I'm interested in your thoughts now Luke, after doing the article many years ago on small tires, say 28x10.5 or slightly larger, have you changed your mind as to that being an ok bracket car? That's a long a weird question but years ago you did an article I think on small tires. I see many big block cars on 28 x 10.5 bracket racing in no electronics that seem to be consistent but I'm talking about a Mustang with all the bells and whistles rear end parts you can buy being competitive with a 347,351 or 355 a brake and glide. What do you think now since its been a lot of years? You don't see them much at the races but I have a feeling they could work good enough to make it go. It would be cheaper in and you could work it into being fast over time. We have a Mustang on a 29.5 x 10.5 that runs 6 ohs to teens and its really deadly consistent so I know that tire size will work on a Mustang. But that needs to be a mini tubbed where a 29 x 10.5 wouldn't. Lots of Mustangs out there cheap that guys can get into with out a lot of money and maybe be competitive right out of the box.

Hello my friend, I remember those good ole Jr. Dragster day with my daughter Makenna Patterson. We ran the Jr. for 13 years and we had our ups and downs. For the most part WE LOVED IT. She attended one of your driving schools at the Mountain. She said that you and her had alot in common and the thoughts of the JR. Dragster future of the sport. She had now advanced on to a..... Can you Guess what she is driving now??????? Vega my friend we have talked about your trusty vega and she is doing good in it. My friend the Jr. Dragster years not only taught her alot about driving and winning and losing but it taught me alot as the father and crew chief. It has taught us both responsibility about the sport and I have done it for years and even managed our local track for years. Thanks for the videos and most for the friendship as always its good to see you around the track . Take care, keep up the awesome work, and good luck to you and your son on this adventure. Be wishes to you and your family!

My cars are always built slow, works real good for me. My $6500. car embarrasses cars that cost 5 or 6 times more than my car and that is the part that turns my crank. Love your talks!

My opinion is either the fastest or slowest would be the most optimal as long as it can hot lap. I’ve had more success with a slower car with a tighter package

I had a scenario 15yrs ago i had a Sportsman/Street Eliminator car and had no place to race it. Could no longer run Street ET as they turned it into a beginners only class. I had free entry into our Pro ET class so i decided to run the Street car in Super Pro. Ran low 12's at the time with the class cutoff at the time was 12.99. So i footbraked my way to #1 qualifier for our bracket finals that year. One racer said i couldn't bring that down as #1 and i'm like why not i earned it! Did alright at the bracket finals too making it to the 3rd round in both the Race of Champions and main event even beating current Top Dragster World Champion Vince Musolino in the 1st round. I tell racers that the advantage i had was i got to race against 7 and 8 second cars so often that i could tell where they needed to by on the track in relation to me. Where as they most likely might only get to see me once or so. They weren't use to racing against something that slow and how they wanted to dial for it.

I was there at the beginning of Luke start- his father (Gary) came to my shop and ask me if I would build a junior for Luke, I said sure - Gary order a kit from Knapp- A couple of weeks went by Gary came back to the shop with a truck full of tubing and a body - Gary and I build a plywood table-the next week Gary brought Luke with him- Gary and I were friends from a hand shake and hello/ Luke is right behind Gary and said “what’s going on” - Luke wearing a bucket hat / t-shirt/ plaid shorts and van shoes- us trio became great friends- Luke was very humble then and now I can see, he still is - we all new Luke would be one of the greats and I see and hear, he is also a great parent- I’m very proud of you- geo

I couldn't agree more with your statement about the intimidation factor. It's real. When the gap is that large I think in general terms the slower car thinks they need to put down a great lap to turn on the win light. I also think if you are a 5.80 car and are more or less used to being on the faster side of things and you have to run something like your roadster it puts them in a position they aren't overly accustomed to. I've spent the majority of my racing career both in stock/super stock and even bracket racing being on the slower end of the spectrum. I've had moderate success for not racing all that much but if you aren't having a day where you feel 100% locked in it makes it that much tougher. But I love Matt's version that is exactly what I'm trying to put together now.

The problem is, at least for me, I like to be chased and speed and quickness doesn't have anything to do with it. Not saying that's correct for everyone but it is for me. What I believe he's seeing is intimidation by name recognition and the speed and quickness of the car has less to do with it than the name.

It's a lot easier to slow a fast car down than speed a slow car up. I'll take a faster car any day......

In my experience the roadsters get very finicky after you go faster than about 5.40. Not enough downforce, and they try to lift off the ground.
