The Army of Italy is in crisis. Outnumbered three to two, pinned down at Mantua, and two hundred miles from France, General Napoleon Bonaparte can only brace for the coming offensive by a new Austrian commander determined to reverse his country’s recent defeats. But Bonaparte’s desperate situation is about to be transformed into one of his most brilliant triumphs.

    I love these sorts of videos! They really help to supplement books (whose maps are less pretty and far more confusing). I think this video is better than any book I’ve read so far that covers this! So detailed! I love it! I wish you were still doing these!

    7:25 just realized this hypothetical scenario kind of looks identical to what Napoleon did to the Austrians at Ulm. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 There is a reality not to far from our own where historians view Wurmser as a genius for encircling the French in northern italy 😅

    0:37 I think it's fair to say the directory were quite competent administrators. So I'd argue that statement. They weren't necessarily "good" administrators. They were competent people who were ultimately primarily looking out for themselves - keeping the ship of France afloat was a part of that and, and so they made sure to keep it afloat with their competence. But as soon as that bar was reached the priorities changed. They're hardly a leadership body that anybody want or should rally behind as the alternative is terrible... Which is was...

    Honestly this is better than Epic History version. This is more complex and show how desperate situation was. I prefer this video over Epic History TV.

    The one thing I say is a massive problem is the quality at which the voice is speaking the information, it can put off people from watching a video (one suggestion is to record yourself under a blanket)
