    ~0:23:35 The Desolation (and elsewhere) will be brutal if you don't pull groups apart. The Elementals do lots of damage, and the Undead have hard rez. Giving a pass on Livia (EotN hero) and the Rit, though questionable under nostalgia rules.

    ~57:00 I maintain that this cutscene provides a hint to the player to switch Zhed from his default Water to Fire/burning for the next mission and region. I also think that this is a flaw in the game. Human players will have different weapon/armor sets and are encouraged to gear up heroes for specific lines. Switching runes/weapons on a hero is more of an ask.

      Oh interesting! Yeah he specifically said “fire is a better way to deal with you.” I wouldn’t have expected the dialogue to give a subtle clue about game strategy. I also suppose saying something like “ice” or “rocks” wouldn’t have the same weight of a threat as fire though 😂

    From a game design perspective, I find the Kourna region too similar from area to area in foes and appearance. Barbarous Shore is the big exception with the heavy Corsair population. The Jade Sea and Forest regions in Factions seem to be better differentiated.

The earlier proposed builds: Paragon Sogolon (Motivation Paragon): Earlier proposed build.... Song of Purification, Spear of Lightning, Spear of Redemption, Aria of Restoration, Ballad of Restoration, Hexbreaker Aria, Leader's Comfort, Signet of Return Notes: On revisit, noticed that Spear of Redemption (a solid 3a general use attack skill) is from EotN, not Nightfall, as is Holy Spear (4a). Replacement options aren't good since the adrenaline attacks mostly inflict a perhaps unwanted condition or are slow activation without other skills. Replaced with the very good but 7a Wild Throw. Song of Purification, Spear of Lightning, Wild Throw, Aria of Restoration, Ballad of Restoration, Hexbreaker Aria, Leader's Comfort, Signet of Return [Unnamed] (Command Paragon): Proposed build.... "Incoming!", Spear of Lightning, Wild Throw, "Stand Your Ground!", Anthem of Envy, Signet of Aggression, Leader's Comfort, Signet of Return Notes: I'm not a fan of "Incoming!", but others seem to love these party speed boosts, and it works as a general use elite. Wild Throw is 7a but removes stances. "Stand Your Ground!" is an S-Tier skill. Anthem of Envy offers energy management, will buff the henchman at a minimum, and buffs any other physical attackers and offensive spirits. Signet of Aggression is very underrated and will charge the adrenaline skills faster. As a second Paragon option, went for all damage and support. If there's a third, a condition focused build would be best.

    • @UberOfficer1
      @UberOfficer1 Месяц назад

      I think paragon’s lackluster damage output from the spear turned people off to it. But Paragon really shines when it leans into the party-wide support skills in the motivation skill line. One thing I’m never sure about is how the shouts affect minions and spirits.

    • @tarheel7406
      @tarheel7406 Месяц назад

      @@UberOfficer1 a) Look for chants affecting allies rather than party members. Spirits are considered allies. b) The spear atttack skills need an overhaul. More general use energy-based options, less reliance on deep wound, etc. After revisiting, I see that Spear of Redemption (and Holy Spear) are EotN not Nightfall, so I will need to revise the proposed henchmen builds.

    That was a display of major newbage. The Margonites are weaker to hexes. Norgu comes as Illusion, so that's the game suggesting. The mission requires Tahlkora, which suggests a Protection Monk (though I think I use Smiting hexes/damage on her here). It's your playthrough, and I can respect someone who just wants to experience the storyline and battle without having to think too hard. Nevertheless, I would be interested in seeing some more consideration put in your builds, hero selection/builds, and henchmen selection for each area/mission. Could be done off camera with a quick recap on.

    • @UberOfficer1
      @UberOfficer1 Месяц назад

      My consideration is entirely done from my own idea of what playstyle/ skills that I like or think are cool. I’m purposely not checking the wiki unless I absolutely have to. So I’m not power gaming with fully optimized builds designed to counter every enemy I come across. I had totally forgotten about this mission and admitted to my heroes’ builds being completely mismatched. 🤣

      @@UberOfficer1 Yeah, I thought hard on Wiki use. I decided by Nightfall, the Wiki would be detailed and current, so fair to use. Regardless, my intent wasn't to be critical, just offering some thoughts. In normal mode, I suspect bringing 2 party members for healing and/or protection should suffice as long as there's enough damage. Enough to suffice should satisfy the most casual player. I'm not even focusing on super tailored builds and henchmen selection. My focus here is the attentive player who wants to benefit from informed choices. (Hope that makes sense.)

Healing Burst, Healing Breeze, Orison of Healing, Signet of Rejuvenation, Remove Hex, Heaven's Delight, Divine Intervention, Resurrection Chant Notes: Her build is rather good outside of Divine Intervention and perhaps the staple Healing Breeze. She also continues the designers' history of Monk henchmen only investing in 2 lines. Healing Burst is S-Tier for spot and partywide healing. The hard rez is half range, but It's a Factions skill and acceptable. Since a staple, I'm keeping Healing Breeze even though any of Jamei's Gaze, Signet or Devotion, or Deny Hexes is arguably better for the Forest. This leaves dropping only Divine Intervention for a skill from Protection (Smiting being disabled due to Healing Burst). Going with the almost always good Mend Ailment. Lots of conditions in the Forest, can be used on self, and has the conditional healing, making the investment for a single skill worth it and making Danika very well-rounded. Healing Burst, Healing Breeze, Orison of Healing, Signet of Rejuvenation, Mend Ailment, Remove Hex, Heaven's Delight, Resurrection Chant Redemptor Karl (Protection Monk): Comes with.... Boon Signet, Aegis, Reversal of Fortune, Spirit Bond, Draw Conditions, Mend Ailment, Resurrection Chant Notes: Some henchmen available for the last two missions only have 7 skills to save a slot for a special skill for those missions. I prefer them to either get a skill replaced or get that special as a 9th skill, so I will propose full bars. There's also a lot of enchantment hate in the Forest, so Karl's build should not focus on enchantments that one wants/needs to last duration. Life Sheath is a great Factions elite in Protection, but Boon Signet is an interesting option. As usual, I don't like Aegis unless a lot of early battle blocking is needed and enchantments are safe. Guardian may be better, but also compared to Aegis, Shield Guardian is cheaper, casts/recharges faster, is a Factions skill, and looks more interesting. Reversal of Fortune is standard for Protection but not that good in normal mode. Nevertheless, something to spam, trigger the elite, and cover more important enchantments. Since I put Mend Ailment on Danika as well, dropping Draw Conditions though I like the concept. To fill out bar added the standard Remove Hex. Considered investing in Healing for Orison, Ethereal Light, Gift of Health, Jamei's Gaze, or Signet of Rejuvenation; however, decided to go with Signet of Devotion from Divine Favor for the energy management and general use since Spirit Bond is so expensive. Boon Signet, Shield Guardian, Reversal of Fortune, Spirit Bond, Signet of Devotion, Mend Ailment, Remove Hex, Resurrection Chant [Note that (per Wiki) the Monk henchman Taya from Shing Jea doesn't appear elsewhere except Divine Path. This would make her the sole henchmen from the Island available to be used elsewhere, perhaps as a Smiting Monk. As a "generic" Canthan, perhaps available in all outposts in the Forest and Sea.]

      @@UberOfficer1 First, I edited the original comment to cleanup some. Second, the Smiting line needs lots of work. Investing in Divine Favor is rather useless unless spamming Reversal of Damage or something from another Monk line. Perhaps replace the healing with scaled aoe holy damage around target of Smiting spells. Third, as for Nightfall, in a hex friendly area try using Defender's Zeal and spreading Scourge Enchantment/Healing and other hexes from a secondary profession. A pressure tactic, but I'm fine with that.

      @@UberOfficer1 a) I wouldn't make burning an inherent effect. Some PvE foes have lots of condition mitigation with bonus effects. Perhaps an enchantment that triggers burning similar to Zealot's Fire. b) Trying to get a handle on your suggested "bouncing effect". For me Smite Condition and/or Smite Hex (EotN and core respectively) are staples on a Smiting hero build. They already do "in the area" holy damage and have a 7s and 12s recharge (respectively). I can see perhaps removing 3 conditions/hexes on target, 2 from a random adjacent ally, and 1 from a random nearby ally? The current holy damage on each bounce would be too strong, especially with those recharge times. Maybe the Divine Favor effect could trigger for each bounce.

    Coming full circle on the henchmen review. The game only offers 10 henchmen, the 5 from Proph (e.g. Mhenlo) and 5 that follow the player from Istan. I'll bring the rest over from Istan as well. The earlier proposed builds: Elementalist Cynn (Fire Elementalist): Earlier proposed build.... Aura of Restoration, Fire Attunement, Searing Flames, Glowing Gaze, Ebon Hawk, Glowstone, Glyph of Lesser Energy, Rez Signet Herta (Earth Elementalist): Earlier proposed build.... Aura of Restoration, Earth Attunement, Ebon Hawk, Glowstone, Stone Daggers. Enervating Charge, Blinding Flash, Rez Signet [Unnamed] (Air Elementalst): Proposed build.... Aura of Restoration, Air Attunement, Invoke Lighting, Lightning Strike, Chilling Winds, Ice Spikes, Ice Spear, Rez Signet Notes: All of the existing and new proposed henchmen would be available starting from Consulate Docks or perhaps the new starting in each new region. Acolyte Souse is an optional Elementalist hero in Istan, Zhed Shadowhood is a required hero in Kourna, and Vekk is required in EotN; however, there was a 3 hero max cap, so options would still be needed for the original game, "nostalgia rules" playthroughs, etc. Moreover, new players could experiment with different henchmen to see how those builds work. Zhed comes as Water, so Air is the obvious choice, but going with damage and hexes to be an alternative to the conditions provided by Cynn and Herta (unless those builds are revisited). Invoke Lighting is an S-Tier Nightfall elite, and Lighting Strike is buffed from the overcast. Chilling Winds is a Nightfall skill and synergies well with Ice Spikes. Ice Spear is buffed by the overcast and provides something to spam.

      I have about as little experience with elementalist as I do dervish.(even though I think it’s a cool profession) So I’m pretty clueless about what goes into making a good ele build. It’s interesting to know what you consider high-tier elementalist skills. Ele seems to have a lot of things to consider (overcast, energy management, “procs”, etc.) when developing a good skill bar and mixing 2 elements basically doubles the complication.

      @@UberOfficer1 Elementalist is one of my least favorites to play among my mains, but I'd guess that the builds I use are the most diverse. You hit on some things that make it more diverse: damage type, conditions or hexes, energy management, overcast or not, etc. On an all hero team, I will consider synergies across all of the builds. For instance, weakness from a Necromancer that buffs a skill on a Elementalist or Warrior. For henchmen and my own bar, I prefer those builds to be more self-contained. Any additional synergies are a bonus. To make Elementalists more useful in later game, each line should have 1 or 2 themed conditions and the Shock Arrow, etc. series of skills should trigger the energy gain if the foes either has a themed condition or a hex from that line: Air - Cracked armor and blind Earth - Weakness and cripple Fire - Burning Water - Cracked armor All skills are situational to some degree, but I'd consider the following Elementalist elites as S-Tier: Invoke Lightning (Air) - Straight up nearby aoe damage for 10e every 6s with mild 5 overcast. Thunderclap (Air) - Adjacent aoe damage that also inflicts 2 non-fleshy conditions (cracked armor and weakness) and rupts for 10e every 8s. Sandstorm and Unsteady Ground (Earth) - Derivatives of the same basic skill that allows for the best choice for the task. Savannah Heat (Fire) - Raw nearby aoe fire damage for only 5e. (Using Searing Flames is limited by energy management.) Shatterstone (Water) - Spike and nearby aoe cold damage that hits even if the hex is removed early. Ward Against Harm (Water) - Anti-nuke for the backline.

In PvE, ~half the time I'm running conditions, so Air, Earth and Fire are viable with cracked armor. Water is hexed based, so much weaker on top of its more expensive and longer cast time skills. Hero review project: Norgu Norgu (Illusion Hex Mesmer): Comes with.... Mantra of Persistence, Clumsiness, Conjure Phantasm, Mistrust, Ether Feast, Rez Signet Notes: I keep and rune Norgu for Illusion since Odurra is a Domination Mesmer henchman and Gwen comes later as Domination in EotN. I also believe that the game is suggesting Illusion in Vabbi due to lots of physicals, high armor, condition mitigation, etc. Mantra of Persistence is really an energy management stance; however, it isn't "use and forget" the rest of the battle since its duration only lasts close to its recharge. I prefer putting such skills to the left of the bar, even if it doesn't matter to the AI. Misfit doesn't fit this build, as it's a 4th line. I suspect it was added just to include a a Nightfall skill and unlock for the player if not already. In my view, most of the Nightfall non-elite Mesmer skills are either weak or situational, so went very basic with all core.
