      I couldn't agree more on the English patient. It had a great cast but what a terrible movie The only thing it's good for is when you have insomnia you can put it on and you're guaranteed to fall asleep. Uncle Sam sounds right up my alley I never heard of that I definitely have to check it out now hahaha. I found first contact was okay but I wasn't a fan of pretty much all of the next generation I thought they were all fairly weak so stacked against that first contact is amazing even though it's just a mediocre film in my opinion. The craft is a bit overrated and cheesy. I've never seen it until my wife recommended it. It was ok

    harry potter is stupid shit in harry potter almost everyone has magical powers and can use them at any time in LOTR only 4-5 people have magical powers and they almost never use them

    • @CR055FIRE
      @CR055FIRE 28 дней назад

      @@criticafterdark Yes, however, anything can be good if written and directed properly. In LOTR, the writer and director are smarter and more talented; It's clear they're aware the use of magical powers undermines the agency of the characters and the poignancy of the story (i.e. "if anything can happen, what's the point"). In order to justify the use of magic, they depict fantastical acts as an allegory for divine intervention. This helps rectify the concept of fantasy with peoples real world beliefs. Alluding to magic as being "transcendental" allows the audience to see the drama through, both, a physical and philosophical lens. A moral justification creates a sense of credibility the audience can deploy to excuse the impossible and maintain emotional investment. Since nobody knows what happens after death; appealing to divinity and existential fate will always remind the audience of God and mortality. This creates a real worry about ones own future, which, then, snowballs into a worry about the fate of the characters in the film.

    Agreed Watchmen is amazing. There is so much depth to it. It's so relevant in today's world and the ultimate version is the only way to watch it. The black freighter adds so much depth to the story. Everything about that movie is perfection. The only slight I'll give it is the Hallelujah sequence. That's the only song choice I didn't agree with. If you get a chance. Check out the HBO series it was really good too. It's different for sure but I thought it was a cool take on the continuation of the story and what they did with the Hooded Justice. I expected to hate it but it surprised me. You probably already know this but there is an animated version coming out soon. They did release a motion comic which is was great. My fave issue of the entire series is the issue which focuses just on Doctor Manhattan. The graphic novel itself had so much depth that you just can't translate it to a movie. Yet somehow Zack Snyder did Alan Moore's graphic novel justice.

    Thanks for the shout out brother!! Not an understatement to say that Ghostbusters is Jays life Hahhaa, I’ll send you the link of the episode we did, even though every episode we have has some kind of ghost busters reference in it! That’s so awesome it’s your daughters favorite or close to favorite movie of all time! I did see it in the theater when it first came out, showing my age for sure but it was such a great experience it’s hard to forget, literally rode in the back of an open pick up truck with my cousins. Seen it with my Grammie. We didn’t sleep the entire night after from both loving the movie and also scared shitless of the librarian ghost!! The all girl cast one I know seems like a black eye on the franchise and I never seen it cause I had no urge, I was old school and you weren’t going to fuck it up. I refused to watch for years. Then we started the podcast and it hit me it wasn’t fair for me to trash it without seeing it. We did a review but I can say I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would have. It’s not great but I didn’t despise it like I expected I would. I LOVED ghostbusters afterlife and I appreciated Frozen Empire. But anyway great episode!! Catch ya Saturday!!

    True story I agree the all female cast remake is absolute garbage but that being said the 4k on it is actually kind of cool. What they did with it is the movie is in widescreen right? But when they do special effects like the Slimer character the slime will shoot past the black bars and when they're firing their proton packs the laser beams will go outside of the black bars which creates this really cool effect still doesn't make the movie worth owning though hahaha but cool to watch it once. I'm glad to hear that Frozen Empire is actually pretty decent! I know it got some slack in the review department but from what I saw in the couple trailers they released it actually looked fun it just has one actor in it that I normally cannot stand something about him just greats on me so I hope he is in it with limited screen time hahaha I'll give you a hint as to who he is he showed up in eternals and Obi-Wan the TV series. Good to hear he was actually funny in it from your review

    I love 300. I know some people will argue it's not historically accurate but if you think about the movie it's all being recounted by one of his So already you have an unreliable narrator. If you think back to the movie Braveheart when William Wallace walks out into the battlefield he starts talking about how all these myths and legends started surrounding him including how tall he was and that he could shoot lightning bolts out of his ass. So I think what's happening in 300 is leonidas's lieutenant is trying to get the rest of the soldiers fired up. They are literally going into battle against one of the greatest armies of all time and for better or worse it's essentially a suicide mission. Most of these guys would be afraid. But if they're hearing stories about how Leonidas took on immortals who couldn't die, a guy with essentially chainsaw bow hands, and a king that was 20 ft tall and was able to make him bleed that's going to get the army fired up and ready to go into battle. So once you look at it from that lens all the historical inaccuracies don't matter the weirdness of some of the characters don't matter because it's all based on an unreliable narrator who is embellishing events to get the troops fired up. I know rise of an empire gets a lot of flack but I also think that's another incredible movie that does the impossible it serves as a prequel, and equal, and a sequel to 300 while showing a completely different aspect of the war by focusing on different mentalities and philosophies and a different form of combat in this case naval. Both of the 300 movies are absolutely amazing and I am so stoked to hear they're going to be making a TV series set within that universe I hope it's as good as both movies
