This is great, and i absolutely love Tim, but the "Awesome Version" elsewhere on RUclips really is much much better.
To be honest this song made me want to tast a Marmite and last year my son brought it from UK and I finally did. 🙂
Feed, root, sleep......wombats, eat roots and leaves...😅
Cooking, balsa wood and glue Melding them together To make Modern furniture
My biggest flex is that I saw this live and then he transitioned into white wine
I already came across this video in 2008 and I immediately saw how brilliant he is. I'm glad this video is still online!
i have no idea where i heard this song or why it has been playing in my head this last week but here we are
Every reactor seems to have found Tim Minchin in the last few weeks. About bloody time.
Who here in 2023? ❤
I’m watching in August 2024. Love Tim ❤️❤️❤️❤️
დერი ნევა ქემ თუ მა ბოლ გემს, ვეა იუ დერი... გენიოსი. 7:59
best version
I came here for nostalgia after listening to Tim's newest song "Airplane" (for which he released a video today on his official channel). It's amazing how this Tim Minchin classic simultaneously sounds so similar and yet so drastically different from Tim's contemporary songs.
Please stop talking
06 was the last year for my mom. My daughter was also married in 06. There’s good and bad in every year! Love Tim’s songs!!!
Sorry for your loss, I hope the years have been kinder to you since ❤
Bo is 10,00 times better.
Mid 2021 and still just as funny!
This is the best version of this song 🎧
Gonna go ahead and give this one a nudge after 10 years. This is my favourite rendition, and needs more recognition. So much energy and intimacy
i agree, this is the first one i remember seeing! the ORIGINAL!
I saw the other one and in my opinion, the audience was more active and made him more energetic. Both are good. The best thing about this one is at 8:55
This is my favourite version too!
@@germanlara1664rewatch the "awesome version", he does the same thing with his foot
I'm a little disturbed by how much I relate to this song (such a good song though)
Fucking genius.
Awwwww😊💙
Tim has such a gift for perfectly balancing comedic and sentimental so neither one allows you to forget what he's trying to say.
I love this x
are you sure that’s tim’s voice
2019 :'(
This is so Rich Fulcher singing!
Sorry about your grandma. For us in the US, 2017 was a terrible year....
Fucking hell, this is 11 years old. And this video has been up for 10 years. Assuming it'll still be up in another 10 I'll reply to my message and marvel at how it's been 21 years since this song was written.
Damn it's already been 3 years
@@moom2k829damn, another
I can have a dank side
you can really see how dumbed down his newer mass market stuff is
MIT doesn't have a Med School... oops
love Tim!! lyrical genius!!
Why does Tim imagine sloths as speaking with the accents of Jewish New Yorkers?
I'm guessing it is similar to Sid the Sloth from Ice Age...if not, then that is a great question.
2016 was just a fucking mess.
This is honestly an amazing description of what being in love is like.
I'm still listening to this song ten years on, it's brilliant. I'll tell you what, I'll still be listening to it in '064 too
Still listening to it?
What was ‘06 for? What defines it as a special one? Was it particularly long? Was it especially fun? What was ‘06 for? Did it treat us any differently? Were the things that happened really All that extraordinary? This year was just like any other year The war was just the same old silly war Like beer just tastes like any other beer It's the same as the last year and the year before So let's move on You can't lament these fickle days Just close your eyes and drink champagne And toss this washed up year away A year is like a library book It's only ours on loan It's just another year flown It's just another year blown What was ‘06 for? Let's look at it realistically Its only asset's recency What did it actually mean to me? I guess I had a pretty good year I bought a leather sofa, which was a dream of mine And it only cost four hundred quid It's amazing all the savings you can make online And I've been sticking to low glycemic foods With the aim of trying to stay in shape And it's also been good for my moods So I don't snap at my wife when she's running late These things may seem petty on a global scale I could live in Lebanon or Pakistan But recently I had to do a tour in Wales So suffering is something that I understand And any New Year's guilt Any empathy we feel Will be neatly overcome With a shandy and a meal If there's one thing we can count on It's our comforting amnesia ‘06 was was bloody Africa '05 was Indonesia But the Tsunami of immediacy Washed away the flood of grief And revealed a layer of naïve optimism underneath So let's move on You can't lament these fickle days Just close your eyes and drink champagne And toss this washed up year away A year is like a guinea pig It's cuter when it's gone It's just another year flown It's just another year blown And there'll always be another But not for my Grandmother For her there won't be any more For ‘06 was the last year for my nana What was ‘06 for? Is it time we all just moved along? So, my paternal granny's gone I've still got another one What was ‘06 for? Is it just another year flown? Is it just me or has this year flown? You turn your back and the damn thing's gone Time flies when you're having fun So let's move on You can't lament these fickle days Just close your eyes and drink champagne And toss this washed up year away A year is like an elephant You're not allowed to take one home It's just another year flown It's just another year blown A year is like virginity You only miss it once it's gone It's just another year flown It's just another year blown Should all of us be getting going? Should all of you be heading home?
This may be my favourite Minchin song yet - a classic stand-up situation and really lifts up the self-esteem and self-estimation!
What I learned from this is that Sid from ice age and Mort from family guy realy sound alike....
This is Minchin singing? He sounds exactly like Cosmo Jarvis
that chorus is so fucking catchy.
I have no idea who Mark Watson may be, but I think this song would have been much better had Tim been allowed to sing this song, rather than letting this wanker have at it. He has the kind of hypnotic sound that becomes instantly addictive.
+Susan Sisson Hi! Mark Watson wrote the song I believe and it's Tim singing it :) Hope this helps
Lmao Tim's voice is just that versatile
Mark Watson is lovely, but this definitely wasn't him singing. This is Tim's singing and songwriting, as a regular guest spot on Mark's radio show.
Damn you Stoner Sloth!
+Nonofya Bidnez HAHAHAHAHAH! That... Is... The greatest comment EVER! I didn't even have that thought but omg that's fucking incredible!
Hey, dinosaurs are fucking cool!
Ross, is that you?
This is actually a really emotional song
I think of this song at this time of every year
Every song starts with This is a song about x iv called it x or in brackets y
Felix Hill l thought that's just the three Greed, Lust and Prejudice Regardless it's funny every time
Ivan Cherganski Hes done it with a few, and yes i do think its funny every time.
+Felix Hill Don't forget most of these songs were performed with different audiences, so if he throws one in at every concert it's fine! And if you and I think the joke's a bit stale, well Mr Minchin doesn't give a shit because we didn't pay a cent for this content! :P
+Kristernziener Well. That one isn't really correct. After all, a massive ammount of his songs have that. But I don't care I love it! Heheh.
+Felix Hill This is a reply to your comment. I've called it; "Reply" Or, in brackets; "Slightly pointless retort"
1:52 with the words, ''i just like the smell of your hair'', sounds like the same chords at a certain point in ''The song for Phil Daoust'' :D great song! i love all the work of Mr. Minchin, i'm probably one of the only Belgian people that knows his stuff... if there are other Belgians liking this, leave a comment and share with your friends!!!
+Davy T Does holland count? it's close ;)
+Kayne Buitenhuis Nederlands of Vlaams?
Nederlands Esmée Jackson
I'm part of the teenage market smart appeals to me
Is it just me or does he seem a bit fed-up with this song in this version with the way he skips through the parts he did in the other previous versions.... like with a 'lets just get this over with' type of attitude, you know what I'm talking about
You know, I was just thinking the same thing. He actually stepped up the tempo this time. Don't get me wrong. I still love him to death. But I think he's way too intelligent to be satisfied with a regular diet of the same thing. What I can't seem to get ahold of though is the date on this upload. Its 2007. What has he been doing for the last 8 years?.
Ahah yeah looks like it .. I think he's been preoccupied with his Matilda musical thing, other than that I have no clew. I bought tickets for his show here in sydney in feb 2015 YEAAAAYYYYY TIM MINCHIN Yeaaayyy.
Toogit 5 Never too late for Tim Minchin Ahah.. You're right actually, this was one of his first tours "So live (2007)" and the version I had in my head at the time was the "Ready for This?" version, which was 2009. idk why I assumed this was the more recent version, like he even looks a bit younger here. But anyway.. (P.s. The show in 2015 was brilliant, thanks for asking.. And Senpai noticed me YEAY he pointed at me and asked if I was Mick Jagger AHAH - it was dark and I had long hair and a fancy coat so)
He is the BEST!!! What a GENIUS!!!!
