Making sure your sampels are clean and start at the right point is essential, if they're not when triggering you can mistake the start point for latency issues and spend un-neccassary time trying to figure out what's happening. Here I show you how.
How to use EQ on your eDrums

Being able to change the frequencies of the sounds you use on your eDrums allows you to shape them in to original noises. EQ is a great starting tool to do this and every drum module has a function to do this to some degree. Here I explain and demonstrate what they are and how they effect the sound.

Grime is a genre of electronic dance music emerging from London at the turn of the century. It draws its infulences from other electronic styles including Garage, 2 step and Jungle as well as dancehall, hip hop and ragga. Its syncopated rythmns and tight, ounchy sounds make it great for eDrummers to play and here I show you my approach to playing it.

Playing along to loops and breaks is possibly one of the most frequent ways we use electronics, whether playing acoustics or electronics. However, with eDrums you're able to play the loops or breaks, literally. Here I show you how I like to use my eDrums to do just that allowing for a more organic approach.

I’m running my drum kit through a passive speaker. How can I get Highs? Right now everything sounds muddy. No treble! Would I need to ad an Eq to my kit. I have an Alesis Dm8 pro.
Brilliant, solved all my edrum problems. Thank you

That shit with the delay pedal is actually incredible! Also the distortion+compression goes insane too🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I just got a td30 and I'm finding that it's hard to set sensitivity properly because it will fire randomly loud notes that I hit with the same force...any ideas to fix that?😅 I'm aware that hitting centre could cause louder hits, but I'm not sure it's purely that... It's annoying... I'll try to play to songs but I don't hear my snare cutting through as i'd expect , and those u do hear are the weird maxed out hits...
Hi Heather, thanks for checking the video out. Without playing the drum myself and viewing the modules settings it's quite difficult to know what to suggest to help you, but I'll have ago! Try turning your sensitivity up fully first of all and play, see if you're getting a consistent volume that way, whether playing soft or hard. There should be no quieter or louder hits. If that's the case then slowly begin to bring the sensitivity down and see if you notice when you play softer the sound is quieter and when harder, the sound is louder. If you play harder and the sound is quieter then you may need to look at the set up of the pads zones. I don't use Roland so I'm not familiar with how their modules deal with this but I would hope the manual would shed some light on the matter, if indeed that's what's needed. Like I say without trying it myself I'm not sure but this is where I'd start. Good luck and let me know how you get on. Best, Bid.
TD-17KVX here. Sensitivity and threshold brought my cymbals to life!
What are your parameters? Threshold and sensitivity and do you use retrig cancel ? I can't figure mine out
Hello. I got the DTX900 recently. I updated to the latest firmware. My issue is that when i am using input 13,14, and 15 the pads are too quiet. Do you had any similar issues?
Hi there, congratulations on getting the DTX900. It's a great kit! As for the pads being quiet I haven't come across this issue myself. I would suggest checking the set up of those pads against the set up of the pads whose volume you're happy with. And when I say check them I mean check everything. There will be something different between them abd you'll have to find out what. It's a pain in the ass to do it but it will also get you to explore the module and you'll learn soooo much. Sorry I can't be of any more assistance in this but I hope what I've suggested makes sense and helps you. If I do come across anything that I think maybe the cause I'll let you know. All the best for now.
@bid111 No worries. It's a lot to learn on that module. I am gonna figure it out, thanks

Bloddy well man ❤! Thanks for this 😅😅. Love from Mumbai.
buenas tardes desde medellin colombia. amigo una pregunta, como configuro la sensibilidad del snare desde addictive drums2 ? gracias
Thank you for this video! I have been playing a Roland TD10 kit for over 20 years. It was the floor model at Guitar Center, so all the sounds and kits had been modified before I bought it. There were 3 or 4 kits that I really liked just as they were, so I never bothered to learn much about how to made adjustments. Then the battery died and the module went back to the factory settings. I lost all those cool kits. I've been fumbling around to try to create a kit or two that I like. This video was incredibly helpful!
Glad it's helped you out!
Wow! This brings my edrumming to the next level. Thanks for sharing!
it helped a lot! Thank you so much.

Wow....just bought a PYLE PTED 06 desktop drum kit, and I've watched about 5 different automation vid's for Ableton and buddy, you've explained it the best!!!! Thank you so much. Chris MacKinnon Montreal, Canada!

Im hearing i can turn my ambience off to get rid of the boxy sound through my monitors? I have aTD27, is it true and how can i turn it off?
Hi Pedro, I'm not really that knowledgable with Roland kits however, I've just googled your problem and found this answer. "You can turn the ambience off by pressing [Kit], pressing [F3 (FX SW)] and then pushing the button under “Ambience”. You can also turn the compressor, EQ, and effects on or off in this same manner." I hope this helps! : )
Just tried turning off my absence but did change the sound. That said i ordered new TS cables, that should do the trick then i can turn ambience on and off, TBD. Thx
Nice
Anyone coming here to get some useful tips, you don't need to drop a device (in this case, a Sampler) on a pad in order to rename it. The reason you can't initially rename a pad in an empty Drum Rack is because there's no device chain associated with it yet. You first need to open the Chain List by clicking on the 'show/hide Chain List' button (below the Drum Rack's on/off button). The Chain List will become visible, right-click in it and select 'create new chain'. Now you can right-click on either the chain or the pad and choose to rename it (with the pad/chain selected, CTRL+R/CMD+R to rename). Now click the 'I/O' button on the Drum Rack... in the Chain List window, you'll now also see the 'Receive/Play/Choke/Audio to' columns. If you duplicate the chain you previously created or create a new chain, note that the default 'Receive/Play' options show up as 'C1/C3'. Change those to C#1/C#3 and incrementally increase any further new chains that you create, otherwise any pad you trigger will trigger all the others. If you do this say, 16 times, then you'll have a full grid set up. Right-click on the title bar of the Drum Rack and select 'Save as default'. Now, every time you drag n drop a new Drum Rack in Ableton, it'll already have a full grid of pads set up that you can simply rename. Incidentally, if you hadn't just realised, you can right-click on the title bar of any of Live's devices and choose to save its current state as the default :)
Great video. This is a huge help. Hope you keep posting content.
Thanks man! And for the words of encouragement... it's appreciated.
very good explanation, thanks :-)
You're welcome! : )
excellent vibes over this track!
It would be nice to have a way to control the release of the sections so they don’t die off so fast when you change scenes. Is that possible ?
You could put the next section on a different channel or channels then remove the play button from the scene (or scenes) below the one you'd like to allow the release to continue. Would this solve the issue?
Why is youtube thumbnails full of 😲
thank you so much! I just got my 1st kit and been trying to mess with the module for tuning. Thanks!
Good luck with it all! Take your time and most of all...have fun!

Very good information my friend. Cheers from Canada
Yo this is fire bro thanks so much! Now I just need to figure out how to get my drum module / triggers to ableton without having to UNPLUG my keyboard :/ MIDI through on the keyboard isn’t working. So when I want to do drum tracks I unplug the keyboard controller and plug in the midi cable from the drum machine where my triggers are all going in. Any ideas? Is there a way to combine multiple midi sources like that? Thanks
Hey, cheers for the message. I’m afraid, if your through input isn’t working on the keyboard I don’t know any other way of connecting your drum module other than what you’re doing unless you purchase a midi interface that gives you multiple inputs. There are plenty on the market. 👍🏻
I have a Yamaha DTX Multi 12. It doesn't trigger the softest notes but the Velocity Limit is set to 0-127. Is this just how this pad is? When I play soft eight notes on the ride, every few notes played one sound is skipped...
Hi, make sure your sensitivity and threshold parameters are adjusted as well as the velocity limiter. The pad should respond to the soft notes better.
Excellent tutorial. Are you saying that these parameters have to be customized on the module no matter that a vst drums have a preset for that drum ?
Hi Hansel, the way you play is unique to you. Your touch, your feel. It may be similar to a preset and so that prest may work well for you but it's not set up specifically for you. If the set up is comforatble then great, no need for any adjustments but if it's not then yes, you should dive in and make some changes.
Well I did all those things in a new empty project in reaper but as soon as I tried to record drums to a song I'm working on there was too much latency to play. I just bought an alesis nitro mesh kit to trigger slate drums plugin but I didn't know I was gonna run into such an issue here. Any suggestions?
maybe you have many vst in your song causing latency, try to render the song, open a new project with this song and add a track with your e-drum, record the drums, if you still need to edit the song, paste the e-drum track to the original project, this doesn't fix the latency problem but it does achieve the goal.😎
Hi Jason, I'm not familiar with Reaper but I do know in some DAW's such as Ableton latency is heard depending on your choice of monitoring. Therefore I'd suggest you try monitoring direct. This would mean your recordings would still need to be moved once you're ready to listen back but if you're working to a click you'd be able to see what the latency discrepancy is.
@@bid111 thanks for the help. I just used an audio jack splitter to hear audio from the module while the track is muted when recording. Works like a charm

Thank you! Just what I was looking for, but I have a question. Why when the toms threshold are on just 2, can I hear any level hit, but with the snare set on 0, although it's much better than it was, I can still hit the drum without producing a sound? Why is that?
Hi Rob, I'm not quite sure of your explanation. What drum are you hitting? The snare or the tom? Also what are your sensitivity settings?
@@bid111 Thanks for the reply. The snare setting is sensitivity 5, threshold 0, & curve linear. The tom is sensitivity 5, threshold 2, & curve linear. I don't know what the threshold was set to, before re-adjusting it on the snare, but it was a great improvement going down to 0. At the same time though, I don't know why no matter how light I hit the tom, I get sound in the center or sides of the head, while if I hit the snare light enough I can get it where there's no sound, especially at the sides. Like I can do a soft roll at the sides of the pad & just hear the tennis racket sound, not triggering the brain etc. I'm hoping & looking for the tom response on the snare. The tom is like a real drum, where as no matter how soft I hit it, it produces a sound. Thanks much!!
@@robd2650 Hello again Rob and thanks for clarifying your situation, unfortunately though I don't have an answer as it should be the other way round. Are you sure the cables are in the correct trigger outputs and you're adjusting the right parameters for that pad? It's a very obvious question but I've been caught out myself thinking I'm adjusting a pads parameters only to later find out I wasn't changing the right pad.
@@bid111 No, they're the right pads. It seems as though my snare which is the larger pad from the TD12 line, doesn't respond as well as the smaller tom pads. Like I mentioned there was great improvement by lowering the threshold, but it's not perfect. I should mention that I did switch the input chords so that I was playing the snare sound through the tom for a bit, & the tom pad did allow for a more sensitive roll etc. Again thanks much as I probably had the threshold set to around 8 or 10 on the snare pad, ( I didn't jot it down), & it was quite bad at that setting. There's great improvement pulling it all the way down to zero.
Hi there. Awesome vid. Helps a lot. I have an issue. My drummer plays Roland TM6 and uses side stick and rim shot. He never uses centre for snare. The problem is that when he hits rim shot all I get is side stick. How can I resolve this problem. Otherwise it means that I can’t use the snare trigger. Thanks for your help.
Hi Calvin, sorry for the delay in the response. Well the obvious answer for this is for your drummer to change his technique for the electronic kit and play the centre snare rather than the rim. And it's easy for him to see why if you and everyone else are not hearing what you should be right?
@@bid111 Thanks a mill. I thought I was going mad! Will speak to the drummer. Most appreciated
Great explanation!
Sir, thank you so, so very much! I’m an older drummer .. 61 and have played acoustic drums all of my life. I’ve been fumbling around (very excited about) learning electronic drums. I purchased a Roland TD25KV kit in 2015 .. maybe a little late because there have been so many improvements since then with newer modules .. but your explanation here has opened my eyes to so many possibilities to make my kit feel the way I want it to. I haven’t dug in yet but am going to. Thank you again so very much for your knowledge and expertise. Kind Regards, Tom Pollock - on RUclips as “World’s Okayest Drum Covers” … thanks again my friend.
fuck yeah rock on buds, happy exploring. its never too late to expand any knowledge or playing!
That´s a really amazing drumkit!
I've gotta Roland TD8 module with my Millenium MPS 400 mesh head (modded) kit. I'm luving it! However, what can I do to stop a tom pad (left side triggering) when hitting other pads (even the cymbals, hi hat, ride an crash. Tried changing sensitivity, threshold, an cross talk settings, but it didn't solve it. Anyone?
Amazing video - just what a I needed. You deserve more subs!

Fantastic!!!!! Thank you 🙏 for this demo/explanation. I recently got dtx pro module as upgrade to my DTX560. I really need to EQ the cymbal samples, I love drum sounds, however I like my td-17 cymbal sounds more. I suspect EQ will help me shape the sounds to my liking
