Carburetor Rebuild VLOG - got recognized, carb float adjustment & overcame personal dilemma
Another day, another motovlog, this time rebuilding my motorcycle carburetor on my harley davidson sportster … well.. partially. I had issues with it leaking and harsh starts and my motorcycle was running lean. I finally rolled up my sleeves and put these issues to rest. Cleaned it, adjusted the float, rebuild it, and adjusted the air fuel mixture. Let me know if you liked this style of vlog, I tried to edit it a bit differently than normal, but nonetheless, it was very fun to film.
I forgot to mention this but my air fuel adjustment I set it at 2.5 turns.

7 Common Overlooked Motorcycle Maintenance Checks
Very good MD. There is one thing I would like to add, if I may. I suggest resisting the urge to start it up if you are not going to ride it. By revving it up in your garage, you are just creating more water vapor to contaminate the oil. The pistons will be very hot and the rest of the engine will still be cold.
Dude, Bro, Homie, I’ll stick with my 05 Road King 88 Twin Cam . Removed the cam tensioner shoes and went with gear drive and a Stage 2 Tune . I’m soooo happy . I don’t want an electronically complicated motorcycle . Nice job on your video 🤙🏻
Your Harley is now running perfectly again, and there is nothing you can really improve. You know your motorcycle better, what is good and what is bad. But do you also have experience with a Harley carburetor from the manufacturer Edelbrock? What do you say about the Küryakyn Hypercharger?
I met a guy on the ferry to orcas island that was telling me about sturges in the 80s and there was a flat bed trailer and 50 ladies on it. They had a beaver eating contest 😂
Dont most of the dudes in biker clubs sleep with each others wives😂😂
Is he riding back to his Harley brother lover 😂😂
Sometimes you just gotta think about a task for a while to get your head around it. Look over the book a couple times, make sure you have the right tools and parts, then it seems easy.
What in the red neck cousin fkr is going on here
This is wicked generation. Repent Yahusha is coming
Don't feel bad about putting things off. It's very common for people feeling stressed or overwhelmed with something, to mentally shut down when facing anything that reminds them of it. So if your final time at Harley got hard, it would make sense going back to turning wrenches could cause that mental freeze up!
That’s great! You two look good together. Best wishes!👌
You need more chairs.
Haven't you heard? The cobbler's kids have no shoes. A lot of people don't want to do for a living, at home. ❤💛❤
Nobody's got it all together. Welcome to the human race.
I'm also a big fan of laying out the screws so they go back in the same hole that they were in. Don't kick yourself too hard for letting things go, happens to everyone sooner or later. I rode my 05 with carb problems for 5 years figuring it was just a dog because it was a little 883. It wasn't until I got my 02 883C that I figured out how they were supposed to run, and got into the carb and found out not only was the manifold gasket broken, but that someone had put a dynajet kit in my 05 and had it all screwed up. I replaced everything the previous owner screwed up and now it runs better than the 02. Save the old manifold gasket, letting it sit out in the sun for a couple days will straighten it out enough to use for a backup in case the new one fails. I noticed it looks like you still have the factory vacuum operated petcock on your tank. They have a vacuum diaphragm that shuts off fuel flow when the engine isn't running, but the vacuum diaphragm in those have a habit of failing at the worst possible time. Best case scenario it sticks open and you just have a vacuum leak. Worst case it doesn't open all the way, or at all, resulting in reduced or no fuel flow even when the handle is on. And the easiest way to get at the carb when doing work on a Rubbermount Sportster is to take off the tank first. 2 bolts, 2 or 3 lines (fuel, vent, and if you still have the factory petcock a vacuum line to run it), and the tank is out of the way in about 2 minutes. Also makes it easier to see what you're doing when reinstalling the carb so you don't crimp the manifold rubber, and to check the condition of various lines and wires that can't be normally seen.
This was the dumbest shi+ I have ever seen.
Love that bike I have the identical one to it
I have the Harley-Davidson Sportster shop manual but I prefer to use the Sportster Cyclepedia shop manual because it’s more user friendly and it has step by step pictured instructions.
There is no better feeling than having your bike (or 6) running 100%. Tires, fluids, batteries. Sleep well
Cool candid vid, fun watch
God bless Ukraine
Take care of it before it matters. Nothing sucks more than spending your entire ride hoping you'll make it home.
Howdy 🤠 I’m unsure if I mentioned it, but thank you for these videos. You help me learn so much about working on stuff on my bike, and that is so super helpful 😊 I’m looking at doing tires & primary before carb tho. But now I know a manual to get me through carb rebuild, lol. And I appreciate how detailed & informative your videos are about this stuff. It helps me in learning more Also, congrats on the fan recognition, I feel as you become more famous that may happen more, & glad it’s all turning out well. And looking forward to your channel growing more. As for the cross threaded spark plug, I only know of one person that did, & it required tearing down heads of a V8 to rethread it . . . I am curious about a couple of things; 1st: Are ya gonna show doing work on Slavs’s bike? 2nd: I been looking at air filter to replace mine (So it stops hitting my knee, tall rider problems) I wonder what your thoughts are on the heads breather bolts? As I noticed TC Bros has alt method for it, & Trask has those tubes
I had to laugh a little when I was the Carburetor said Harley Davidson on it. You know HD does not make Carburetors nor do they make Spark Plugs. The Plugs they sell that say Harley Davidson on them obviously are Champions. Champions suck get some NGK Spark Plugs Copper Core or upgrade to a Platinum grade. I would guess the Diaphragm is for an accelerator pump. You bike will run like crap with a vacuum leak. The gas leak is a risk of fire. I saw a guy who burned up his Brand New Harley. He filled it full of gas than drove it across the street to a Harley Dealer .. Where gas leaked out the fill cap ect and the bike caught on fire and was totaled. The guy ran in circles a bit before some HD Workes came out with some hefty fire extinguishers. I think if the guy would have thought fast.. started yelling fire and ran into the dealership and grabbed an extinguisher quickly he could have saved his bike. Normally I fill my tank then ride a few miles before parking. If I don't plan to burn a little gas off from the top of the tank I don't fill it completely. On a Hot summer Day I stopped to Fill my Buell planning to continue down the road. Then I saw an Ace Hardware Store across the Street. I needed a bolt, nut washer ect since my kickstand had recently fallen off the bike. Parking my Buell in the Hot Sun with a full tank of gas was a bit of a concern for me. When I came out of the store. I could see gasoline pouring onto the pavement. The Buell gas cap is 100% sealed so it can't leak. Instead of gasoline leaking all of the motor and starting a Fire like Harley Davidsons do, My Buell had a vent tube that ran back and dumped the gas on the ground below the front of the swing Arm. Buell is so much a Superior bike over Harleys that it's not even funny. HD really shot themselves in the foot yet again when they spent $116 Million to shut down the new Buell Factory in East Troy WI.
It's always cool to meet subscribers. Don't think I'll ever get used to it. Certainly is encouraging to continue to make videos.
I like the stream of consciousness in your vlogs. They're my favorite type of video.
Excellent carb cleaning video and life coaching! You have a wonderful aura about you and I look forward to your future episodes. Take care
Lets talk about those jets if you freeze frame this video at 14:35 you see the jet intakes with the small brass idle jet intake dead center, the main jet intake slightly above and to the right (protruding) don't worry about the bigger brass ring above which is for the float valve. 90% of your problems will be that center piece. It runs the bike on idle. It is the smallest tube and thus the first to clog from gasoline issues. You see this when it is a B---- to start but runs fine if you get it going or when you have to choke the bike too often. This means that idle jet is clogged or partial clogged. If she dogs often usually when cold but runs okay warm that is the main jet partially clogged. The way it typically goes down is 1) cheap ethanol gas left in the bike for months. These jets breathe 100% of the time and thus will interchange gasoline for water when humidity is 95% or above (rain/dew) and that will fill the tanks and carbs with water, water will cause rust, dust trapping, algae, fungus, all bad stuff for a carb. 2) rust in the bowl and jets. This means cheap ethanol was left too long in the tank which exchanged that into water and rusted the inside of the tank. This is why bikes used often run carbs for a decade with no issue but carbs left unused have so many issues. Some easy help is avoid ethanol fuel if yuo don't ride often and shut off you fuel switch first and run the carb dry before dismounting.
This is ridiculous is what this shit is....
Good job, I cant believe you didn't clean the jets. That was a really clean bowl. I would always change that rubber intake as they bake out from heat. I would always at least squirt cleaner in the jets or pull them ( at 10:47 or 14:08 ) you can see them and that is 90% of problems are. Even that float pin looked pristine. At 14:29 "I cleaned in there" I hope that meant some carb cleaner was sprayed in the jets At 14:33 the small brass at center and the protruding brass slight off center up and to the right are the jet intakes. Usually you want to unscrew them and clean them with carb cleaner. Nice job.
also doesnt hurt to change intake seals while its staring right at ya . make sure diafram and slider work properly and needle isnt damaged your plugs looked very lean very hot your intake carb to manifold leaked but also your float was set pretty low also from the angle i seen ride it around 0 say 50 miles pull them plugs make sure your not to lean or to rich 1 is just about as bad as the other id say that float was adjusted by someone that shouldnt be lol.might of just been quick adjust for overflow your float could be bad also doesnt hurt to weigh them . If all possible my therie is if ya aint got time to do it right the first time how the hell ya gonna have time again? 🍺
You push the bike into the street so they dont hear it he failed
Great job :)
the intake leak could have been the cause of your lean looking plugs.
I retired from automotive repair. I felt the same way. I had the tools, but I didn't even want to replace brakes . I bought my sporty and the feeling returned. I just had to keep the bike running. 😀 Sometimes, you just need a break.
The best part about a Sportster is that riding is only part of the fun. The only part of wrenching on them that I dislike is fixing what previous owners have screwed up.
I have never watched your channel before. I am assuming from what you said you worked for Harley? But it is so refreshing to hear a woman fixing a bike without any airyfairy crap going on. If you have had a hard time that has given you a little bit of trauma, then what you are calling laziness is most likely procrastination. This happens when you have trauma. Google PTSD. It could be anything that triggered it if you think you may have it after googling the symptoms. Anyway, it's an absolute pleasure to watch your vlog. I'll be looking forward to watching more. Stay true to yourself, and stay upright.
This is way the rest of the world think americans are dmb....
Sportsters are awesome. Moto Fiance's English is great, like really great. Fantastic interview! Good for you two!
Thoroughly enjoyed the interview, and I thought Slava's english was good. Thanks for sharing.
I'll never forget my experience at the H-D dealer in Ocean City, MD (since closed). I test rode a sporty and on start-up, it had a Fuel Injection warning light. They wheel it back, do a thing, and then bring it back out. Did my ride and when I got back, the salesguy asked what I think. Riding a Vulcan 500 at the time, I said, "It's heavier than my current bike, has no cornering clearance, and doesn't really give me anything over my Vulcan." He then tells me, "That may be true, but anywhere you go on this bike (the Sporty), you'll be accepted." I could barely keep a straight face. Years later, I bought and sold a Dyna, and while it was a lot of fun, I just never enjoyed it as much as the sport nakeds and sport tourers. To each their own! Really enjoy your content.
Dasha, 90% of your subscribers are men. Men watch your channel to fantasize. They don’t want to see your boyfriend. Just saying.
When you talked about "unpleasant customers" it took me back many moons when I was service manager at an H-D dealer. I fired more customers than mechanics. A quick example: a guy comes in needing some kind of repair. Never been at our shop before. After explaining what he needed he said "there better not be a scratch on it". I said "we are not doing this job. please never come back". He will never be satisfied. Another customer fired.
WTF
The older you become, you'll appreciate more and more just how serious life really is and how much shorter it is becoming with the passing of each year. You'll reminisce more and cherish each moment you're alive.
ride year round....I do..full face helmet, good leathers, heated gloves...as long as it's dry,I ride..love it..hot or cold..just not wet..I can handle bike but can not see me at redlight and cager sliding over me because they don't slow down on wet roads...they're bad enough about not paying attention on dry roads.
Your English is very much better than my Russian. Thank God You are off the ships now. Hooyah
Guten Afton 🤠 Imagine growing up with European culture in US, lol. It puts interesting perspective because while ya know US culture, it’s far too easy to connect with people of other countries, lol. That being said, it’s interesting hearing as usual from other countries, and from what I know, sport bikes are super common in EU, and that’s from also Germans & Dutch. Although a buddy of mine from Brazil is big into HD as well, he’s now riding a full TC touring model, & he’s the one who dragged me to HD dealer, lol. (Plan was to get an Indian Springfield) For you & your channel, I do use your channel to recommend to any women interested in riding, as I feel it’s good perspective. And I want more riding buddies, lol. As for dating, & such, as ya know I followed Doodle for long time. And I also seen HerTwoWheels, & her husband’s channel. (Lately been watching more of his because I like the builds, which lead me to watching your channel) And it’s great seeing couples share an interest, which keeps y’all connected, & imho that helps in keeping relationship lasting longer. As for me, I’m screwed because I grew up around Detroit Muscle, & my interest in vehicles matches no one’s out there, lol. Then again, I asked my friends for help in dating, & gotten less than no aide, lol.
raw sound
If this were the 1990s, Dasha would've made a comic book series called "Motorcycles and Art."
Fact i ride push bike very very very fast dangerously fast weather permitting
That was pleasant.
