GGBO22- Updates, Eye Candy and Preview
i really need a tutorial video for this kind of guitar...
I love how you're so brutally honest about your mistakes. :)
lol, there's alot of them, so I better be used to it!
I really like that body shape, those cutaways look like they provide awesome upper fret access, especially with that heel carve.
Thanks! It's my favorite design. I'm working on refining it further. I have alot of ideas for it
Limba and wedge would be a great combo - the idea of a Wenge neck is awesome
Thanks.. if that goes the way I envision it, it's going to be really awesome
for fire - yellow guitar with a red fretboard is really unusual and will have a real impact - not that the other option is bad
I'm really torn on that one. I can see both in my head. I think it's just a matter of which I do for this series.. they'll both be made..eventually
Yellow and red sounds wonderful. Don't hesitate jump for it. Limba is a real Kool wood and looks beautiful let the four winds blow. Mysterious is very sexy.
Definitely spalted maple on the 1st one. I like the yellow and red too. Black Limba is definitely a good choice too. The Padouk looks good. And the Wenge. I have a feeling these gitars are gonna look badass. I've never seen a giutar with an oak neck. You're right it'll probably be heavy, but I bet it'll be quite stout. Here in Appalachia I'm constantly always having to tweak my maple & mahogany necks after winter. There's 51% humidity now but that's about to change here real soon. It will fall into the teens and even with my humidifier I can't even put a dent in it. Tweaking truss rods & filing fret ends are one thing, but once I had to pull all the frets on a guitar and replane the fretboard! Anyway, I see some WEN cases back there. I've got some WEN tools here. Not for building guitars, I'm not good with wood lol. I just do minor stuff. Guys like you who build guitars from scratch, I call you guys "wood wizards" lol. I'd love to learn but I live in a 1 bedroom duplex so I don't really have the room. Okay, I'm rambling, yes this is gonna be interesting. I can't wait!
Rambling? Everything you said was interesting. Yeah, I'm up north and we're about to hit "the change". I love the seasons but it does mess with your guitars. I had an old acoustic split the top because I waited too long to check in on it. But I have a theory that eventually those humidity changes eventually condition the wood. I notice some guitars move less and less over the years of seasonal changes. And thank you, but I bet you can build a mean guitar if you had the space. The reason I bought a house was to be able to get back to building guitars. I'm going to do my best on these. The ideas are good, let's hope I can execute to the level I want. There are still some surprises in store that I need to fully develope. Thanks for the awesome comment
I also like the Limba
It's gorgeous, right? If you look up my Soma build, I used a brother piece of limba there. Such a beautiful wood
@@randmockguitars4079 Dark blue goes great with gold
Just chiming in for the air guitar. My thought on it would be to just use mainly light colors with some nice grains and then possibly add maybe some grayish shades across to simulate clouds. Like if one was looking at the sky. Someone earlier mentioned epoxy usage so you can mix some different grey tones to simulate haze and possibly a little light blue to have sky peaking through. Hope this sparks something. I’m sure it will look amazing.
I like it. I agree that light minimalistic colors.. muted almost would be really nice. I wish I had some experience with resin, but I have zero with it. It really is a cool idea though. Maybe the next one I'll try it.
Dude. Yellow? Idk. I like red and blondie. But there is a very clear choice for the baritone. Go with your instinct there 1000%. Make it a baseball bat Warwick wenge neck. I think the neck on my thumb -5 bass has a lot to do with the “growl” Warwick sound. It doesn’t have to be quite as enormous, but not a thin fast neck. Beefy slow neck. But that long scale neck in all wenge will look really fucking cool against the blue. Like a pirate ship against the Caribbean waters. Carry on
You underestimate me, young grasshopper.. I think I can rock the hell out of that yellow with red trim. But Red is more fitting tbh, so I get you. lol, Someone mentioned a wenge stripe and fretboard with flame maple sides which I got to say does sound awesome. But I'm still leaning towards all wenge. I'll just include a strap for the weight of that beast
so many choices! love them all.
Thanks Elvis
Damn. This video made me realize I need to step up my wood game. This is good shit right here tho. So jealous of your work now. 🤘🏼🔥
lol, I'm just raiding my stash at this point. Thanks!
a lot of nice woods!! my choice would be: For Earth: definetely spalted maple, for Fire: I would like red guitar with the blond fretboard and for water: If you don't mind to share my experience: test the blue dye upfront, I once made an oak body for a guitar and I stained it blue, the final colour turned out to be black with some small streaks of grey....so I would suggest to start with a light blue on the black limba.....looking so much forward to the builds...all the best to you!!
I'm leaning the same for Earth and Fire, but people really do seem to like the yellow. I'm definitely taking the advice to heart. Theres going to alot of experimenting on these finishes. It's why I think the ash would be easier to make work, but that Limba is soo.... amazing lol Thanks for the heads up!
i‘m just wondering why you would invest many hundreds of dollars and countless hours of work in guitars only to give them away to basically random people on the internet? i don’t criticize, i really want to know why you’re doing this? you got some nice pieces of wood there ❤
It's alot of things I can't really get into in a comment section. But I hope people have fun with it. It means alot to me
analysis paralysis. no wrong choices there really, i like the idea of the yellow fire guitar with the paduk neck. and obviously you have to use that spalted maple.
lol the spalted is hard to refuse isn't it? I am intrigued about the yellow fire guitar. Soon as I thought of it an image popped into my head. Thanks brother!
Thank you - I really enjoyed this - I use recycled wood where I can, so often struggle to get good matches that work. I like wenge, so pleased to see that. For me, a full wenge neck is quite a strong look. Are laminated neck off the agenda? I would cut a wenge fretboard and a wenge central spine for the neck blank and use the roasted maple for the sides - so a three piece neck blank. Looking forward to the next one Cheers
Mmmmm.. Thats a great idea. Hadn't occurred to me, but that does sound hot. I do love the idea of a really dark and mysterious look, but that would be a sexy neck. Thanks for that idea! It's really good
Cheers - I also build for charities. I don't do RUclips, but post on the Guitar Builders Collective and my web site - a search on my name will find it if anyone is interested. Your guitars will be amazing.
When people play "air guitar" it's an invisible kinda thing, so very apropos 🫥😂 Would some clear acrylic pieces be possible to work into the air guitar? I know nada about guitar building but clear acrylic is so interesting in any form. Seriously, the yellow guitar would be "fire" as my teenager would say. All of them are gonna be amazing! Fantastic creativity. **Looked it up, I guess the proper term for acrylic is epoxy resin, mixed with wood. Lol... like I said, I know nothing about the subject, but they look amazing.
You are always two steps ahead... the resin idea really is apropos . You know, the yellow Fire is definitely growing on me. You may not build guitars to know about the woods.. but you have great ideas
For earth, I would go with the ash and ebony
The outlier. I can really see how that would be so sweet too. But it's been almost 100% spalted so far. But I like outliers too.. I'm leaning heavily towards the ash
Very nice choice of wood.would be an honor to own one of your Guitars. Talk about a show and tell to all my friends. Sweet for once in my life let me win.
Thats very humbling for me that you'd think so. Thank you! Good luck and stay tuned.. my dream is to be able to get my guitars into the hands of players.
What effect would teak wood have?
Funny you mention teak because it;s one of the options for one of the guitars. The effect of wood types on the tone of electric guitars are up for debate, but I think most would agree its very negligible. Now on feel, thats another matter, but I haven't used teak to be able to speak on it
I'm not good enough to record anything really but I'll say that so many people concentrate on the art form of a guitar. I build, I know. A guitar is a tool a functional piece art, but it must synch with its owner. Some times it takes a little while to meld with it and realize the guitar you have, regardless of price or color is just awesome.
There is something to be said for giving a guitar some time. I think it's a matter of getting past expectations and accepting the guitar for what it is. But sometimes, it's happened to me many times, I just never "bonded" with particular guitars, even when I really wanted to. It's a very personal and organic experience
When is the deadline to submit.
When the guitars are done.. so a while. You can still sign up and have time to submit music too
These are gonna be amazing
Thanks!

Very awesome idea dude 😊 love the ethos behind these builds and the inspiration. Look forward to seeing how these turn out. I love the idea behind the fire build the most.
Thanks! You know, I thought I'd hear more about the Fire, but it's been pretty evenly mixed. I really think its going to be sexy, sleek beast.
Hope I win!
Good Luck!
Cheers from Canada
Cheers! Such a beautiful country.. Good Luck
Just came from an Instagram ad. This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen from any independent guitar builder. Good luck to everyone! 🫶
Wowm Thats really cool of you to say. Thanks!
These are going to be cool
I'll do my best. Thanks!

@@randmockguitars4079 that's what I did! Thanks!
Interesting. As sommeone who has been playing for 47 years, my take on this is that I believe the neck is the most important part of the guitar. If you do not have a good playing, comfortable neck, you might as well not even have a guitar. I believe that once the neck was replaced on Thesius' guitar, and the neck was different, ie different shape, different radius, different frets, it was no longer the same guitar. With that being said, the 1st guitar looked the most suitable to my playing. The scale length, the pickup combo. The headless looks nice but having only a bridge pickup means less tones avalable to me, and I like to have a lot of tonal options. The ergo-horn sounds interesting. I stay away from baritones because as a lead player the frets are too far apart and I really have to stretch to play whay I would normally play on a regulaar scale guitar. But they all look interesting. I'm going to enter so thanks for the chance.
Interesting perspective. I think thats what is so interesting of the thought experiment. To me, after having customized so many guitars, I feel it's the same guitar even after everything has changed. But there are lots of prespectives and responses that have come as a response to it. Thank you for joining, I hope I get to hear your music!
Would love to win one of these guitars!
Good luck! I hope I get to hear your music
I'm excited
Me too. I've been working on this for so long.. I hope it lives up to your expectation
Wow! Thank you for this opportunity!!
It really is my pleasure. Thank you for your support
I am excited by your unique approach to guitar building and I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing the finished products!
Me too. Thanks!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with man. Love the videos. Keep it up. Hopefully I get lucky.
Good luck!
I would Love to have one to show to all my friends and convenience them to get one.
That would be awesome
I love the concept and your approach to the contest - never seen anyone set up a content this way
Thanks, I tried to put alot of thought into it. Appreciate it!
@@randmockguitars4079 It would;dn't be an easy choice to make between the four, there are elements of each that are super appealing - the earth's pickup combination, the fire's modern take on a headless, the clarity of wind or the baritone water
Looking forward to see them 👌🏼
same here lol
Came for the giveaway, stayed for the philosophy lesson 🤝 Honestly, the ship of theseus is my favourite thought experiments, awesome designs btw🤟
Really? How cool. Yeah its always fascinated me on a bunch of levels. Cool!
wow!
I notice the wall of guitars behind you have NO POINTY guitars =/ I just built my own RRV Bass Guitar because Jackson refused to, as a Bass player I am SICK of looking at 1953 regurgitated until the year 3000... I don't Need to WIN a guitar I can build my own = have a look at the uploaded video in my list if U R bored
The ship of Thesius as a guitar to open? Yessssssssss - so good. And elemental guitars....all of them are spectacular. The leviathan one made me go "ooooooooooh that is really cool" 😄 Looking forward to seeing these come into the world. Happy birthday to Jason 🎸
Thanks L. Yeah, I get a feeling about that one.. I think it's going to be really interesting
I like the idea of a baritone representing water. Looking forward to all the builds.
It seemed to fit in my mind.. glad I'm not alone in that. Thanks!
so excited, will defs be sending a track in
thanks brother
