d be very worrying if we had rising damp up there

    • @NM-or4zg
      @NM-or4zg 3 дня назад

      Certain dry wall/plaster boards will allow the old wall to breath as moisture will gather behind on the old walls due to the temperature differential between the outside and inside of the property. The wall coverings paint etc will still need to be considered to allow the flow of air and moisture. I think the room does look fantastic and all viewers are amazed at the professional finish, aligning such a fab paper design. Not to be a dampner just Something to consider as you continue with the master bath. If you watch chateau de la lacelle a lot of the wall work and insulation is in opposition to current understanding and will effectively kill the building, not to mention the sellers guarantee. N

I’m better on the practical side & find the artistic side more difficult. Is the new sink going to be right beside the door?? A decent size shower is more used in 2024. Place templates around the room to see how everything would work, Use those sinks some where else. The sinks look fine but perhaps the surround could be changed. This is the new age now where people try and come up with clever ideas to keep and use. Have a good think and play around with templates before you jack hammer into sinks etc. Cheers you two remember slow and steady no regrets. Watching from Australia.

    I cannot believe how you are going about ‘designing’ this room. Why on earth would you demolish things BEFORE you investigate? Are you going to insulate the walls between the two rooms? For sound at least?? Good luck. Look forward to seeing it finished..😊 I don’t think the window between is a good idea - when one bathroom’s light is turned on?!?!? Just put a sensor light in the other ensuite that comes on with movement!?

    There are free bath layout templates available to help with designing a bathroom, with standard recommended spacing, to prevent regrettable choices. Might be worth checking them out. It must be so discouraging to damage a lovely bathroom wall when other parts of your chateau still need work. But as you said, an ensuite bath makes the pink room far more inviting than a shared bath, so needs must. Crack on!
